2 BENCH TO BEDSIDE SKIN OF COLOR SYMPOSIUM 2017 Dear Colleague: The Hampton University Skin of Color Research Institute (HUSCRI) Bench to Bedside Skin of Color Symposium 2017 is designed to disseminate the latest research on skin conditions that disproportionately impact minority populations. We are pleased to host our fifth symposia in partnership with the Department of Dermatology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. 3 BENCH TO BEDSIDE SKIN OF COLOR SYMPOSIUM 2017 REGISTRATION TARGET AUDIENCE This conference is designed for dermatologists, plastic surgeons, primary care physicians, physician assistants, residents, students and professionals with an interest in skin research in skin of color. COURSE OBJECTIVES Identify, diagnose and treat rare or serious dermatological disorders that most commonly occur in skin of color. Translate research about dermatological diseases that are most commonly seen in skin of color and apply those findings to clinical practice. CREDIT DESIGNATION Eastern Virginia Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. ACCREDITATION This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Eastern Virginia Medical School and Hampton University s Skin of Color Research Institute. 6 BENCH TO BEDSIDE SKIN OF COLOR SYMPOSIUM 2017 RISING STARS TRAVEL GRANT COMPETITION This year, we are pleased to introduce the Rising Stars Travel Grant Competition. Residents, fellows and medical students are invited to submit abstracts of their work for the poster exhibit. The most meritorious abstract authors will have the opportunity to present during the general session. All submitted abstracts will be evaluated for scientific merit and originality by our scientific review panel, and The authors of the abstracts selected for oral presentation will EACH be awarded a travel grant that will cover 2 nights stay at the Lansdowne Resort and travel expenses (coach airfare, mileage reimbursement, etc.) The abstract deadline is September 1, Instructions for the abstract submission can be found online at VENUE & LODGING The 2017 Skin of Color Symposium will be held in historic Leesburg at the Woodridge Parkway Leesburg, VA A block of rooms has been reserved at the Lansdowne Resort & Spa at a rate of $170 per night (single/double) for a standard guestroom (plus taxes).
