Welcome from John Murphy A very warm welcome to Oasis Community Learning! I am delighted that you and your daughter or son are interested in becoming part of Oasis Academy Immingham. Oasis Community Learning was established as a Multi Academy Trust in 2004 with the vision to create: Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community. We now run Academies in four main regions throughout the UK, providing either primary, secondary or all-through education. All our Academies are committed to providing a rich educational experience and ensuring that every child and young person has the opportunity to achieve at the highest level. Our ethos is integral to that provision: it is an expression of our character, a statement of who we are and therefore the lens through which we assess all we do. We are committed to a model of inclusion, equality, healthy relationships, hope, and perseverance throughout all the aspects of the life and culture of each Academy community. We passionately embrace learning and are committed to every child within our care reaching their full potential and developing holistically across every area of their lives, both now and in the future. All of this is underpinned by our philosophy of education which highlights our focus on inspirational leadership, deep learning and healthy communities and aspires to develop the character and competence of every child within every community that we are part of. At Oasis Community Learning therefore, we believe we are all the architects of our students lives and as such we are committed to laying the right foundations for every one of our young people. So we look forward to your daughter or son potentially becoming part of Oasis, in the knowledge that we will work in partnership with you to ensure they become confident learners ready to fulfil their aspirations in life. Best wishes, John Murphy We are all the architects of our students lives so we need to lay all the right foundations John Murphy Chief Executive Officer, Oasis Community Learning 2

Welcome from Sara McLoughlin I am exceptionally proud to welcome you to Oasis Academy Immingham. Our mission is simple: we will ensure that your child excels in all they do. Whilst they are with us, we will offer them a truly happy childhood experience and provide them with a caring environment. Oasis Academy Immingham is a cheerful, friendly place in which everyone can feel at home and give their best. We insist on the highest standards of good behaviour, mutual respect and concern and we expect all students to take responsibility for themselves and for others. We support this with a high level of pastoral care and support (including specialist services) for any student who needs it. We aim to ensure your child is safe, healthy, happy and enjoys the benefits of excellent teaching and learning. Our wish is that our children leave here with a broad range of qualifications, which allow them to fulfil their aspirations for the future. I believe in creating a positive and happy environment for all of our children so they can build their confidence, selfbelief and develop a lifelong love of learning. I believe that all children have excellence within them and it is our mission to unlock that potential; every child is valued and is an important member of our Academy family. A family that extends beyond the students who attend here. I fully appreciate the importance and value of working with parents, carers and the local community in ensuring the success of our children. I look forward to working with you all and building a bright future for Immingham! After aquiring a Good in our latest Ofsted inspection our goal now is to create an Outstanding Academy for our outstanding students. At the heart of our school community are our house groups. Each house group has a group of highly skilled tutors led by a Head of House who are in turn supported by Pastoral House Managers. From receiving the students in Year 7 we work with them to learn, grow and achieve their full potential right through to Year 11. In Year 11, students have a bespoke tutor system in order to maximise their learning time and an intervention system to help students succeed. We expect every student and member of staff to emulate our REACH values of respect, enthusiasm, achievement, community and hard work, as we believe this will allow them to become the best version of themselves. Please feel free to contact the Academy at any time to arrange a visit. We have a fundamental belief in transformability, and that anyone can achieve Sara McLoughlin Principal, Oasis Academy Immingham 3

The Oasis 9 Habits Compassionate Compassion is the ability and willingness to place ourselves in the position of another and, as a result, be able to show kindness to them, without ignoring or dismissing the truth about their situation. Honest Patient Patience is the ability not just to tolerate delay or something not happening as quickly as we might have hoped for. Humble To be humble is to recognise that all people are created equal and are therefore of equal value. Because of this, a humble person will not laud it over others or use power to coerce, or pursue positions and status but instead will choose to serve others, seeing their intrinsic worth and giving them honour and encouragement. Joyful Real joy is not shallow or momentary but is rooted in a deep sense of contentment with life, free from grasping and striving. Such joy brings peace and calm to ourselves and others. It is liberating and life giving and builds up resilience in our lives and the teams we are part of. Honesty is about being truthful. Being honest includes acknowledging when we have got things wrong and taking responsibility for our actions. As we do this, we become a person of integrity - there is an alignment between what we say we are and how we behave. Considerate Self-controlled Hopeful Hope is not wishful thinking. It is a belief that causes us to find the light when everything around us feels hard or dark or challenging or without hope. Someone once said that you have to kick at darkness until it bleeds daylight. So hope is about holding on and working for a better tomorrow, despite what the conditions and circumstances say today. Knowing your own intrinsic value and worth and, by seeing others in the same way, to be inclusive of them. Forgiving To forgive another is to choose not to allow their actions and behaviour in the past, which may have hurt or offended us, to determine our behaviour towards them in the future. Forgiveness is never easy but it is always transforming...it always changes things. Self-control is having the ability to manage our own emotions and actions. When we have self-control we are not controlled by our own emotions but are able to maintain a right perspective on our life, our work and our relationships. It is a key part of emotional intelligence. 6

Within each house there is a sense of belonging and collective responsibility, along with that healthy competitive spirit! Our students and staff are proud to wear their house colours. They collectively aim high and enjoy celebrating successes. Year 11 tutor groups have targeted intervention with heads of departments to maximise their potential. 9 Curriculum Broad and Balanced Oasis Academy Immingham provides a broad and balanced curriculum at both key stages, and places our students at the heart of what we do. We have organised the curriculum such that students have an extended Key Stage 4 provision, and we encourage them to make their decisions at the end of Year 8, so that there is plenty of time for them to excel in their chosen subjects. The Core The core of the curriculum comprises English, maths and science. Students have a solid grounding in these subjects at KS3, so that they can go on to achieve success at the end of KS4. Not only do we aim to encourage a healthy mind, but also a healthy body, to which end all students have two sessions of PE a week throughout their time at the Academy and experience a wide range of team, personal and individual sports and activities, both indoors and out. Rewarding Students We recognise all students value rewards, whatever their age or ability and so at Oasis Academy Immingham we make rewarding students one of our top priorities. We have a flexible system where any member of staff can issue hard working students with achievement points for demonstrating our values. And these can be redeemed in our exciting rewards shop. Innovative Approaches A can do culture is promoted throughout our Academy. The gifts and talents of our students are celebrated so that we nurture confident, creative and independent learners who are able to respond to the world of the future. All Oasis Academies offer opportunities for extended learning and independent learning beyond the normal Academy day. Students make increasingly good progress from their starting points Ofsted Report - April

Organisation of Learning We firmly believe that quality and organisation of learning in the Academy provides our students with the best possible start to their lives. Oasis Academy Immingham prides itself on the quality of our transition arrangements from primary to secondary school. We continue to develop close partnerships with local primary schools to ensure we have a strong understanding of the needs of every child and we are able to make them feel safe, comfortable and welcome. Likewise, the same philosophy applies to any student joining the Academy at any time. We support a range of charities, whilst also creating unique learning opportunities through our Oasis Global Partner, South Africa. We encourage our students to take responsibility for improving the community in which they live, whether that be in the Academy, the town of Immingham or the wider global community. We encourage students to be active, independent learners and to get involved in the continuing development of the Academy. Communication with parents is one of the keystones for ensuring that students make excellent progress in their learning. Parents will receive a termly update on their child s academic progress in the Academy. We hold progress evenings to meet with your son or daughter and teachers to discuss progress and set targets. Parents are encouraged to contact the Academy at any point if they feel there are concerns with their child s learning that need addressing. We provide intense focus on intervention to help students catch up and offer a number of outstanding reading support schemes to allow every student to access the curriculum and achieve. As students move up the Academy, they are faced with choices over which subjects to take. The Academy has achieved the Gold Standard in Information, Advice and Guidance, which means we provide excellent support and advice that ensures students choose the best subjects suited to their needs. 10

Living and Learning Together Community Vision The vision of the Academy is to create both an outstanding school and a community hub. State of the art buildings are providing an opportunity to engage with the local community. The aim is for local residents to be able to access a wide range of provisions including our fitness suite, sports hall and multi use games area (MUGA). Oasis believes that it has a duty to respect the environment through a commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. Resources entrusted to Oasis Academy Immingham will be used with integrity and responsibility. Healthy Living The Academy is committed to healthy living and there is an ethos of balanced healthy lifestyles, demonstrated through policies regarding school meals and ecological building design. To promote our healthy living ethos, we ensure that local people have access to, and are involved in, the design and delivery of services that improve health and well-being. This is achieved through the concept of the Academy site as a centre for healthy living, involving a network of activities and outreach work which promote good health through health information, physical exercise and education from the site. The local GP practice is involved in designing and delivering the health activities on offer. Creative partnerships with the local GP practice and other health professionals and agencies will be developed to ensure people living in the local area can achieve their optimum state of well-being and health. As part of the Academy s community sports strategy examples include: health and fitness courses, healthy eating programmes, walking clubs, social clubs, arts classes and other activities aimed at improving the health and mental well-being of residents living in the area. 11

Admission Arrangements Safeguarding Students Oasis Academy Immingham is a non-selective Academy open to all students of all religious faiths and those of no faith. At Oasis Academy Immingham we believe that students will aim high and be inspired to excellence if they feel safe, happy and well supported. If you are a parent or carer of a child currently in Year 6 and wish to apply for a year 7 place at Oasis Academy Immingham for the following September, you will need to complete the Common Application Form and return it to the admissions section of North East Lincolnshire Council. 13 Outstanding Opportunities As a new Academy we have excellent facilities in a building designed for 21st century education. The centrepiece of our Academy is the Agora, a market place where students work and achievements are showcased. The Academy also has many eco-friendly features such as solar panels and a rainwater harvester. We are an ICT-rich environment with easy access to the Academy network, both in and out of school. Parents and carers will be able to access information on their child s attainment, progress and attendance at any time. We have excellent links with other Oasis Academies, developing as more Oasis Academies come on stream. We also have excellent links with other Oasis Hubs from around the world, providing a rounded educational experience. The fitness suite, sports hall and multi-use games area (MUGA) provide excellent facilities. We will also access off-site facilities for other sports such as sailing and rock climbing. The catering facilities are first-class both for students to use and for students to learn. We are developing expertise in hospitality and catering and will encourage business development in these areas. Arts and Technology are well supported with indoor and outdoor performance spaces, engineering workshops and high specification design equipment. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela 13

A message from our founder Steve Chalke When I started Oasis back in 1985, I had no idea it would grow into the wonderful family of charities that it has become today. In Oasis Community Learning, we are the country s second largest provider of Academy schools, educating around 25,000 children and young people. Through Oasis Aquila Housing, we provide housing for vulnerable young people. With Oasis Community Partnerships we run social projects from community farms and coffee houses to churches and children s centres and much more besides. And we do this in communities as diverse as Gateshead in the North East to Bristol in the South West. So, the question is why? Not only do we believe your child should receive the very best formal education, but also that there is more to a healthy life and future than simply the knowledge they hold. Every one of us is a product of the community in which we live. That is why Oasis is passionate that every community served by one of our Academies should be a happy, healthy place where every person is included and valued, and has the ability to thrive and achieve their full, God-given potential. That is why Oasis vision not only aims to deliver outstanding education, but also to help build great local neighbourhoods. We are motivated by our core Christian ethos which means that we believe every person those of all faiths or none are equally valuable and have a part to contribute in helping Steve Chalke MBE Founder, Oasis this vision become a reality. Helping a young person realise who they are meant to be is about more than simply the qualifications they get or the job they want; it s about how they see themselves and those around them. That s why Oasis goal is to help create great communities where every young person achieves their best, respects themselves, values those around them and contributes to the good of all. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to an Oasis Academy in order to experience this for yourself. We are hope - we are future. We are community - we are relationships. We are unique - we are inclusive. We are enjoyment - we are perseverance. we are learning - we are achievement. We are Oasis 14
