Newsletter Friday, 07 September 2018 From the Principal s Desk NATIONAL TEACHER AIDE DAY Today is National Teacher Aide Day. A big thank you to all of our wonderful teacher aides who support teachers and students with learning. We really appreciate everything you do and how you connect with the children across the school. Blair has a great group of teacher aides and we are lucky to have your service. PREP 2019 INFORMATION EVENING An information evening for parents with children enrolling in Prep in 2019 will be held in the Prep Building at 6:00pm on Wednesday, 19 September. Whether you intend to enrol or are seeking further information about enrolment you are welcome to attend. We will share general information about the school and specific information about Prep. Please take advantage of speaking to staff about your queries or concerns. It is really important to let staff know if your child has any specific needs in order to allow staff to prepare ahead to ensure the transition to Prep goes well. Transition statements from early childhood/kindy providers are essential for our staff to know more about your child. Parents must provide permission to early childhood/kindy centres, via the appropriate form, for them to send the transition statements to the intended Prep school. I believe these permission forms can be requested at the centres your child is currently attending. Parents then also provide the form directly to the school. From the Principal s Desk continued... SWIMMING Swimming for Prep - Year 3 will begin next term starting Wednesday, 24 October. Parent letters will be sent out next week explaining the requirements for the swimming program. The overall cost is supported through grant funding and the Blair State School P&C. A parent contribution of $25 is required to cover the total cost of the program, however is substantially less than private swimming lessons. Payment will be required by Tuesday, 23 October. Media reports indicate that in coming years the Queensland Government may provide funding for swimming programs in all schools. If this occurs then the cost to the school community will be reduced. CLASSES 2019 Parents with any special requests for classes in 2019 are asked to contact admin via phone or email. We cannot promise that we can meet all requests, but we will try our hardest to accommodate the majority of requests received where possible. As I have said in previous years, arranging classes is one of the most complicated processes and involves multiple levels of complexity. Consideration has to be given to what is best educationally and emotionally for all children. We do not take this process lightly and it is impossible to make everyone happy. I have also told the story many times where two friends may make opposing requests. One parent wants the children together in the same class and the other wants the children separated. This is a no-win situation for us as someone will be disappointed. Neither parent wants to tell the other of their choice as they do not want to ruin the friendship. So whatever outcome eventuates, be considerate and avoid an embarrassing situation. Additionally, if parents know they will not be with us in 2019, please contact admin as class numbers will be tight and this will help us better plan for the new classes next year. If you are aware of families moving into the Blair catchment who intend on enrolling students at Blair, please ask them to contact us so places can be made available in classes for 2019. STAFFING Miss Stokes will be on long service leave for three school weeks. She will return for duties in Week 2 Term 4. We wish her a safe and happy break during her travels. Peter Lund Principal
