All eleven Fellows were present and eager to begin and conclude our 2016 Leadership Program. 2 Monday, September 13, 2016 SMU Collins Center Lecture Hall 8:45am to 5:00pm Social Media Branding Debbie Saviano Board members/staff in attendance: DeLisa Rodney and Pamela Estes How to maximize the impact of social media. Successful Business Professionals and Entrepreneurs recognize and appreciate the Value Impact and Reach of LinkedIn. Today, there are two things we all expect to have in our lives we want to be Changed & Connected. Very few people leave home without their mobile device and the Internet is an appendage most of us couldn t live without. Regardless of our thoughts or beliefs about Social Media, it is here to stay and it is an integral part of our lives personally and professionally. Workshop included the following: WHY Social Media is important HOW it can leverage your expertise WHERE it can be effective for you personally & professionally WHO can benefit from using Social Media WHAT are the strategies and techniques that will bring the most value Fellows participation included: Bringing their laptops Creating/revising their LinkedIn Profile Bringing a print out of the first page of all their Social Media platforms accounts (twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) A positive attitude that together they can accomplish great things for their ROI Return on INFLUENCE 2
3 Tuesday, September 13, 2016 SMU Collins Center Lecture Hall 8:45am to 12:00pm Building A High Performing Team Dr. Dr. DeRetta Cole Board members/staff in attendance: DeLisa Rodney and Pamela Estes This workshop prepared Fellows how to improve the cohesion and functioning of their teams by applying The Five Dysfunctions model: 1. Inattention to Results 2. Avoidance of Accountability 3. Lack of Commitment 4. Fear of Conflict 5. Absence of Trust Workshop included: Understanding the Expectations for a Cohesive Team, based on the 5 Dysfunctions Gaining basic understanding of the degree to which their team meets the expectations Oral presentation on utilizing key planning elements on individual CSP Identifying the necessary steps to take which will improve their teams functioning Fellows participation included: Building Trust Mastering Conflict Achieving Commitment Embracing Accountability Focusing on Results For a Team to improve, the Leader has to go First! 3
4 Tuesday, September 13, 2016 SMU Collins Center Lecture Hall 2:30pm to 4:00pm Powerful Storytelling: A Seat At The Table Kevin L. Clayton Jumpball, LLC Board members/staff in attendance: DeLisa Rodney and Pamela Estes Are you sitting at the table? This powerful storytelling segment provided Fellows with insights on developing strategies and obstacles regarding securing a seat at the table inside the C-Suite. Kevin shared his life journey and presented his perceptions and experiences in climbing the corporate ladder. Key Take Aways: Be sure you know what tale you want to sit at and why you want to be there Develop internal and external support team Be visible throughout the organization Be a good teammate versus a team player Network outside your job function Diversify your career Think career track not job assignment Ask for help and support Stay in contact with your network Reach back and help others 4
5 Wednesday, September 14, 2016 SMU Collins Center Lecture Hall 8:30pm to 12:00pm COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT PRESENTATION Today s session began at 8:30am with all the Fellows present and looking chic in their Red and Black. The morning started with a special presentation from Fellow Daphney Lindsey. Daphney spoke to each of her classmates regarding the everlasting impression they ve left on her life and how important attending and participating in this years program helped her achieve remarkable accomplishments in her personal and professional life. She then presented each fellow, board chair and executive director with a survival gift bag explain each of its contents and how to utilize it going forward. DeLisa Rodney and Pamela Estes presented each Fellow with a personal gift and thanked them for allowing us to be an integral part of their life s journey. Our CSP presentations began at 9:00am with the following Agenda: Welcome/Introductions CSP Overview CSP Presentations Closing Fellows Unite Pamela K. Estes Tangie Tolbert 2016 Fellows DeLisa Rodney Undisclosed Attendees included: DeLisa Rodney, Tangie Tolbert, Pamela Estes, Dionne Wallace Oakley (Erie Insurance), Kevin J. Frasier (Walmart), Jennifer Kleman, Angela Raggi & Fran Dillard (Texas Instruments), Krista Moffett & Barb Reese (Safe Haven) FELLOWS IN ACTION! 5
6 We were honored to have our corporate guests attend the CSP Presentations and each felt welcomed and actively participated in presentation. Many commented that they were really impressed with the Fellows and wanted to stay connected with the Fellows and provide ongoing assistance with their projects. Key Learnings Session III is always bittersweet due to the ending of the program. All our Fellows were excited and filled with anticipation of concluding their seven month journey. Through their journey, relationships were formed, skills were enhanced and each Fellow was overjoyed with their NAAWLI Experience! The Sweet 16 class definitely bonded and forged a partnership that will endure them for years to come as well as serve as a support mechanism for all. They showed tremendous growth and leadership skills by: Showing unity amongst themselves Collaboration and support for each other (team building/leading) Enhancing and elevating their Leadership skills This class recognized and demonstrated the full comprehension of our Community Service initiative through their efforts with Alley s House and giving back to NAAWLI with a $650 cash donation. 6
7 Results The success of NAAWLI s Leadership Program is due to our participants, their experience and our presenter s. Each year, our participant s skills/knowledge varies, which allows us to re-evaluate our program and content and to ensure each Fellow has an unforgettable and rewarding experience. Recommendations will be incorporated into our 2017 Leadership Program Two Fellows immediately sought to become board members The Sweet 16 class Community Service Projects effected approximately 959 individuals in 8 cities/states o Bentonville, Arkansas o Corona, California o Jacksonville, Florida o Johns Creek, Georgia o Erie, Pennsylvania o Las Vegas, Nevada o Fort Worth, Texas o Dallas, Texas 7
