What is ICT? ICT is short for Information and Communication Technology and refers to a range of electronic tools for storing, displaying, and exchanging information and for communicating. More than Computers!!! It is crucial to understand that ICT refers to much more than simply computers and the Internet. ICT includes devices, services, and technologies such as: Radio, Television, Videos, DVDs, Telephone, Satellite System, Video Conferencing, etc.

Access Community Linkages Planning & Management Efficiency Potential Of Learning ICTs Lifelong Learning Teaching Skill Formation

Why Integrate ICT in Education? Developments in ICT have changed the world dramatically, bringing about significant changes in society and in labor markets. ICT has changed the ways people live and work and the ways people communicate with one another. Countries that are using ICT extensively have become knowledge societies, societies that are reliant on creating, sharing, and using electronically communicated knowledge for their prosperity.

School 2.0 School 2.0 goes beyond the practical discussion of applying the read/write and collaborative Web technologies in the classroom. It is, instead, a larger discussions of how education, learning, and our physical school spaces can (or should) change because of the changing nature of our social and economic lives brought on by these technologies.

Tools for Education Recognizing that ICT tools make information exchange easier, faster and cheaper, it has become clear that ICT tools offer a range of benefits for education. In particular, ICT tools offer the potential to make education more accessible, improve the quality of education, and provide and effective and efficient management tool.

Accessible Education When used effectively, ICT can make education more accessible by: Improving access to information Enabling greater access to education Providing affordable anywhere, anytime learning Sustaining lifelong learning

Accessible Education When used effectively, ICT can make education more accessible by: Improving access to information Enabling greater access to education Providing affordable anywhere, anytime learning Sustaining lifelong learning

Microsoft is a free suite of hosted Microsoft services and applications that are intended for educational needs. The program provides education institutions with a set of hosted collaboration services, communication tools, and mobile, desktop, and web-based applications, as well as data storage capabilities. The suite includes Microsoft applications for collaboration including: Office Live Workspace, Windows Live SkyDrive, Windows Live Spaces, Microsoft SharedView Beta, Microsoft Outlook Live, Windows Live Messenger, and Windows Live Alerts. The suite is part of Microsoft Education Solutions.

Cloud computing refers to the provision of computational resources on demand via a computer network. In the traditional model of computing, both data and software are fully contained on the user's computer. In cloud computing, the user's computer may contain almost no software or data (perhaps a minimal operating system and web browser only), serving as little more than a display terminal for processes occurring on a network of computers far away.

Stages of Integrating ICT into Education Learning institutions are under pressure to prepare students for the changing face of society and the workplace, forcing the issue of integrating ICT into education. Institutions are at differing stages in the process. The issues and challenges that face policy and decision makers may vary according to the progress made.

Challenges in Integrating ICT into Education Despite the numerous potential benefits of ICT for education, there are many varied issues and challenges that countries, systems, and schools face when integrating ICT in education. Overarching all of them is the need for a national policy for ICT in education. Too often countries embark on ICT projects without clear policy directions, with the result that development is often piecemeal.

Challenges: Capability and Connectivity The key issues and challenges facing decision-makers may be conveniently divided into two groups. The first set relates to capability and connectivity. Included under capability and connectivity are: ICT infrastructure Total cost of ICT tools Technical support Professional development of teachers

Challenges: Access, Content, and Curriculum The second set of key issues and challenges relates to access, content, and curriculum. Items that fall under this category include access and equity, teaching and learning resources, language and culture, and curriculum development.

From Potential to Effectiveness Educational Policy Approach to ICTs Infrastructure ICT-Enhanced Content Committed and Trained Personnel 6. Financial Resources 7. Integration 8. Piloting and Evaluation

Where are good resources? It is useful to know about successful and innovative projects involving the use of ICT in education. There are many resources available to help you achieve your goals. 42 We do not think anymore of the spectacle of printing every time we read a book, the phenomenon of TV every time we watch a movie, or the miracle of the telephone every time we make a call. The ultimate success of ICTs for learning will be attained when we stop marveling about the ICTs and apply our minds and emotions to the wonders of learning.
