2 Overview About Material Advantage Student Chapter at Suez University (MA SC SU) was founded in 2015 to be the first chapter representing MA program in Egypt. At our university, students enter engineering departments based on their grades in the first academic year so the majority of students enter Materials Science & Engineering Department without a real desire or a complete knowledge about this department resulting in many problems in their career life to the extent that some of them make career shift. For this reason, the foundation of MA SC SU was necessary to start A Year of Empowerment during which the chapter truly managed to transit students from this weak point to the top of their career. Goals MA SC SU has a long term vision based on building a real brand among all students in Egypt Preparing students for entering the workforce by supporting them in the following areas: * Technical Skills * Career Development * Soft Skills Connect students with the international benefits introduced by our partner societies. Achieving widespread outreach to reach other universities in Egypt and High School Students. Making the chapter involved in the community through social events or community service. As the founding Editor in Chief of JUMR, I can appreciate the effort that goes into the creation of a new publication, and Spectrum exudes professionalism from Issue 1.I hope to see this publication made available to all Material Advantage chapters. For Issue 2, I can envision content provided by members of other student chapters as its sphere of influence continues to grow. It is great to see an international chapter making the most of Material Advantage, and I hope to see some of you at MS&T 16. Material Advantage Committee Chair Ben Poquette, PhD

6 MA School Attendees:65 students Number of Workshops: 6 workshops (One workshop each 2 weeks for 2 hours) In our department, students always find Materials Science a difficult subject to understand but at the same time it represents the main base of our career so MA SC SU started a series of workshops under the name of MA School. The school was conducted to help students with all difficulties faced them during their study of Materials Science. Subjects for workshops were chosen through uploading a simple survey made by MA SC SU each week to know what students want the workshop to be about. Speakers for workshops were department professors, teaching assistants or students in their last academic year. Workshops had a great impact at students which will make us put the school as a priority in our activities next year after this great success. As a primary goal of MA SC SU is to get students closer to the available career opportunities in the job market, the chapter invited 45 students to experience a unique workshop in one of the leading companies in Ceramic Industry in Egypt. 11 Save Humanity Campaign Child Homelessness is a serious problem in our community today. Children, who find themselves suddenly sleeping in streets without any protection, cover against cold or rainfall or even a helping hand, can be victims of exploitation for robbery, begging or Harassment. MA SC SU started a campaign against this serious phenomenon under the name of "Save Humanity, Save Homeless Children" to make our voice reach all Child rights organizations. Our campaign started online on social networks with many posts on Facebook to show the suffering of children in streets then offline campaigns with more than 30 volunteers of MA SC SU wearing t shirts holding the slogan of our campaign to raise the awareness of people by this problem. Campus Day Number of Volunteers: 32 Donated Hours: 4 Hours In our university, there was an abandoned garden which was full of unused wood, old chairs and many dead plants. MA SC SU launched an invitation for all students in the chapter to organize a day to make life return to this garden again and with more than 4 hours of hard work, volunteers were successful to make the garden beautiful again and now many students make small meetings in this garden taking fabulous photos or eating meals.
12 NAQAA Project In Egypt, 85% of water usage depends mainly on Nile River which has different forms of pollution because of throwing industrial wastes and the weakness of water treatment stations which cause a lot of serious diseases like malignant tumors of the kidneys, liver and bladder so many of people depend on strong water filters now to avoid or decrease the pollution in water to some extent These filters solve the problem to some extent but only for those who have the ability to buy these expensive filters but for very poor people who hardly secure their daily food can't buy them. MA SC SU has started a new project under the name of "NAQAA" which means "Purity" in English aims at providing the safest and best affordable water treatment for all Egyptians. The project is simply a filter consists of two containers, the upper container for collecting all impurities in water and the lower container for treated water. Containers are made of food grade plastic which equipped in the middle by a filter candle which is nearly 12 cm in height and 6 cm in width, the candle is made of porous ceramic, colloidal silver to kill Bactria and fungi in water to keep water clean and activated carbon in the core to improve taste of water by removing all strange chemicals. Goals from the project: 1 Providing poor people with affordable and safe water 2 Achieving bacterial removal by 99.9% 3 Good Productivity with 2 3 liters per hour 4 Economic product (Price< 20 USD) In Egypt, there are many organizations which support start up and entrepreneurship like INJAZ Egypt as a leading organization in this filed. INJAZ Egypt organizes this year a competition called Company Program in which 30 teams compete for 16 weeks until managing to make all necessary things regarding their start up, they support us with kits, mentors and all needed things to have a great atmosphere of work.
