ExtendEd will launch this fall in several cities across the country. This event will also honor KIBI founder and community leader Joe B. Maddox. Starting in August of 2016, Johnson University ExtendEd sites will offer affordable, localized degree programs at partner locations around the country including at The Regas Building in downtown Knoxville. These small, faith- based programs will provide meaningful learning opportunities and flexible delivery methods combining online and on- site classes with hands- on experiences in churches and other organizations. 4 MEDIA RELEASE Johnson University Celebrates Launch of ExtendEd Knoxville in Partnership with the Knoxville International Bible Institute The two institutions celebrated their new partnership and the launch of ExtendEd Knoxville at The Regas Building in downtown Knoxville on Thursday night. Knoxville, TN April 22, 2016 The evening of Thursday, April 21 st, the representatives of Johnson University and the Knoxville International Bible Institute (KIBI) met at the Regas building to celebrate their new partnership in ExtendEd Knoxville. Knoxville is one of the first locations of Johnson University s new ExtendEd venture. ExtendEd Knoxville will begin offering Adult Evening degrees in August of 2016 and benefits from KIBI s long history of passionate education and close ties to the greater Knoxville community. KIBI founder Joe Maddox says, I started Knoxville Interdenominational Bible Institute in 1998 because I wanted to equip leaders in the church especially the African American church with biblical knowledge and the skills to pastor others. This partnership with Johnson University builds on that purpose. The accreditation, reputation, and degree- granting ability of Johnson University will strengthen our program and reward participating faith leaders for the time they are investing in themselves and others. Through its new ExtendEd brand, Johnson University can provide Christian education opportunities to a wider array of students in a local community context. About Johnson University ExtendEd Knoxville Johnson University has partnered with the Knoxville Interdenominational Bible Institute (KIBI) to equip students with sound training in Bible, theology, and Christian ministry. Students will benefit from Johnson University s accreditation, affordable tuition, flexibility, and experienced and engaged faculty passionate about each student s success. Students can complete a bachelor s degree in either Ministry Leadership or Pastoral Care and Counseling. Both programs include a second major in Bible and Theology. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings at The Regas Building in downtown Knoxville, and students will have ongoing online interaction with professors and other students throughout the week. Students will also be able to apply their theoretical knowledge in real- world settings through professional internships. Generous transfer policies will enable students to apply previously earned college credits and, in some cases, credit for relevant work and life experience to the ExtendEd Knoxville program. Depending on the number of credits transferred, many students will be able to complete their bachelor s degrees in as little as two years, even while working full- time. 5

7 BIOS Joe B. Maddox, DMin, Founder of Knoxville Interdenominational Bible Institute Joe Maddox earned a bachelor s degree from Fort Valley State College, a master s degree from Tuskegee Institute, and a doctorate degree from the North American School of Theology. He also has a Certificate of Christian Education from American Baptist College. After working with environmental research roles with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Norris Tennessee from , Maddox began a 15- year stint with the U.S. Department of Interior. He was ordained to preach in 1984 and has served as the pastor of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville since Maddox founded the Knoxville Interdenominational Bible Institute in He has also been involved in missional activities in seven of the Virgin Islands since 1989 and in Kenya and Uganda since Christopher Battle, MDiv, Senior Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church Christopher Battle is the Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College, a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts from Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. He is also pursuing doctoral studies at Liberty University. Battle has pastored churches in Kentucky, New Jersey, and Ohio. He taught as an Adjunct Professor at Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary, College of Mount Saint Joseph, and Northern Kentucky University. He now serves as an Adjunct Professor at Knoxville Interdenominational Bible Institute and Covington Theological Seminary. He is the Moderator of Education for the Knoxville Baptist District Association and a former Board member of Compassion Coalition. Gary Weedman, PhD, President of Johnson University Gary Weedman is the sixth president of Johnson University, beginning his tenure on July 1, He formerly served as senior vice president of TCM International Institute in Heiligenkreuz, Austria; provost at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida; and vice president for academic affairs and dean at Milligan College in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Weedman graduated from Johnson University with an A.B. degree in He received his M.A. degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, in 1967, and his doctoral degree from Indiana University in He has also studied at Lincoln Christian Seminary in Lincoln, Illinois and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Weedman has served as a guest lecturer in seminaries and colleges in Romania, Moldova, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Japan, Uzbekistan, and Great Britain. He has written a number of articles and books and made a presentation at the International Society of Biblical Literature in Groningen, the Netherlands. 7

8 Daniel Overdorf, DMin, Dean of the School of Congregational Ministry at Johnson University Daniel Overdorf spent ten years ministering with churches in Illinois and Georgia before joining the faculty of Johnson University in 2005, where he serves as Dean of the School of Congregational Ministry and Professor of Preaching. He holds degrees from Johnson University, Lincoln Christian Seminary, and Gordon- Conwell Theological Seminary. He has written four books, most recently One Year to Better Preaching: Fifty- Two Exercises to Hone Your Skills, and Rediscovering Community: What the Bible Says About Church. Kenneth Woodhull, DMiss, Executive Director of Urban Alliance, an initiative of Johnson University Kenny began his nonprofit journey with a three- year stint in Knoxville with the Volunteer Ministry Center as a chaplain and volunteer coordinator in the early 1990s. He then went on to co- found and direct several nonprofits in the Knoxville area. In 2011, he took on an adjunct teaching position at Johnson University in the School of Intercultural Studies. He was later hired by Johnson University as a full- time professor in both the School of Business & Public Leadership and the School of Intercultural Studies and became the executive director of Johnson s Urban Alliance initiative. Kenny holds a Doctor of Missiology degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, a Master of Christian Studies from Regent College, and a Bachelor of Arts from Carson- Newman University. 8
