2 GOVERNORS JOTTINGS I must stop weeping! The last week has quite literally moved me to tears on several occasions. The staff and pupils are amazing. On top of a very full term which, as always, was crammed full of hard work, enthusiasm and a joy of learning, the staff still found time and energy to stage two wonderful Christmas productions: Whoopsa-Daisy Angel and Tinsel and Tea Towels. What splendid productions they were too! Beautiful solos and duets and dancing interspersed the lively happy singing and I came away from both events feeling very Christmassy. Evidence of the hard work was all around from the art work, the decorations in both halls and the costumes. It all contributed to an immense feeling of joy. It is to the credit of the staff that they are determined to see that pupils learn about the meaning of Christmas whilst having such fun. As Mrs. Smith remarked with regard to the Foundation Stage production, considering they have only been at Bursledon for one term it is amazing how much has been achieved. It augurs well for the future. Following the successful inspection in the Infant School earlier this year the Junior school too was inspected in November and, again, the result was good. The inspector said the pupils lived up to the school mantra of love, respect and aspire and concluded, this is a happy and thriving school where staff work tirelessly to achieve the best outcome for pupils. Our very grateful thanks to all the staff at both schools who work so hard. We welcome aboard a new governor to our team, Mr. Matthew Parker. This term has seen us involved in examining school catchment areas, admissions consultations, school funding and building work to provide a new classroom for the ever expanding Junior School. We all enjoy the regular Learning Walks whereby we can see for ourselves the standard or work that takes place day in day out. We derive great pleasure in leaving stickers in the books that we review. The writing that followed the Harry Potter trip was outstanding. The Governors Special award this term goes to: - Rhydian Evans in Seahorses for consistently striving to be better than his best, Emmie Prentice in Turtles for never accepting second best in all she does, Kalea-Joe Vernon in 6M for her hard work and resilience and Sean White in 4T for always aspiring to do his best and being a loving, caring peer. I had the privilege of presenting these awards at the end of the church services at St. Leonards. Whilst walking back to my car after the service a gentleman said to me It s nice to see the little ones coming down to church each Christmas. I so agree with him and the sound of the children singing Away in a Manger was certainly one of the times when those tears came unbidden to my eyes.. On behalf of the governing body I would like to wish all pupils, staff and parents a very happy Christmas and we send you all best wishes for the coming year. Naomi Fisher
3 BURSLEDON SCHOOLS PTA Some parents may have noticed the PTA Fundraising Success boards in both the Junior and Infant School receptions. The PTA committee recently discussed how we could visually make parents and staff aware of the amount of funds being raised by the PTA. A big thank you must go to Mr. Roger Pilgrim (PTA Treasurer) who very kindly donated the boards for both schools, which he made himself. All funds raised will be used to help both schools whether it is for the playgrounds or to help the schools purchase items that are needed for the children s education. Once each of the targets has been met the PTA will show on the board what the money has been used for and we will continue to update the expenditure via the Newsletter page. PTA EXPENDITURE As part of the Purposeful Play initiative the PTA have agreed to fund the cost of setting up 5 zoned areas for the Junior School (Skipping Zone, Craze of the Week Zone, Singing and Dancing Zone, Quiet Zone and Football Zone) and 3 zoned areas for the Infant School (Skipping Zone, Football Zone and Quiet Zone) and will be purchasing a Zone Post and sign (as shown) plus the playground markings for each of the zones. Total cost 1,087 Mrs. L. Dyer (Co Chair) Mrs. S. Stubbs (Co Chair) Mrs. S. White (Secretary)
4 ATTENDANCE The attendance figures for each year group for last week were:- Foundation 92.66% Year % Year % Year % Year % Year % Year % KING ARTHUR PANTO NON-UNIFORM CHARITY A total of was raised across both the schools ( at the Junior School and 194 at the Infant School) for the non-uniform charity which took place on 8 th December for the King Arthur Panto. The School Council is currently deciding whether to use the funds within the school, donate to an external charity or save the funds for a larger project. We will notify the parents once a decision has been reached. BOOK FAIR The Book Fair was a great success with sales totalling The school has taken this amount in books to put into the school library. A big thank you to parents who purchased books and stationery.
5 HAMPSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE Children from the school choir recently went to Southampton Airport to sing carols along with choirs from another three schools to help raise money for the Hampshire Air Ambulance. We are delighted to inform you that a total of was raised on the day. And finally The staff of both schools would like to wish everybody a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in 2018.
