3 5. STRATEGIES TO ATTRACT HIGH QUALITY TEACHERS: See Attached District Plan. 6. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT: What strategies/activities do you employ to increase parental involvement? You may group strategies by type of activities, time of day, purpose, or any other way your school s design fits into 2 or 3 entries in this category. Regular meetings are held which involve parents in the design, implementation and evaluation of the school wide program. These meetings include time to plan, implement and evaluate the Parent Involvement Policy/Compact, Parent Involvement Plan, and School Improvement Plan. Dates for this year s meetings are 9-11, 9-26, 10-17, 11-14, 12-5, 1-9, 2-13, 3-6, These meeting will be documented by sign-in sheets and agendas. At monthly literacy breakfasts, principal newsletters, and by perusing our school website, parents receive timely information about the Title 1 program and the curriculum, assessments and proficiency levels students are expected to meet, and are encouraged to participate in decision making opportunities about their child s education. Parents know how their child is progressing due to weekly homework folders, Strategy 1- Family Numeracy Breakfast-Grades (3,5)-parents in these grade levels are invited to attend this event. Parents enjoy a performance by their child s class; meet with the principal to learn about the curriculum, opportunities for parental involvement, tips to help their child succeed and expectations. Questions are answered as well. Families then spend time in the student s classroom working on a numeracy or literacy problem designed to teach parents how to help their student be a successful student. Strategy 2- Meet the Teacher-this beginning of the year activity is extended to all parents school-wide allowing the parent an informal opportunity to meet their child s teacher, drop off school supplies and learn about basic expectations. ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR STUDENTS EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTIES: What activities are in place to ensure that students who experience difficulty are provided effective, timely, additional assistance? For example: tutoring, MHP counseling services, etc. Mental Health Providers-(please adjust to fit your school s MHP plan)
8 MHP: Due to the transient and often unstable environments that many of Lee Road School students experience, a Mental Health Provider will work with students for 20 hours per week. This counseling will work to improve reading and math achievement by helping students to develop coping strategies for handling the conflicts and stresses that they face in life which in turn will allow them to focus on the academic materials being presented in the classroom. Students will be selected through a referral process and will work with the MHP for varying amounts of time depending on need. The administration (Anna Bowie, Kalinda Fauntleroy, and Shelly Morris) will monitor implementation of the MHP program. Due to the confidential nature of student involvement in the MHP program, Brenda Klazynski will also monitor student academic progress in conjunction with the classroom teacher through monitoring numbers of behavioral referrals leading to out-of-class time and/or percentage of completed assignments as is appropriate for each individual student s situation. Review of performance on classroom assessments, benchmark assessments and standardized tests such as LEAP and ileap will also occur. Positive Behavior Support (PBS) or other Social Curriculum Check in/checkout for students at all grade levels who demonstrate a need. Students in this program give the teacher a daily sheet where the teacher records progress toward goals, whether behavioral or academic. A third party monitors daily progress. Students receive instruction in math and ELA in resource classes designed to meet their needs. All students are, however, in a regular classroom for at least a portion of the day. MAE students are included in the regular education setting for as long as their behavior allows. Gifted students receive accelerated instruction in ELA and math. Talented students receive instruction in their designated areas. Classroom Size Reduction Teachers Jenifer Revere serves as our first grade Title 2 teacher. The fact that we have Mrs. Revere means that other first grade classes are reduced in size, thus insuring that every student receives more individual attention. Our Title 1 tutoring program has been restructured to meet this need. Paraprofessionals, offering one-on-one assistance to students in need of remediation, have demonstrated a positive impact on student learning in the past by boosting test scores of the students they work with. Program will evaluated by anaylsis of SLT data. Principal will collect data by August of Parental Involvement Parenting Committee, consisting of the Principal, one Assistant principal and PTA board members will meet to evaluate tickets-out-the door for events Parenting committee, consisting of the Principal, one Assistant principal, and PTA board members will evaluate attendance numbers at events to see what time/topics draw the largest groups of parents. This information will be used to plan and coordinate future school wide events. The Title I School Committee consisting of the Principal, Vice Principals, RHT, Guidance Counselor and parents will review the Title I Parent Survey results and the NNPS plan and survey information. After reviewing the results from this survey, the committee will use this information to design future plans. After each event, parents will compare current results to previous years. MHP Evaluation Form Lee Road Junior High
13 The students involved in the MHP program at our school demonstrated an increase in academic achievement as evidenced by a comparison of first semester grade and second semester grade analysis in JPams by the MHP, Mrs. Brenda Klazynski. The same evaluation program will be used this year. The goal to decrease referrals, time out of classrooms, and increase attendance was successful as evidenced by fewer referrals and less suspensions from the previous year and fewer absences by the students seeing our MHP. Professional Development Since our focus of WFSG is putting technology in the hands of students these sessions allow us time to collaborate and explore different venues to achieve this goal. Tech Tuesday provides the latest technology instruction and ongoing updates to teachers. These updates allow teacher to enhance their classroom instruction. SLT data will be sued to determine effectiveness of the Professional Development Program. 11.
