1 ST ANNE S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL MAY 2017 NEWSLETTER Website: Tel: I am very pleased to inform you that the gate on Tarbock Road has now reopened! It will give children and families a safer access route into school and help to take the pressure away from the pedestrian gate on Marina Crescent. The path from Tarbock Road and the land on which it sits, now legally belong to St Anne s Primary; thank you for your patience and belief that we would finally get this sorted! I would like to thank the Governors and the LA Officers for their support behind the scenes. However, the traffic and parking issue will continue to remain a problem for our school and families. Parents are requested to park considerately and NOT to block the Blacklow Brow entrance at ANY TIME. Civil Enforcement Officers have been asked to monitor the parking situation closely. On the theme of parking around Marina Crescent, I wrote to the Ward Councillors in March to tell them about the parking and road safety issues on Marina Crescent and to let them know about the great work that the joint School Councils have been involved with. Please click on the link below for an article which was recently published in the Knowsley Challenge Newspaper: So far, there has not been a response from our local politicians, but if this is an important issue for families too, then I urge you to contact your Councillors, because if they understood the daily dangers and how children are being put at risk, I would hope that they would give their support and work to do something about it. margaret.harvey@knowsley.gov.uk pam.spall@knowsley.gov.uk sarah.spall@knowsley.gov.uk WRAPAROUND CLUB We have now started our Wraparound Club, which takes place every night at school between 3.00pm and 5.30pm, and is different to the various extra-curricular clubs that we already offer. All children are welcome to attend; for some children this might mean attending an extra-curricular club first and then joining the Wraparound Club afterwards. The cost for this facility is currently 10 per child per night, which includes a drink and a snack. Places must be booked and paid for in advance and payment must be made via Parentpay. If you have any questions or queries please contact the school office. Please note that all payments for Breakfast Club must also now be made via Parentpay. If you have misplaced your registration details please contact the school office. SCHOOL AND NURSERY CLOSED GENERAL AND LOCAL ELECTIONS The school will be used as a polling station on THURSDAY 4th MAY so it will need to be closed for all children except Year 6. This enforced closure is always poor timing for the Year 6 children, as it is just before the assessment period in school. Therefore there will be a morning revision class for Year 6 so that they will not be disadvantaged. (Year 6 will have a wonderful holiday at PGL to look forward to in June after SATs whilst everyone else will be working back in school, so they shouldn t feel too sad about it!) Parents/carers, please be aware that the school gates will be closed for parking during polling day, except for staff and Blue Badge holders. CAN YOU HELP? Year 3 are still collecting food items such as bottles of cooking oil, bags of flour, sugar, dried fruit, cereal, pasta and rice for SHARE Knowsley. Toiletries are also still needed. A box has been placed by the school office in anticipation of your usual kindness. Many thanks for your ongoing support.

2 CHANGE OF UNIFORM FROM SEPTEMBER On behalf of the Governors, I am giving advance warning of a change to the Uniform Policy from September Unfortunately, this has become necessary due to the number of children, especially in Upper Key Stage 2 who flout the uniform regulations. We have a Uniform Policy so that all children are equal at school, which lessens the opportunity for the attitude of my clothes are better than yours. However, we still have some children who try to push the boundaries in an effort to wear designer/spotty/flowery/stripy/multi-coloured coats and this is unfair to those children and their families who adhere to the school policy. Therefore, the children will need to return to school in the new term wearing only a red coat with the school badge or a PLAIN RED coat/jacket, with no logos. The school coats are sold at cost price, as we do not aim to make a profit, and are of good quality. We want to make these coats accessible for all. Many thanks for your future co-operation on this matter. In the meantime, staff will continue to do a uniform blitz and Mrs Revell will continue to replace non-school coats with replacement school fleeces and coats, during the school day as usual. SPORTS NEWS During the summer term, the majority of PE lessons will take place outdoors, so parents are reminded that all children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are required to have trainers to change into as part of their PE kit for health and safety reasons. Unfortunately, pumps do not give sufficient support to children s ankles during outdoor games and we are mindful of preventing accidents. REJOICE ASSEMBLY There will be a Rejoice Assembly for Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3, Year 4/3 and Year 4) on WEDNESDAY 10 th MAY 2017 at 9.10 am. Parents are very welcome to join us. SATs WEEK The Year 6 SATs tests will take place from MONDAY 8 th MAY TO THURSDAY 11 th MAY inclusive. All the children have worked very hard this year and deserve to do well; we are very proud of them all. Good luck children! Once again we shall be running a free Breakfast Club beginning at 8.00am for Year 6 pupils each morning from MONDAY 8 th to THURSDAY 11 th MAY. Please ensure your child has early nights and arrives at school punctually during this week. Summer term assessments for other year groups will be completed by mid June and the results will be communicated to parents in the children s end of year reports. Many thanks to all the staff for running additional after school and lunch time booster groups, homework clubs and for taking small groups and one to one tuition in the lead up to SATs and the end of year assessments. WHOLE SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS The photographer will be in school on MONDAY 22 ND MAY to take individual photographs of all the children. If you wish for your children to be photographed with their siblings please inform the school office. Group photographs of Reception and Year 6 will also be taken. KNIVES AND FORKS As parents know, we only have one hall which is used for many purposes, including use as the dinner hall for the whole school. We already have staggered lunchtimes for Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two; I am sure you will appreciate that it is often difficult to get all the children through the hall in the time we have available. This is often made even more difficult for lunchtime staff as many children are unable to use a knife and fork, meaning that staff are having to cut their food up for them. Can we please ask for your help in teaching your children how to use a knife and fork properly at home, so that they are able to cut their own food up in school. Thank you for your assistance with this. HEAD LICE Cases of head lice are unfortunately an ongoing problem in school - please continue to check on a weekly basis and take appropriate action if an infestation is discovered so that children are not re-infected and the cycle perpetuated. Please DO NOT use head lice shampoo as a preventative measure, or it will be ineffective during an outbreak. Head lice and their eggs (nits) are nothing to do with lack of hygiene. SUMMERTIME HEALTH & SAFETY SUNCREAM, HATS AND WATER Our playgrounds do get very hot during the summer, and parents are advised to ensure that children come to school well-covered with sun cream as unfortunately the staff are not in a position to administer cream to every child. Water bottles are also a must so that children can sip water (not flavoured) throughout the day. They should be transparent 500ml bottles with a sports cap and labelled with your child s name so that they can be taken onto to the playground at lunchtime or refillable water bottles. Every child was recently given a water bottle from United Utilities these are ideal for use in school, but please ensure it is labelled with your child s name. Children should also have a school cap to wear in the hot weather. Please note these are no longer available from the school office they can be purchased from Lisa s Schoolwear, 275 East Prescot Road, L14 2DB (tel ) or from the Marks & Spencer website. We do also ask that the children have a red school cap with them when they go on a school trip. Please ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled with your child s name. Caps that are not part of school uniform will be marked as amber in the children s Assertive Mentoring files initially, and then red. The children will have some shelter from the sun from the shaded seats next to the activity playground as well as the outdoor classroom and the awnings. However, if your child is particularly sensitive to the sun, or if you have a particular concern, please do not hesitate to contact us.

4 HEALTH & SAFETY Parents/carers are reminded that dogs (except guide dogs) and chewing gum are not permitted on the school grounds. Children should not ride their bikes/scooters when they are on school premises. Bikes and scooters should be walked through the school grounds. We ask that parents are considerate of our neighbours when parking on Marina Crescent by not blocking driveways and by observing the no parking road markings at the entrance of the school. Parents/carers are reminded not to come on to the school field or a playground until 3.00 pm as it is a distraction for children during their lesson time. SCHOOL LEVY Families who have not yet paid the school levy for this academic year are reminded to send their contributions into the office as soon as possible. Many thanks. 100 CLUB 1 st Prize No. 38 Sarah Wrigley 2 nd Prize No. 90 Laura Doolan 3 rd Prize No. 50 Louise Tran HAPPY BIRTHDAY We would like to wish the following children HAPPY BIRTHDAY this month:- George Bowers, Hannah Mitchell, Maddie Bell, Niall Smithwick, Zack Roberts, Oliver Smith, Rosie Burgess, Rocco Humphries, Adam Lyons, Charlotte Matthews, Callum Russell, Harry Humphreys, Hollie Roscoe, Grace Wray, Gabriel Ladusans, Katie Reeves, Jack Egan, Brandon Pryor, Mae Rattigan, James McManus, Riva Wady, Scarlett Maynard, Tomas Moran, Harry Higgins, Ruby Roberts, Oliver D Arcy Lang, Marcus Woodside, Joshua Jones, Eva Caffrey, Ruby Lynch and Daniel Porter.
