Since the same textbook will be used for Math 267 Calculus III at LAMC, it is highly recommended that you purchase the bundle (book and access code) from the college bookstore. However, you may choose to purchase MyMathLab access code only from mymathlab.com or at the bookstore since MyMathLab contains the full etext in the program. If you have taken Math 265 recently at LAMC, you may have bought this book and used MyMathLab to do the online assignments. In that case, you don t need to buy anything for this class. Students are highly encouraged to take advantage of the interactive figures in this awardwinning textbook. Read the textbook and explore all it has to offer. The use of the ebook requires downloading the free For more information, please go to:

2 Prerequisite Math 265 or appropriate skill level demonstrated through the Math assessment process. Course Description: The second course in differential and integral Calculus of a single variable. Topics include: differentiation and integration of transcendental functions, polar coordinates, specialized methods of integration, parametric equations, and infinite series. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate proficiency in evaluating integrals using various techniques of integration. 2. Determine convergence/divergence of sequences and series. Spring 2017 Calendar: Last day to ADD full term (16-week) classes in person: Thursday, February 16 Last day to drop without receiving a W (Online Only): Monday, February 20* Last day to drop with a W (Online Only): Sunday, May 7 Final Exam: Thursday, June 1, 4:00-6:00pm *PLEASE NOTE: A W will appear on your transcript record after this date. REMINDER: Course repetition is regulated by state guidelines, limiting students to a maximum of three (3) enrollments in a course, to include both substandard grades and withdrawals, unless otherwise specified in the course description. Course Organization: Math 266 course is composed of video lectures, discussions, assignments, quizzes, three in-class tests, and a comprehensive final exam. It is students responsibility to complete all course components by the required due dates. The course will follow the attached schedule as closely as possible. Students are expected to spend about hours per week to study the online learning materials and to complete all assignments. Some students may need more time to do well in the course. ONLINE Assignments and Quizzes through MyMathLab: Testing: Students enrolled in Math 266 are required to register with MyMathLab online program and enroll in the course connected to Canvas. Online Homework, quizzes, practice exams, and all other learning materials will be assigned online through this system. Assistance in registering/purchasing the access code will be available during orientation. Students are expected to finish their online homework assignments by the due dates. A 25% deduction per day will be implemented for late submission for homework assignments. Since MyMathLab does not grade each step of a student's work, it is important that students write down their solving steps clearly on a notebook in order to identify mistakes. Students are allowed to take the online quizzes up to 3 times before the due date. The highest quiz score from all attempts will be recorded. However, no extensions will be granted for online quizzes. There will be three tests throughout the semester. There will be no make-up test and any missed test will receive a grade of 0. A comprehensive final exam will be given on Thursday, June 1, There are no make-ups for the final exam. If the final exam score is higher than the lowest score of the classroom exams, it will be used to replace the lowest exam score. All tests and final exam will be based on examples demonstrated in video lectures, assigned homework and quizzes. All work must be shown in a logical manner with easy to follow steps to support any written responses for credits. A stand alone scientific calculator is allowed on all tests. Students are not allowed to use notes during tests and final. Cell phones and all electronic devices must be turned off or on silent mode and kept out-of-sight during all tests and final exam. For all tests including the final, in-person review sessions will be offered to help students be better prepared. These review meetings are optional, but students are strongly encouraged to attend. Grading Percentage Distribution Assigned Grade Online Discussion 3% % A Online Homework 12% 80-89% B Online Quizzes 10% 70-79% C Tests 48% 60-69% D Final 27% Below 60% F For borderline cases, level of improvement on the final is considered.

3 Attendance Regular completion of online assignments and checking s are expected from online students. Unlike most other courses, missing just one or two assignments will immediately place you at a disadvantage because there is a continuation of thought from assignment to assignment. Absences of participation for online assignments for more than two weeks may result in excluding students from class. Students themselves are responsible for dropping a class they no longer attend; failure to do so may result in a grade of F. Withdrawals: If you stop attending the class (or wish to drop a class), you must drop the class yourself officially on or before May 7, 2017 (by internet only). Failure to do so may result in a grade of F in the class. A new state policy in effect as of 2012 limits students to three attempts per course. Receiving a grade or a "W" for a course counts as an attempt, regardless of when the course was taken. Withdrawal by the deadline to avoid a "W" will not count as an attempt. For Spring 2017, the deadline to avoid a W is Sunday, February 20, Tools: A scientific calculator is required. Graphing calculators, cell phones, and other forms of hand held computers are not allowed during in-class tests and final. Cheating: Any form of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. If caught, you will be given a zero for that particular exam. The event will be reported to the Math Department Chair who will forward the report to the VP of student services for disciplinary action, which may include suspension or expulsion. This is addressed specifically on pages 62 and 64 of the Los Angeles Mission Catalog under Standards of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Action violation Dishonesty: Dishonesty, such as cheating or knowingly furnishing false information to colleges. Student Conduct Students are expected to adhere to all school policies, and to abide by the standards of student conduct as described in the Los Angeles Mission College Catalog on page 62 to 64. Any infringement upon the rights of other students in the class, such as talking or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Tutoring and Support: Free tutoring is available in the STEM Center Lab located in CMS 121 or the Math Lab located in the Learning Resource Center (Library building), Room 215. For more information of the STEM Center Lab, call (818) or visit For more information of the Math Lab, call (818) or visit Accommodations for DSPS students: LAMC students with verified disabilities who are requesting academic accommodations should use the following procedure: Step 1: Obtain documentation of your disability from a licensed professional. You may contact DSPS to request a Disability Verification Form. Step 2: Make an appointment to meet with a DSPS Specialist to review your documentation and discuss reasonable accommodations. To schedule a meeting, please call DSPS at (818) Step 3: Bring your disability documentation to your DSPS appointment. The DSPS office is located in room 1018 of the Instructional Building. Step 4: Each semester, reach written accommodation agreement with the DSPS Specialist and your instructor. To be most effective, students should complete this process by the end of the 3rd week of the semester. Tests with required accommodations must be taken at the DSPS office. Study the textbook: The textbook provides a reasonable level of mathematical rigor and many exercises are quite reveling. I strongly encourage you to read/study the text carefully. The video lectures are designed as a supplement to and not an alternative for the textbook. Students are expected to master all topics in the textbook unless otherwise indicated.
