FALL 2012 We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the fall session, with some fantastic new programs in which your child/ren can participate. We are proud of the superb lineup of staff hired to lead your children in our many lunch and after school programs. We make every effort to open each child s mind to new and fun ways of learning. Some of the popular courses continuing for the fall session are: Jewelry Making & Kangoo Jumps. We are thrilled to welcome Enrique Welcher, a 9th degree black belt, who will be teaching both Karate and Middle School Self Defense. In addition, we also have an after school Tae Kwon Do class for the younger students. We have a wonderful new instructor who will be teaching a multi sport class on Fridays after school for grade SK- 1, as well as basketball for grades 2-5. Be aware that all of our classes have a maximum number of students that can be taken for each session. This is for the safety and well being of your children. Please take note of these numbers, and register early, our classes fill up very fast and we cannot accommodate extra children beyond our maximum. ALL CLASSES ARE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. Yoga Relax, stretch and grow! Rishma (full certified Yoga teacher) teaches yoga in an animated manner that kids LOVE. Age appropriate yoga postures help children develop strength, flexibility, balance and motor coordination. Other activities include creative movement, circle games and animal sounds which lead to increased concentration, reduced stress and inner peace. Join us over some chess pieces and boards and learn new moves, or master old ones. For all levels who are interested in improving their game and theory. Other board games may be introduced as well. An inexpensive chess set is required every week. Learn practical self-defence techniques to handle any situation. Defend against the most common grabs and holds, and improve your shape and confidence! Through a variety of co-ordination, balance and strength activities, students will learn the basics of Self- Defence. Much emphasis is stressed on discipline and focus. Its aim is to instill the skill, experience and confidence needed to speak successfully before a group. The program is founded on the principles of developing Visual (body language), Vocal and Verbal (content) excellence. Video and audiotaping is used to enhance the children s awareness of what they do well and where they could improve. Using Kangoo Jumps within the school environment will energize and motivate your child. Students will be able to have fun, while getting fit. Kangoo Jumps helps to improve balance, stability and co-ordination. Children will gain improved listening skills, and a healthy self image. Your child will beg for more! Rebecca Sutin will be taking our students to new heights with this amazing play. Come be Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, The Lion, and many, many other parts as we bring this play to life on stage! Cost: $200 (includes 2 tickets to see the play!) Reference: WIZ100 Min. 12, Max 18 students required Guitar A well-rounded introduction to the guitar and its uses in various musical contexts, will help students develop a sense of musical understanding and performance, while engaging them in fun and creative activities. Guitar lessons for Beginners and Intermediates. Each participant is required to bring his/her own guitar. Guitars can be rented from some retailers (approx. $20 - $35 per month). Cost: $230 Reference: MUSIC100 Min. 2, Max. 3 students Basketball Join instructor Ron as he teaches students the basic skills of the sport. Whether your athlete is a beginner or advanced player, the class will challenge them to improve their skills in a fun environment. Drills will help improve balance, footwork, ball handling, shooting, passing and rebounding. Students will then split into teams to put their skills to use. Let the games begin! Then students will begin to transform their drawings into unique and exciting pieces of art by experimenting with pastel, charcoal, pencil crayon, watercolour and collage.
