3 Overview: Blending the Arts and to Create Powerful Outcomes In the fall of 2012 the Board of Directors of Texas Boys Choir, Inc. began developing a six-year strategic plan for the organization and its three entities: Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA), Texas Boys Choir (TBC), and Texas School of the Arts (TeSA). The Board of Directors and senior staff developed the long-term plan over the course of several months after numerous sessions within planning sub-committees, focus groups of various constituencies, and reviews and assessments of current artistic and academic performance measurements. The process The Mission Statement of each entity was reviewed and updated, and Vision Statements were created. With that foundation the Board, staff, parents, students and community leaders were asked to express their vision for the organization through a series of town hall meetings. Those meetings provided a wealth of considerations and dreams for the organization, which the board assimilated, studied and discussed in great depth. This document reflects the guiding vision for the organization over the next several years. There is agreement that FWAFA, TBC, and TeSA have had a positive impact on the academic, artistic and emotional development of every student and for nearly 70 years the organization has continued to enrich the artistic environment in the community of north Texas and beyond. But in a dynamic environment we recognize that Texas Boys Choir, Inc. and its schools and choir must work proactively to meet the ever-changing needs of current and future students and audiences, and to enhance the delivery of all aspects of its programs. The success of the choir and schools provides a tested model of student achievement and growth. Whenever possible Texas Boys Choir, Inc. needs to widen its footprint in order to touch the lives of more students and families. The conclusion Texas Boys Choir, Inc. is entering a new phase of development to meet the growing needs of current and future students and audiences through comprehensive artistic and academic program development, physical expansion, financial diversification and stabilization, and with increased marketing and stakeholder engagement activities. 3

By design, this Strategic Plan is aggressive in its implementation because the Board and staff are committed to providing the best experience possible to the north Texas community as soon as is feasible. The Board organized the Strategic Plan around four focus areas. Strategies primarily for non-artistic programs, curriculum planning and development, and teaching methodologies Strategies relating to artistic foundations and training, and the vision and legacy of the entities Strategies for creating significant increases of the organization s resources, capital assets, reach and profile Strategies for retention and development of internal capacity and capabilities including governance, operations, policies and procedures, human resources/personnel For each timeframe in the plan, we have developed Strategic Goals, each of which is supported by a series of Operational Keys. In each case, the Goals are tied to the Missions of the organization. We are sharing this Strategic Plan with our stakeholders. We believe all who contributed, including those constituencies, will play an important role in our future accomplishments, guided by a thoughtful and cohesive roadmap. Our Heritage The Texas Boys Choir was founded in 1946 to provide a structured environment for the development of a world-class performing choir of boys. For nearly 70 years the choir has been a publicly supported 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fostering the talents of gifted young men. In 2001, TBC, Inc. opened its first charter school, the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, and began providing arts and academic education for boys and girls in grades 3 to 12. In 2007, Texas School of the Arts opened and now serves grades Kindergarten to 8. Combined, the two schools educate and train nearly 900 students from the north Texas community. 4

Our mission is to establish, support and grow our charter schools, the Texas Boys Choir, and our other artistic programs, which are designed to foster a lifelong passion for artistic and academic excellence. 5

Statements Choral Our vision is to be the premier music education program in the nation, dedicated to developing musical artistry and excellence through choral music performance. Dance Our vision is to be a dance program that is regarded by college and professional dance programs as a desired school of training, and attracts local dancers by providing a strong technical foundation in order to build dynamic, engaging performers. Orchestral Our vision is to guide students by education, cultivation and enrichment to become ambassadors of musical and artistic excellence within our school community, the greater Fort Worth area, and beyond. Theater Our vision is to foster creativity, imagination and collaboration in a state-of-the-art facility, while developing tudents talents to prepare them for professional aspirations and/or a life-long passion for theater arts. Visual Arts Our vision is to develop young artists making them capable of re-contextualizing their world for the better. 7
