Target 2: Introduce elements worksheet Week 3

2 Learning Objective #4 Created a second pinch pot Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #4 Target 1: Make a second pinch pot that it wider then tall, has a braid, discussing and demonstrating score, slip and sealing on one piece of clay to another, discuss and add texture. Target 2: Continue working on elements worksheet Week 4 Learning Objective #5 Create a third pinch pot in high fire clay. Stress creativity! Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #5 Target 1: Demonstrate joining 2 pinch pots together, using clay tools, reinforce scoring, slipping, and sealing. Target 2: Continue working on elements worksheet Target 3: Discuss how to store unfinished work with paper towels and plastic bags. Week 5 Learning Objective #6 Discuss and glaze the 3 types of glaze and properties. Also introduce how to use a paint brush and how to clean one properly! Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #6 Target 1: Complete a glaze worksheet and review. Target 2: Have students learn about under glazes and its requirements for successful application of glaze on their first pinch pot, must have a pattern Target 3: Have students learn about low fire glazes and their properties and apply to second pinch pot. Target 4: Teach students where their work is to be fired and location of all glazes. Target 5: Teach students about high fire glazes and its properties. Glaze their 3rd pinch pot with high fire glaze. Week 6

3 Learning Objective #7 Critique student work Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #7 Target 1: Critique one on one with each student about their first 3 pots. Week 7 Learning Objective #8 Introduce the slab method of working with clay and how to make a mold out of paper. Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #8 Target 1: Show students 2 DVD s about mask making and cultural masks, show slides of past student work positive and negative results. Target 2: Have student s research masks from a Culture of their choice need 5 examples printed and ready to reference. Target 3: Demonstrate how to make a paper mold Target 4: Demonstrate how to use the slab roller. Target 5: Reinforce how to work with tools and adding clay to their masks. Target 6: Discuss positive and negative spaces. Additive and subtractive methods used here. Weeks 8 and 9 Learning Objective #9 Colorize and decorate masks. Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #9 Target 1: Introduce acrylic paint and its properties. Target 2: Discuss the differences of glaze to paint. Target 3: Show how to string beads, wire for hanging and adding extra using a hot glue gun. Target 4: Critique work. Week 10

4 Learning Objective #10 Students will make a project using all the techniques they have learn up to now: pinch, coil, and slab. Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #10 Target 1: Review how to pinch, coil and slab clay. Target 2: Show slide of student work and discuss and demonstrate how to make a cylinder with clay. Target 3: Discuss how to build work that is taller than 6-8 inches. Target 4: Introduce ongoing tile project. Weeks 11 and 12 Learning Objective #11 Introduce wheel work. Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #11 Target 1: Demonstrate how to use the potter s wheel, set up, centering, opening, pulling up or out, trimming the bottom of the pot, clean up. Target 2: Show student work of altering one s wheel thrown piece. Weeks 13 and 14 Learning Objective #12 Introduce Southwest coil pots. Target(s) and to Meet Learning Objective #12 Target 1: Show DVD on history and how to create a Southwest styled pot and answer questions from the worksheet. Target 2: Demonstrate how to start a Southwest pot. Target 3: Discuss symbols of the Native Americans of the southwest, demonstrate how to etch selected symbols on student work. Target 4: Demonstrate how to wrap the completed pot in newspaper and foil. Week 15
