1 4 TH MAY 2017 Moore Primary School Striving for Excellence TEAM OUTDOOR DAY In just over a weeks time (Tuesday 16 th May), we will be having a team day with an outdoor theme. It will be a non-uniform day when we will ask the children to come dressed in an item of clothing in their team colours (if possible) and wearing clothes suitable for being outside for most of the day. They will need a waterproof coat/sun cream and hat, depending on the weather on the day! The children will then join together in their teams and begin their activities, ranging from outdoor cookery, making dragon feeders and even rebuilding villages! The activities will all be based around a story of a dragon and will be the inspiration for a range of writing activities back in the classroom. We also hope to have lots of visitors joining us for a really fun outdoor day. 2 REMINDERS Outreach Library Service (mobile library) will be visiting Moore on the following dates: 6 th June YEAR 5 CONWAY TRIP Last week, Year 5 went on an action-packed trip to the Conway Centre in Anglesey. The children had a fantastic time, climbing, raft building and exploring the out-doors. Mr McWatt commended the children on their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm whilst on the trip. Our thanks to him, Mrs Baldwin, Mrs Walker and our three parent volunteers for giving the children such a wonderful experience and lots of happy memories. TEA & CAKES TOMORROW It seems a long time since our last tea and cakes and I am really looking forward to meeting up again with you over tea and cakes. If you can make it that would be great, and of course donations of cakes are as always gratefully received. We also will have the recycled uniform on sale and with the weather being a little more promising we have school summer dresses and shorts which are a bargain at 1 per piece. All money raised will go towards improving our playgrounds for the children. Many thanks in anticipation. 3 RECEPTION CLASS A TASTE OF GERMANY Last week, Reception children got to travel the globe again and found out about life in Germany, thanks to Philip s mum, Mrs Hill. They were able to taste traditional bread, learn about schooling in Germany and they also learned some German words. The children are really enjoying learning about other countries and cultures different to their own. Look out for a feature about last week s visit in the Runcorn Weekly News. ATTENDANCE We have seen an increasing number of applications for holidays during term time recently. All applications must be submitted on a Holiday Request Form which states that holidays in term time will only be authorized if there are exceptional circumstances. Full attendance is essential for all children but particularly important for Year 6 and 2 who ar e preparing for or taking National Tests during May and June. SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY Please remember our uniform policy: Only studded earrings and a watch may be worn. No other jewellery is permitted. Nail varnish should not be worn at any time. Hair should be suitable for school with no extreme styles and long hair should be tied back at all times but not with fancy hair bobbles. LOST PROPERTY Lost property is an age old problem, for which we have still not found a complete solution to. We seem to have a lot of lost property with no names on and we also seem to have property that cannot be found. Could you please check your children s clothing and shoes at home to see if it belongs to them. We are still missing Junior trainers metallic blue with orange/red on them and a track suit top. If you have acquired any additional named clothing could you please send it in to school. Could I also make a timely reminder to please ensure that all your children s clothing is named (especially as the sun is starting to shine and the children take of their jumpers, cardigans and coats off). Unfortunately this is taking up a lot of man hours. If clothing is named, it will get back to you but un-named items are nearly impossible to return to their owners. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated. NEXT WEEK SATS Next week will see Year 6 taking their National Tests (SATs) which they have been working very hard towards all year. Attendance and punctuality during this week is really important. We would ask that Year 6 children come in to school by 8.45am Monday Thursday so that they can get organized and settled. Once all of the tests are completed, the Year 6 children will enjoy a special buffet lunch on Friday prepared by the kitchen. A trip to the Chill Factore in Manchester will take place the following week. We wish you lots of luck and will all be rooting for you. 4 COMMUNITY NEWS We have been asked to share the above Safari Walk Sponsored Event. This is something some of our families have done in the past and they hope as many people can take part in it with them again. The best thing about it is that once you have done the walk you are able to use the Safari Park facilities for a bit of family fun. STOCKTON HEATH NETBALL TEAM An opportunity has arisen for any girls who would like to join one of their year 6 netball teams, some experience needed but as long as you can train with the team on Thursdays and play on Sundays, let them know.
