4 An effective online trainer uses technology to co-create a new kind of learning experience with learners. It s not the same kind of learning experience that we had in the classroom, but when it s done right, it works pretty well. 5 The elearning Guild s SLS report Page 3
5 Opinions about SLSs from The elearning Guild s Synchronous Learning Systems Research The five most effective things to do to get the most out of your SLS are: 1. Set up information sent in advance. 2. Make sure trainers and presenters have adequate training on how to present effectively. 3. Provide online coaches and event producers to ensure well-run sessions. 4. Offer live tutorials to show learners how to use the system. 5. Gain support from upper management. from The elearning Guild s Synchronous Learning Systems Research Page 4

11 Typical objections Technology can fail in the middle of the session. People multitask during online sessions. I m not able to observe participants body language or eye contact to ensure that they are with me and learning. Learners don t have the attention span to stay online and stay interested. It s hard to keep track of everything that s happening during a session. My content won t work in this format. I don t like it. I can t connect with learners and build rapport like I can in person. It s easy for you. I can t do it. What I do isn t training, I do demos. My students don t want to participate. Key areas to prepare Presenter Technical Content Participants 20 Page 10
