1 Sensory-Friendly Hallowe en in Greenfield Village Social Narrative 1

2 I can t wait for Sunday, October 15! I get to go to Hallowe en in Greenfield Village! I can wear my Halloween costume if I would like to or I don t have to if I don t want to. I will need to leave any kind of sword, broom, weapon, or other sharp object at home for tonight. 2

3 We go over the rules for visiting Greenfield Village one more time when we get there: 1. Stay with my adult at ALL times. 2. Walk only. No running. 3. No touching anything without my adult s permission. 4. No climbing on anything unless my adult says it is ok. If I get lost, I can go to a Greenfield Village worker and ask for help. To find a Greenfield Village worker, I look for someone who is handing out treats or selling something or wearing a police officer uniform. 3

4 There will be lots of people in Greenfield Village. They may stand close to me. I should not touch, shove, or yell at other people. If I get too bothered, I need to tell my adult that I need a break. We will make many stops throughout Greenfield Village to get treats and watch shows. One of our first stops is to hear a group of singing vampires, the Transylvania Trio. 4

5 Just like in The Wizard of Oz, we will go to Oz. Here, we will find our first treat stops with characters from The Wizard of Oz. There s even a face on a wall that looks and sounds like the Wizard of Oz. We will stop for many different treats tonight. When we stop, we may have to wait in line. I will be patient, not touch other people, and let my adult know if I need a break. We will walk by different characters to get our treats. I might find some of the characters to be scary. I will let my adult know if I am too scared to go near a character. 5

6 We will walk through a haunted forest. It may be dark and the ground may be uneven. I will tell my adult if I am too scared to walk through the forest. We can walk around it if we need to. There s a quiet area in the Village Pavilion. It has bean bag chairs and Halloween activities. We can stop here if I feel like taking a break. 6

7 We will walk by Madam ZaZa to get treats. She s a fortune teller! We will also walk by a Halloween market with brooms on display. We will soon pass a cemetery. There is fog and smoke by the cemetery. 7

8 While walking down a hill from the cemetery, I will hear the sound of singing pirates! It may be crowded here, with lots of people and noise. I will not get too close to the water. I see another treat stop up ahead! It s a giant pumpkin. We also stop to take a look at a tree full of pumpkins. 8

9 I hear some music in the pumpkin patch. Can that really be singing pumpkins? It is! We will soon stop for treats by Sir Knight and next pass by a row of scarecrows. I wonder if any of the scarecrows will move. 9

10 Near the scarecrows, we can stop for a snack break or we can keep walking. If we stop, we can watch a silent movie. We will soon come to a covered bridge. Fog, smoke, and strobe lights are inside the bridge and it is dark. If I m too scared to walk inside, I can walk along a path outside of the bridge. I do not get too close to the water under the bridge. 10

11 I see dancing skeletons up ahead! We stand and watch them for a while. Shortly down the road, we will come to a treat stop with the Bride of Frankenstein. We will then take a break for a story. I may hear the story of the Tell-Tale Heart, Little Red Riding Hood, or Hansel and Gretel. Or maybe I will listen to the songs of the Potion Sisters. 11

12 I see our next treat stop! It s the Mad Hatter and March Hare. I hear lots of noise nearby. It s a group of people and Dr. Frankenstein! We stand and watch. 12

13 Our next stop is to watch the Top Hat Side Show. I can see people doing acts using fire or swords. There are lots of other people here. If I am bothered by the crowds or show, I need to tell my adult. One more treat stop is nearby. It s the Queen of Hearts! 13

14 Our last stops of the night are to see the Grim Reaper and Headless Horseman. I see lots of other people watching. We watch too. If I am bothered by the crowds or shows, I need to tell my adult. My visit to Hallowe en in Greenfield Village has come to an end. I had a great time and can t wait to come back next year!
