Topics Presenter Tim e Inspirational Quote Education is the most powerful weapon and which you can change the world. Anonymous Stacy Smith Stacy Smith Intersession Choice Boards: reminder of feedback from parents o shared that the choice boards were fun and got parents involved in their child s education. Some parent were unaware of an incentive to complete them. suggested we help increase the awareness about the choice boards and the incentive. said she has tons of resources in creating the boards. Incentives can be 0

2 Science Focus o determined by the teacher. Gale will order pizza from the cafeteria if you want to talk to her. Teachers are to put the choice boards on the shared drive. The theme and grade level was decided based on what we learned from the first intersession. Only 0% came and saw no residual impact across the 3rd th grade levels. We are trying out a science camp on fifth grade. There may we some students from other grades that admin will select to attend based on some other criteria. Weather and Ecosystems will be the focus. Field trips and outside speakers will be arranged by. Arts Integration Follow Up Information from the January 24 meeting was shared with the staff and LaChawn in an . How have PLCs followed up? o Sabrina shared how the second grade team had different ideas about what arts integration is. Kindergarten discussed needing to be more comfortable with the arts standards and they decided to focus on one in their planning (mixed media). suggested this be discussed more at the beginning of the year. Upcoming Professional Development from Enhancement Team o Enhancement team will offer this again this year. PE will also be included this year. A member of each grade level will attend each session (theater arts, dance, theater, music, and PE). Teachers will attend the enhancement team s session and then he enhancement teacher will go back to the PLCS to meet with them and help them integrate. Ieashea suggests teachers come with a lesson in mind before they come to the PD. AIG Credentials Update County wide initiative to ensure all AIG students receive uniform differentiated instruction Teachers with any identified student(s) are required per district policy to have credentials 4 sessions: hour long PD, with assigned homework = CEU hours and AIG credentials Focus on differentiated learning in the classroom and supports Learning Focused framework. Not just an AIG specific PD. Credentials do not expire. We tentatively scheduled March 8 and 22. The participants would determine how to arrange the other two sessions. Grade chairs need to if they are interested in participating. Cindy shared some additional information about SIOP for Ieasha Seales 0

3 ESL children. These are good credentials to have for working with ESL children. Difficult or Different People Our behavior makes an impact. When our impact is positive, trust and respect increases over time. When our impact is negative, trust and respect break down, usually over time. We can choose behaviors that create positive impact. NC STAR and NC TWC Focus Review E.02 All teachers regularly assign, check, mark, and return homework. Review the homework policy created by the NC STAR Parent/Community Engagement Team. Mandi shared that Mandi, Kellie, Beth B., and Cindy created the policy using the feedback from the team and using the Wise Ways. The PLCs are to determine how they will monitor and give feedback on homework because this is the next NC STAR task. It was discussed that the policy was written for K so there is some flexibility in the policy. Some teachers shared how they are differentiating and giving ideas like question stems for parents. The homework policy is on the webpage. It was recommended it be placed in the parent compact next year and be updated in the Parent/Student Handbook. Assess B2.02 The Leadership Team (SIT) shares in decisions of real substance pertaining to curriculum, instruction and professional development. emphasized School Improvement Team is the leadership team and we need to move the school forward. Other leadership teams are NC STAR Teams, MTSS, PLCs, Instructional Leadership Team, and Admin Team. Ieashea said we have multiple teams making decisions that give opportunities for other staff to participate. NC STAR Teams are trusted to make decisions. Data is used to make decisions. Minutes from all of the teams are uploaded into NC STAR. The way the NC STAR teams are aligned with committee responsibilities works. The team decided we were limited with this indicator and want to grow into including arts integration, vertical alignment, AIG, EC, etc. Emily shared how her PLC worked on the half day Mandi Kausak 0 4

4 planning and included Ieashea, librarian, and they planned a unit with her. Half day planning was beneficial this semester. Next time, the EC teacher, AIG teacher, and enhancement teachers could merge into those half day plannings. Ieashea shared the success with the fourth grade team. Having the agendas in advance were beneficial. E.04 All teachers regularly make interactive assignments that encourage parent child interaction relative to school learning. We determined we are limited. Adding real life ideas on the newsletters this year is a step I the right direction. Emily said fourth grade has strategies to send home the night of student led conferences. Common core is a struggle for some parents. Cindy will need to share the Title I survey results with all staff. She sent them to LaChawn and the she asked to share it with the board. There were questions about the final plans for Student led conferences. Waltrina will send out the information to keep everyone informed. Summary of NC STAR: We have had 48 tasks completed, 22 Leadership Team meetings and 2 objectives accomplished. We assessed 36. Indicators this year and were told by the state to address 2. Parent Input Mr. Rini is looking forward to Student led Conferences. Plus Clarification on choice boards Talked about optional AIG credentials Assessed two indicators Summary of all we have completed in NC STAR Trying to integrate EC and enhancements into half day planning Positive Good conversations Louise Walston Sabrina Rivenbark 2 Delta Still figuring out how to get everyone AIG credentials Tabled two indicators Next Steps SIT members need to read indicators in advance to contribute to the discussion.

B3.0 The LEA/School monitors progress of the extended learning time programs and strategies being implemented, and uses data to inform modifications Next Meeting: Monday, March 6, 207, at 3:00 p.m. *Regular attendance by SIT team members is important to our efforts as a team. However, if a SIT representative is absent, a replacement is needed from your team to attend.
