Content Items are setup with a drop- down menu just like in Angel. Individual Items have the same style drop- down menu for options. These include options for setting dates, copying, deleting and moving the item. Gradebook Click in the bottom left on Grade Center then click Full Grade Center. This is equivalent to clicking on Manage - > Gradebook in Angel.
Within the Grade Center, you can enter Grades just by clicking on a box. Under Manage - > Grading Schema you can add a standard A to F grading criteria and then edit a column like (TOTAL) to display the Schema as a Secondary item. You can also Manage - > Categories to add Categories of Assessments, add Calculated Grading Columns or Standard columns and do Reports. CONTENTS Once you ve added a few things into a Folder, you can move items around using a Click- And- Drag Feature on the left of an item. This is similar to Rearrange on Angel. You can do this with the buttons in the upper right though it may be confusing to students if these change from class to class.
Assignment: Try adding an Item, YouTube Video Item and a Web Link to a Folder. Edit the Content item so it gives some sort of directions for the week. Have the Web link connect to a new page at the Iowa Valley Web Site and have your YouTube Video link to one from Iowa Valley. There is a Show/Hide Details button on the right to make an area smaller. Adding a Test: Under Assessments, try adding a simple quiz. Pull Down under Assessment to Test then Click on the Create Button to create a new test. Name and give instructions for your Test and then click on Submit. You will then be taken to the Test Canvas to Add Items to your test.
Click Submit when you are finished with a question and OK / Submit when you are finished with the Quiz. This will take you to the Options for your Quiz where you can choose when to make the quiz available to your students, how long they have to do the quiz, what to show them once they have submitted the item and what to show them once it is graded amongst other items. Click Submit once you are finished. You can edit the Test Options or the Test itself on the pull- down item next to the test. Adding a Discussion: Go Under Tools and select Discussion Board. Click on Create new Forum then Name your Forum and choose the options for your Forum. Options include a Post- First type feature, date options, view options and grading options.
Click Submit and then Next and Submit when you are finished. You can also get at the Discussion boards from the icon on the Home Panel on the left hand side. HOME ITEMS: Speaking of the HOME ITEMS on the left- that area is where you will find a place for your SYLLABUS, COURSE E- MAIL and ATTENDANCE. If you are part of the Pilot program, you will also need to keep your attendance on Angel as well.
The INFORMATION button should hold your class information including your SYLLABUS. The COURSE E- MAIL button is for sending course e- mail information to and from your students. While the ONLINE ATTENDANCE button keeps track of your student attendance. You can add other items to this menu by clicking on the Plus (+) button and selecting additional tools that you wish to show on this menu. You can also move these menu items around with the Click and Drag feature. Speaking of Tools, it is a good idea to click on the TOOLS item and hide from your Students any Tools that you are not going to use in your course. Additional customization items can be found under: Customization - > Teaching Styles where you can add a Course Theme and menu style to your class. There is also a color style button in the upper right.
