3 Howdy Fellow T-Birders, Spring has sprung, well not yet, not even close but you can t blame me for being hopeful. This winter s rain season has surpassed my want for rain. Of course, it s all good and the reservoirs and aquifers are filling up nicely. We had our second meeting of the year on February 12th and it was a beautiful day, with many driving our classic cars while others drove their retro birds. Don and Bobbi Murrison arrived in Bobbi s late model Ford Granada, what a nice car! The theme for the meeting was Valentines and our hosts Jim and Judy Lyon, with the help of Jan Peterson, decorated and provided bags of treats. There was a great turnout and as usual, we all had a delightful time. Our event calendar is filling up and Jim Darwin agreed to host the March Meeting which will be held at the Hot Ro Diner in Ceres on March 12th. Details on the March meeting can be found on page 2 of the newsletter. We are still looking for some tour ideas for the year so if you have an idea contact Don Wigle so we can get it on the calendar. QC is May 18th to 21st. We have a count of about 9 cars going to Scotts Valley/Santa Cruz. We ll need to get a steering committee set up at our March meeting to plan our routes and drive times. I will go ahead and conclude this letter and hope everyone stays safe and dry as we prepare for yet more storms. Jim Ridenour Legislative Alert No on the Gas Tax Information from Keith Rogers Well, here we go again, proposed fuel tax increases in 2016 failed. Now that there is a Super Majority in both the Senate and Assembly, we can all expect fuel taxes and vehicle registration to increase. First in the Senate is a bill to increase fuel taxes, both gas and diesel. Diesel will be increased 60% from $.33 to $.53 per gallon. Gasoline will increase 36% from $.33 to $.45. In addition, sales tax on each will increase 4%. In the Assembly is a bill to increase annual vehicle registration fee from $43 to $81 a 53% increase and add an annual $165 fee for zero-emission vehicles. So roughly here is what the tax will cost you: Average car/truck 20 gallons per week or $2.30 per week X 53 weeks = $125 Vehicle registration D fee from $38 to $81 Add the two together for an annual increase of $163 per vehicle owned In addition Gov. Brown has also asked for a $65 access fee per vehicle per year to the already high fees and taxes. An increase to rates will raise the price on nearly everything from groceries to construction equipment. So what can you do? Contact your representatives in both Senate and Assembly and let them know why you oppose any tax an fee increases. Say no on the Gas Tax! To find your representative: 3

VP S THOUGHTS Reflections on the last month and things to come It looks like I was a little premature last month when I wrote about spring being here. We had a few nice days in February, fortunately the 12 th was nice for our lunch meeting. I ended up driving home with the window open, and thought about putting the top down. The rest of the month seems to have been a nasty combination of wind and rain. I hope everyone survived with all their landscaping intact. There were quite a few fences and trees down in our neighborhood but luckily not ours, so far. Apparently we're going to have lunch at a new venue, thanks to Jim Darwin who stepped in to give Jan Peterson a break. I looked at the menu for the Hot Rod Diner and it seems they have a good selection. With the car show season just around the corner, I want to let everyone know that if they have a group going to a particular show, we have a banner that you can put up to get a little attention for the club. Let me know if you need it. Again, thanks to everyone who has volunteered to host a meeting, the calendar is full for our meetings with a host for each month except for July. 6 Sending get well wishes to Monty and Bev Montgomery and Don Cose, hoping to see them at our March Meeting. If anyone knows a past member that would like to attend QC, pass the name and address on to the Monterey Club and they will mail an invitation to the individual. Post a picture to the Central Coast Classy Club s Face Book page on Sunday, May 21st, of what you are doing that day with your T-Bird. Anyone interested in the ATT Park tour on March 18th please contact Jim Ridenour. This tour is conducted by the Mustang Club. In addition to the park tour, they will be touring parts of San Francisco including Lombard Street. The fee is $18. For information contact Jim Ridenour. We are excited that we have recently added several new members, and we have more. Potential members have been in contact with Jim & Judy Lyon; Jim Ridenour; Pat Mason; Jim Montavon; and Sandy and Joe Hood. Elaine Rogers received a card from Associate Member Fran Miller. Fran enjoys the monthly newsletter and said hello to everyone. Pat Mason was one of 17 individuals who recently graduated from the California Highway Patrol Senior Volunteer Program. Statewide there are 900 seniors who volunteer their time to support the CHP. Jim Montavon is seeking assistance with Tweety Bird #1 rear axle fluid leak. Members recommended Riverbank Rear End Shop. 6

CTCI: Jim Montavon Elaine Rogers reported corrections to CTCI regarding Pat Mason s address and Jim Ridenour as President, it will be a month or so until their website is up dated. While Elaine and Katrina are working on an article for CTCI, the next club goal would be to get a car featured on the cover of the Early Bird. Pat has copies of past car articles if one of those members would like to submit it with a picture of their car. Weather and conditions permitting several members are planning to take pictures of their cars in the orchard of Jack and Janice Martin while the almond blossoms are blooming. See Jim Montavon if you are interested and would like help submitting your car to CTCI for the cover. Instructions for submission of articles and pictures can be found on the CTCI website. Donna and Jim Montavon have plans to drive their new retro bird down to Pismo to celebrate their 44th anniversary. ACCC: Keith Rogers Reported that there are plans to once again boost the gas tax on both gas and diesel, and also the car registration tax moving up $ Maybe it s time to start calling our legislators. Elaine reported that ACCC sent a thank you card for renewing the membership. See for information not covered here. Pat distributed club information cars to be passed out when members find a potential new member. Use them to hand out at car shows, or any where you happen to run into an interested TBird fan. Remember to get quotes to Pat of the most outrageous comments made about your bird while out and about past and present. Guide lines for hosting a meeting: Seek out a vendor who can provide a separate room without charge to hold approximately members, order off the menu with separate checks, limited menu/gratuity included is also acceptable, if possible a full bar, tables for check in and Give-a-way. Book the room from 11/1130 a.m. until at least t2:00 p.m., longer if possible. Meetings are set for 12:00, members begin to arrive at 11:30. The host can choose whether or not to provide decorations, however, it is never necessary. Have the information ready to present at the meeting preceding the month being hosted, along with a sign-up sheet to circulate. 10 QC+ XXXX 40th Anniversary May 18-21, 2017 Quint Clubs event hosted by the Monterey Bay Classic Thunderbird Club. Thursday, May 18, 2017 Early arrivals may check-in at the hospitality room between 3 6 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017 You are on your own for dinner. There will also be a list of dining options included in your packet. The hospitality room will be open between 8-10 am and 2-5 p.m. Two outings are offered for Friday. Options and lunch included on registration form. Meet and greet planned for 5-7 pm. Details on registration form and in packet. Saturday, May 20, 2017 You are on your own for dinner. The Show & Shine will be held in the parking area between 8-10:30 am. Voting for your favorite 55, 56 & 57 and Retro cars will take place at the Show & Shine. The poker run will begin at 11:00 am. A lunch stop will be included along the way. President & Editors meeting will take place at 3:00 p.m. (Location to be provided.) Happy hour and dinner will be in the banquet room beginning at 6 pm.
