4 Words of Welcome... Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA) Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA) On behalf of the Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA) and the Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA) we would like to give you a very warm welcome to the 11th Hanover PreMoot. For three days, Hanover will become Vindobona, Danubia. We are proud to organize and host this event, which has become a wellestablished tradition since its first edition in This year, the PreMoot is going into its 11th anniversary. At the beginning, only five Teams followed our invitation. Nowadays, with 28 participating Teams the Hanover PreMoot is among the largest PreMoots in Europe. Nevertheless, we hope that this event will still provide you with the honest hospitality in a familylike atmosphere it is known for. Moreover, we are sure that our PreMoot will serve you with a combination of an academic and intellectual challenge where you can improve strategic thinking and experience law in a crosscultural atmosphere. For the sixth time we are hosting an international PreMoot conference as a warm up for arbitrators, coaches, and teammembers. We are very proud and thankful that we can present an outstanding panel of internationally well recognized practitioners. Our special thanks go to: Erika Levin, Dr. Rouven Bodenheimer, Hon.Prof. Dr. Irene Welser, Dr. Charlotte DobersKoch, Jan Heiko Köhlbrandt, Axel Benjamin Herzberg and Viktor v. Essen. Many thanks also to all the people, who devote themselves voluntarily to the great Willem C. Vis Moot Community serving as arbitrators here in Hanover. In each pleading, the Mooties will find a tribunal composed of high ranking practitioners, coaches and former Mooties. The Willem C. Vis Moot is designed to be an educational program with many facets of real legal profession in the form of a competition. Hopefully, this PreMoot will similarly be an educational and beneficial experience for everyone. Therefore, all teammembers and coaches are encouraged to see other pleadings when they are not scheduled to argue or to arbitrate (and if it is not forbidden by the rules of the Willem C. Vis Moot).

5 We hope that the days events will not only allow Teams to further refine their arguments and oral presentation, but also to get in contact with each other. One will especially have the opportunity to socialize during the evening reception at the Erdgeschoss on Thursday night and the dinner on Friday night. This year, we were still able to organize the PreMoot, including the social events, without charging any participation fee. This is only possible because the Mooties and the former Mooties of the Hanover Team understand the PreMoot as a personal invitation for friends with homemade cake and sandwiches. Additionally, the Soldan Foundation, CMS Hasche Sigle, BRANDI Rechtsanwälte, Kniprath Lopez, BODENHEIMER HERZBERG, Dr. Krafczyk und Partner, Andreas Reiner & Partners and Skadden make the social events possible. We hope you enjoy your stay. Without the dedication and commitment of the staff of the Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (especially Nassim Eslami, Lissa Gerking and Niels Kurth) the PreMoot could not have taken place. They all deserve our deepest gratitude! May the Hanover PreMoot be a harold for the spirit of the Willem C. Vis Moot in Hong Kong and Vienna. It is a great privilege for us to have you all here in Hanover! Professor Dr. Christian Wolf For the Institute for Procedural Law and Attoney Regulations (IPA) Sven Hasenstab For the Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA)

7 About... Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA) Hannoverscher Ehemaligenverein des Willem C. Moot Wettbewerbs e.v. The Hanover Vis Alumni Association e.v. is a forum for former and current participants of the Willem C. Vis Moot Court and the Willem C. Vis (East) Moot Court to unite and network. It shall serve as a platform for exchanging experience and knowledge. Another major aspect for the Hanover Vis Alumni Association is the ideal and financial support for the current Vis Moot Team. The participation in the Willem C. Vis is a unique chance for every student but also a challenge. Being aware of that, the Hanover Vis Alumni Association tries to forward experiences from former teammembers, having started their career out in the world already, to the next generation of Mooties. Moreover, we are supporting the Hanover PreMoot by acting as arbitrators and by organizing pleadings in law firms. We appreciated that for our former participation in the Willem C. Vis only personal qualification was decisive but not any personal financial aspects. Together with the sponsors of the Willem C. Vis we regard it as our duty to help the next generation of participants to keep it like that. For more information about the HVAA visit our website 7

70 11 th 10Hanover PreMoot Dear guests of the 11th Hanover PreMoot, we hope you enjoyed your stay in Hanover. The PreMootCrew gave its best to make your stay as great and comfortable as possible. In particular, we are proud that we managed to offer you this experience as one of the few remaining PreMoots not charging any registration fee. Unfortunately, we are afraid that we cannot comply with our goal to offer you an intellectual challenge in a crosscultural and familylike atmosphere in the following years without charging a participation fee. During the course of the past eleven years, the Hanover PreMoot grew from five teams in 2007 to 28 teams this year. In each and every year, we were able to provide all guests with handmadesandwiches and handmadecake, coffee, tea and wine. Along with the number of teams, also the costs to provide these services grew. Since we are not willing to give up these services, we have to ask you for your support. Therefore, unless we find a main sponsor, we have to charge a participation fee for the 12th Hanover PreMoot. Simultaneously, we are developing a system to enable teams with less funding to participate in following Hanover PreMoots. Although there are no definite plans yet as to how to achieve this intent, we hope that it is the solution to uphold our values and experience further PreMoots together. It was a great privilege to have you in Hanover and we hope to see each of you next year again! Dr. Nassim Eslami Lissa Gerking Niels Kurth
