2 What does it mean to be a dual credit student? Dual enrollment simply means: A student is still in high school and enrolled in a college-level class at the same time; the coursework meets high school graduation requirements and college credit is earned.

The student should always verify with their university/college of choice which Dual Credit classes will transfer to that university/college. 7 College Placement Tests Score Requirements for LSC and WCJC Students must show college readiness in reading, writing, and/or math as applicable to the course(s) the student plans to take. All students in Texas public colleges are required to demonstrate college readiness through the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), which is a state program designed to promote student success by assessing students' academic skills through the TSI Assessment (TSIA). Students may either take the TSIA or show scores from other accepted assessments approved for placement. Approved assessments are the TSIA, ACT, SAT, and STAAR.

17 College Algebra College Algebra will not replace the Algebra 2 course for high school credit. It will count as a High School math credit and Algebra 2 must be taken as a prerequisite for College Algebra.

18 Online vs. On-Campus Online courses will be set in a classroom environment, 5 days a week, and facilitated by a LCISD teacher that is certified in that content area. The online course will be with a LSC professor but the GRHS teacher will facilitate the classroom here on campus and offer additional support for the students.

34 Frequently Asked Questions

35 How do Dual Credit classes impact athletic eligibility? According to UIL rules, dual credit courses are held to the same standards as any other high school course and are eligible for UIL district waivers. One per six weeks per course per year may be used.

36 How many grades are issued in a Dual Credit Course? Dual credit courses are actual college courses and therefore follow the traditional college requirements for grades issued to students. As a result, students should expect a midterm grade and a final grade. It is at the discretion of the dual credit instructor to issue additional grades to students. Students that are seeking UIL eligibility will have to present grades at each district grading period (progress reports and six weeks).

37 Do dual credit courses affect college GPA? High schools may award weighted grades for Dual Credit courses. The weighted grade affects the high school GPA but not the college GPA. Dual courses are weighted with a multiplier of 1.2 (the only exception is current juniors taking Eco/Govt this summer or their senior year. They will receive a multiplier of 1.1)

38 What is the difference between WCJC and LSC? Both colleges are accredited by the same organization and offer a two year degree plan or courses that transfer to most public universities in the state of Texas.

39 Why are the classes 5 days a week? The 5 days allows our students to meet the 3 or 4 hour a week requirement for the course as well as time to help support their academic needs in a college level course.

40 Can any Dual Credit be taken at other colleges? All core content classes will be taken through Lone Star College, WCJC offers 3 CTE courses and TSTC offers their 5 career pathway classes. No outside dual credit will be expected towards the high school graduation requirement set by LCISD.

41 Can a course be repeated to earn Dual Credit? A course can NOT be repeated if a high school credit has already been earned for the course.

42 Dual Credit Grading Policy College Grading All colleges use a grading system in which students are assigned a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F reflecting the student s performance in a course. Each grade will be recorded on the student s college transcript at the end of the semester. Reminder: ALL college grades will remain on your transcript LCISD Grade Points The student's high school grade for the course will be reported on his/her high school report card each grading period as a numeric value. The final grade from the college will be the numeric value on their high school transcript.

43 FERPA FERPA is a federal law that governs privacy of and access to personally identifiable student records. Instructors will only communicate with the student about their grade status and not the parent. Parents should communicate with their student about academic progress.
