STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA REGULAR SESSION STOKES COUNTY DANBURY, NORTH CAROLINA MARCH 20, 2006 The Stokes County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, March 20, 2006, at 6:00 PM at the Administrative Office in Danbury. Board Members Present: Mrs. Sonya Cox, Vice-Chairman; Mr. Ty Boles, member; Mr. Ernest Lankford, member; and Mr. Steve Shelton, member. Ms. Terri Fowler, Chairman, was absent. Administration Present: Dr. Larry Cartner, Superintendent; Mrs. Debbie Merritt, Assistant Superintendent; and Mrs. Ann Robertson, Administrative Assistant. Call to Order At 6:00 PM, Vice-Chairman Cox called the Board of Education meeting to order. Mr. Lankford gave the invocation and Dr. Cartner led the pledge. Recognition of Guests Dr. Cartner welcomed the guests and thanked them for attending the meeting. School Recognition Alexa Moorefield, a 5 th grade student at Lawsonville Elementary School was recognized for winning 1 st Place in the Elementary Division of the Region V Science Fair. Alexa also won the Northwest AHEC of Wake Forest School of Medicine Best All Around. Katie Sizemore, a 6 th grade student at Piney Grove Middle School was recognized for winning a Naval Special Award at the Region V Science Fair. The Board of Education also recognized eleven student teachers that are currently assigned in Stokes County Schools and their cooperating teachers.

Public Comments There were no public comments. Approval of Agenda Mr. Boles made a motion to approve the agenda as amended with the addition of item B, property negotiations under closed session. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. Consent Agenda Mr. Lankford made a motion to approve the following items under the consent agenda: approval of the regular and closed session minutes of March 6, 2006, work session minutes of March 9, 2006, fund raising requests and field trip requests. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. The schedule is as follows: Friday, May 26, 2006 6:00 PM Meadowbrook School Friday, May 26, 2006 8:00 PM West Stokes High School Saturday, May 27, 2006 9:00 AM South Stokes High School Saturday, May 27, 2006 11:00 AM North Stokes High School Administrative Procedures 3464: Commencement Exercises Mr. Shelton made a motion to approve the proposed revision to Policy 3464, which established the rotation schedule for high school commencement exercises. This revision establishes Meadowbrook School as the first commencement annually with all other schools following a three year rotation schedule. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. AS400 Lease Purchase Agreement Mr. Lankford made a motion to approve the lease purchase agreement for a new AS400 for the Administrative Office. This lease agreement provides for three installment payments. The first installment, $28,125.00 will be due upon delivery of the AS400 in April, 2006. The second installment, $28,125.00, will be included in the 2006/2007 Capital Outlay budget. The third installment, $28,125.00, will be included in the 2007/2008 Capital Outlay budget. If funds become available, the lease purchase agreement may be paid up at any time. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent.

Meadowbrook School Relocation Mr. Boles made a motion to approve the relocation of Meadowbrook to the campus of North Stokes High School, effective the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. Policy 6322 Student Assignment to Buses Announcements Discussion Agenda The Board discussed the proposed revisions to Policy 6322 Student Assignment to Buses. School Calendar 1. March 23, 2006 Report Cards 2. March 25, 2006 North Stokes Vikings Parade 2:00 PM 3. April 10-13, 2006 Spring Break 4. April 14 and 17, 2006 Good Friday/Easter Monday Holiday Meetings and Conferences 1. NSBA Annual Conference April 8-11, 2006 Chicago, Illinois Registration open/nsba Housing Bureau open. You must register for the Conference and receive a Confirmation ID #, before making hotel reservations. Next Board Meeting The Board of Education has scheduled the next regular board meetings for April 3, 2006, at 6:00 PM, at the Administrative Office in Danbury; and April 18, 2006, at 6:00 PM, at the Administrative Office in Danbury. The Public Hearing on the 2006/2007 Budget will be held on April 18. On a motion by Mr. Lankford, the Board entered closed session at 6:55 PM to discuss personnel, and property negotiations under NC General Statute 143.318.11(a)5,6. Motion passed 4-0, with Fowler absent. [Closed Session] On a motion by Mr. Boles, the Board returned to open session at 7:15 PM.

Personnel Report On a motion by Mr. Shelton, the personnel report dated March 20, 2006, was approved 4-0, with Fowler absent.
