Add+Vantage Math Recovery College Station ISD
Focus for Today 1. Explain the components and features of Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR) 2. Share our journey of bringing Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR) to our district 3. Identify the challenges and goals for Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR) in the future
Add+Vantage MR (AVMR)... Provides a unique approach to professional development for improving elementary numeracy instruction and student achievement. Supports K-5 mathematics assessment and teaching through innovative approaches to understanding children's mathematical thinking. Provides teachers with resources to analyze and modify instructional tasks to meet the needs of a diverse range of students. This expertise allows teachers to customize any commercial mathematics resources specifically for the individual children in their classroom.
AVMR Professional Development Courses 1 & 2 Content addressed in Course 1 includes: Addition & Subtraction Structuring Number Number Sequences Number Identification Content addressed in Course 2* includes: Conceptual Place Value Multiplication and Division Concepts
Features of Add+Vantage MR (AVMR) A detailed understanding of how children develop early numeracy via the Learning Framework for Early Number. (Wright, 2006)

Features of Add+Vantage MR (AVMR) Efficient and effective assessment tools to recognize their students current understandings of number concepts, and to support data-driven instruction. Collegial teams developed during the course provide for ongoing study.
Features of Add+Vantage MR (AVMR) Videotaped interview-based assessment (Ellimore-Collins and Wright, 2008) that utilizes informed dynamic assessment ideal for reluctant learners and underachievers, as well as highly competent students. Course participants practice administering and analyzing their videotaped assessments in collegial teams with the support of the Add+VantageMR course facilitator.
Features of Add+Vantage MR (AVMR) The diagnostic nature of the assessments and the classroom profiles improve data management and allow for more systematic differentiated instruction.
Teacher feedback AVMR has opened my eyes to how students learn number sense! I ve grown in my teacher content Numbers mean so much now! I have had huge aha's that I have been doing some of this but I have the tools now to know what to do with the information! knowledge and I m excited to apply what I ve learned at school. I hope all teachers can be AVMR trained. AVMR goes hand in hand with our district 3 Cs & 3 Rs. I m nervous and will probably need help BUT, I m excited to see results! I now have a really good tool to use to assess where my kids REALLY are in Math. I can use my results to guide my lessons, individual interventions and have info for parents and SIT!
The Journey Math Recovery Intervention Specialist (2 participants) AVMR Courses 1 & 2 with Math Recovery facilitator (19 participants) Math Recovery Champion training (2 participants) AVMR Courses 1 & 2 with in-district facilitator (120+ participants) Math Recovery Intervention Specialist (2 participants)
What are some of the challenges of implementation? Costs: Training Kits and other materials Time: Full district implementation Creation of customized materials for our learners
What are some of our next steps with AVMR in CSISD? Continue to provide ongoing AVMR professional development opportunities for all K-8 math teachers Develop ready to use assessment tasks and instructional activities that can be added to each teacher s AVMR kit Send 2 math specialists to Math Recovery Intervention Specialist training to support the sustainability of professional development that ensures quality math instruction
With relentless curiosity, we invite you to open the doors unlocking the potential and possibilities within each child Through your persistence and inquisitive pursuit of understanding, you will make a difference in transforming numeracy education. Carolyn Olijnek, Math Recovery CEO
