Course Description Prerequisites Course Outcomes Course Materials Grading Criteria s Course Description Explores the impact of the computer culture on human communication. Identifies how the computer culture has changed communication norms, expectations, and language. Practices key competencies associated with communication interaction, including interpersonal, organizational and conflict communication. Prerequisites None. Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to: Identify the elements of a healthy online communication environment. Explain the impact that perception has on receiving and sending messages. Use the nonverbal languages of the online modality to effectively communicate. Demonstrate the relational and content components of messages.

2 Design messages that are confirming, ethnorelative, and problem-focused. Students are expected to complete assignments prior to class and to contribute their understanding of the materials to class discussion and activities. Logging into the course along alone does not equate with participation. Participation is evaluated on positive contributions to the functioning of the class in accomplishing its assigned tasks. You can expect to receive a B for class participation if you complete participation as required each week within the minimum requirements. You will receive an A for participation if you don't miss any opportunities for participation and submit thoughtful answers which demonstrate understanding of the readings and assignments, and constructively participate in class activities. The following assignments and activities will serve as the basis for evaluating your performance in the course. your final grade will be based on a percentage of 200 points, as follows: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, 59-below F.
