Travelers Rest High School ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME SELECTION COMMITTEE BY-LAWS & GUIDELINES Article I. Name Section 1.01 Name The name of this organization shall be called the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, hereinafter referred to as the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Article II. Purpose Section 2.01 Specific Purpose The Specific purpose of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee is to nominate and review the nominations presented each year and to select members for induction into the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Hall of Fame and to present these nominations to the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration for approval. Section 2.02 General Purpose The General purpose of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee is to work with the Athletic Dept., Administration and Athletic Booster Club to recognize and honor outstanding athletes, coaches, significant contributors, volunteers, and other individuals who have contributed significantly to the athletic program. Article III. Basic Policies Section 3.01 The following are basic policies of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee: (a) The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be noncommercial, nonsectarian, and nonpartisan. (b) The name of the organization or the names of any members in their official capacities shall not be used to endorse or promote a commercial concern or in connection with any partisan interest or for any purpose not appropriately related to the promotion of the purpose of the organization. (c) The organization shall not enter into membership with other organizations except with the approval of the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration, but may cooperate with other organizations and agencies concerned with the general purpose. (d) The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall not directly or indirectly participate or intervene in anyway in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office.

Article IV. Membership Section 4.01 Eligibility (a) Membership on the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be approved by the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration. (b) Membership shall be made available without regard to race, color, creed, or national origin. (c) The committee shall consist of five (5) community members, with the chairperson appointed by the Athletic Dept. and Administration. The chairperson will then select the other four (4) members subject to approval as stated above. Section 4.02 Term of Membership Membership shall be for a term of one year. Section 4.03 Ex Officio Membership The Travelers Rest High School Principal, Athletic Director and Asst. Athletic Director, shall be exofficio members of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee and must approve all nominations presented by the Committee. Section 4.04 Status of Membership Membership on the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be personal, and shall not survive the death of an individual member, and may not be transferred by any means. Section 4.05 Dues Membership dues are not mandatory or required to be a member of this committee. Article V. Officers and Their Selection Section 5.01 Eligibility The privilege of holding office shall be limited to members of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Section 5.02 Officers (a) There shall be two (2) officers on the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. One chairperson and one vice chairperson. (b) The chairperson is selected by the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration. The chairperson will then select a vice-chairperson to serve in his absence if necessary.

Section 5.03 Term of Office Officers shall be elected to serve for a term of one (1) year, or until successors have been selected. Article VI. Duties of Officers Section 6.01 Chairperson The chairperson shall: (a) Preside at all meetings of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee. (b) Appoint the vice-chairperson. (c) Coordinate the work of the committee in order that the purposes of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee may be promoted. (d) Keep records of meetings and the work of the committee. Section 6.02 Vice-Chairperson The vice-chairperson shall: (a) Act as aide to the chairperson and shall perform the duties of the chairperson in the absence or inability of that officer to act. (b) Have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the chairperson or the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and/or Administration. Article VII. Athletic Hall of Fame Committee Meetings Section 7.01 Meetings Athletic Hall of Fame Committee meetings shall be held as necessary to complete the directives of the specific and general purposes. Section 7.02 Voting During Athletic Hall of Fame Committee meetings, all members may vote by voice or written ballot as directed by the Chairperson. All votes must be unanimous for a nominee s induction into the Hall of Fame. Section 7.03 Quorum A majority of the Committee members shall constitute a quorum for Committee meetings.

Section 7.04 Special Action For situations requiring Committee action that occur where there is not time to constitute a quorum, the Committee may be polled by the Chairperson on an issue. Effort should be given to having a meeting to discuss the issue. However, if a meeting cannot be held the Chairperson may on these special actions poll the Committee members by phone or e-mail. Section 7.05 Permanent Records The Chairperson shall be responsible for keeping all records of the Committee s work. These are available for review to all current committee members and the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration at any time. Article VIII. Funds Any monetary donations that are desired to be donated to the Athletic Hall of Fame or Selection Committee are to be sent directly to the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. This committee does not nor will not solicit or collect any funds. All costs associated with the process for the Hall of Fame selection and induction will be the responsibility of the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. Awards, receptions etc. Article IX. Bylaws Section 9.01 Articles of Organization The articles of organization of the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee comprise these Bylaws, as from time to time amended. Section 9.02 Revision and Amendment These Bylaws may be amended by a supermajority (two thirds [2/3]) vote of those present at a regular meeting. Proposed amendments shall first be approved by the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration. Section 9.03 Review These Bylaws shall be reviewed every year by the Committee. Article X. Authority All voting for and in any meeting related to the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall rule by a unanimous vote of the members present.

Article XI. Hall of Fame History The Travelers Rest High School Athletic Hall of Fame came into existence on October 14, 2005 with the induction of the inaugural class of members that included Coach Dean Chico Bolin, Coach Joe Small, Coach Joyce Stanford and Mr. Randy Sullivan. Each of these members are recognized in the Athletic Trophy case at the high school and also in the annual All Sports Program. The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee worked with the school to begin this process. The Hall of Fame serves as a symbol of appreciation for the excellence and devotion of those selected. Article XII. Eligibility Criteria for Hall of Fame Nomination (a) Athletes will become eligible for nomination five years after graduation and coaches five years after service to Travelers Rest High School. The same time frame exists for all other potential candidates based on service to the school and the approval of the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Dept. and Administration. (b) The nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to his or her sport(s). Typically, this may include the attainment of All-Conference honors, All-Region honors, All-County honors, All-State honors, All-Time leading scorer, winning a State Championship, Athlete of the Year, etc. as a nonexhaustive list. (c) The nominee must also exemplify character while representing Travelers Rest High School and also afterward. In short, he or she must be a positive role model, worthy of being emulated by current and future students. Article XIII. Nomination Process (a) A nomination form must be filled out and submitted by or to the committee. It must include the year of graduation, the sport(s) played, and a list of the outstanding contributions made to his or her sport(s) while in high school and also may include any collegiate or professional sporting activities played after high school. The name of the person making the nomination and the date of the submission is also required. The form will also include a date of Oct. 1 st as the cutoff date for submitting nominations for the current school year and also the address of the high school where the forms are to be sent. (b) The completed forms should be sent to the TRHS Athletic Dept., to the attention of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee who will keep them on file. (c) Nomination forms will be kept on file for five (5) years and nominees can be re-nominated after the five (5) year period for another five (5) years, etc. Those who nominated someone not selected will be contacted directly for the re-nomination process. By keeping all nominations, the committee will be able to reconsider worthy people who were not selected previously. (d) For induction consideration in the current school year, notice that the nomination process is open will be advertised in the local media and that the official cutoff date is Oct. 1 st of the current school year. All nominations on file and received by the Oct. 1 st cutoff date of the current school year will be reviewed by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee by a set date of each year -- leaving ample time to order the awards for the inductees. The induction ceremony will normally occur at a home football or basketball game during the current or upcoming school year.

(e) Selection and induction into the Travelers Rest High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be limited to a maximum of three individuals per year. Any exceptions to this may be made under certain circumstances and must be with under-represented groups that should be considered first. This must still have the unanimous approval of the Selection Committee. Article XIV. Solicitation for Nominations Notices that the nominations are open to select new members will be placed in the local newspapers in our area, in the school newspaper, at sporting events, via emails and announced in our Athletic Booster Club meetings. We will also post the information on the Travelers Rest High School website. The committee will attempt to use every possible avenue to reach parents, alumni, and friends of the school. Any requests for nominee names must be submitted in writing to the Selection Committee Chairperson. Only the names of those nominated will be released and not any personal information concerning those nominees. Article XV. Notification of Hall of Fame Induction Those who have been selected by the committee for induction into the Hall of Fame will be notified by the Selection Committee concerning the details of the date and ceremony for their induction. Only those who have been selected will be notified and not all who are nominated. Article XVI. Removal from the Hall of Fame Individuals can be removed from the Hall of Fame under certain circumstances. This is a decision to be made by the Athletic Dept. and Administration.
