3 Studio Graphic Design 1 ECTS credits: 16 Course unit code: M3ERA9050 Coordinator: Johan Vandebosch Period: Autumn The Graphic Design program involves experiment, research and dialogue. The projects are illuminated from various perspectives and debate is not avoided. Through fictional and concrete practical assignments, contemporary graphic designing is continually exercised. The final goal is to offer the student a route by which he/she can develop his/her qualities to the fullest in order to be able to meet the multiple needs of a future professional practice that includes research. The type of education we opt for is 'assignment driven instruction' (also called project driven instruction) and 'problem driven instruction' in which independent study is important. The instructors function as fictional clients and evaluate the students continually according to established criteria. Graphic Design The instructors, Geoffrey Brussato, Dr. Tom Lambeens, Johan Vandebosch and Dr. Ann Bessemans, all have feeling for the practice as they also have a job as an independent graphic designer, as a freelancer for agencies or are active in the research community. In addition to the instructors, the fellow-students are important for consultation and feedback. By means of group discussions, teamwork and cross-over projects, an interesting cross-fertilization occurs. 2 Bachelor years in Graphic Design & evaluation of portfolio of personal creative realisations
4 Studio Illustrative Design 1 ECTS credits: 16 Course unit code: M3ERA9030 Coordinator: Kris Nauwelaerts Period: Autumn The Graphic Design program involves experiment, research and dialogue. Illustration Design Non-fiction as well as fiction illustration work is done with pencil, pen and brush as well as with 2D and 3D software. An artist remains an artist, whether he works with bits or pigments. The most important thing is to be able to tell a fascinating story visually. Searching for one's own style; the refinement of figuration, expression and composition; experimenting with colors, textures and techniques; working out the combination possibilities with an accompanying text; consulting with publishers, editors or authors and making an illustration press-ready are essential elements in the career of an illustrator. Kris Nauwelaerts, Wout Olaerts, Dr. Tom Lambeens and Kim Duchateau are your design coaches. 2 Bachelor years in Graphic Design & evaluation of portfolio of personal creative realisations
5 Studio Interactive Design 1 ECTS credits: 16 Course unit code: M3ERA9040 Coordinator: Piet Seurs Period: Autumn The Graphic Design program involves experiment, research and dialogue. Interactive Design In the course of study we focus on web design, animation and video in an interactive context. The program includes web design, game design and video clip design. The goal of the program is first of all to train experts who can be responsible for the innovative conceptual and visual design of applications in the (interactive) audio-visual sector. In addition, theoretical knowledge (computer and peripherals, screen formats, sound formats, compression methods, structures of interactive applications, creation processes of applications, etc.), practical knowledge (application of the theoretical knowledge, etc.), software knowledge and programming know-how are indispensable for the visualization of the creative ideas of the designer. To accomplish the above goals a distribution of tasks is provided that is based on the expertise of the various internal instructors and that meets the requirements of the curriculum. We also supplement the internal expertise by bringing in external national and international experts as guests for lecturers, workshops, etc. to the extent that our offering can meet a demand. Coaches for the Interactive Design Studio are Krista Smeets and Piet Seurs. 2 Bachelor years in Graphic Design & evaluation of portfolio of personal creative realisations

The instructors function as fictional clients and evaluate the students continually according to established criteria. Advertising Design Advertising is communicating a certain message, a message that usually consists of language and image. Advertisements, billboards, and TV or radio spots not only require formalistic thinking, but also creative ideas and slogans.
