4 SPECIAL NOTICES, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Textbooks ECU operates Dowdy Studet Stores as a meas for studets to purchase or RENT their textbooks. Computers, supplies, ECU apparel & gifts are also available. The Medical Bookstore o west campus, a brach of Dowdy Studet Stores, serves the BSOM with specialized textbooks & merchadise. Store profits are give back to studets via scholarships. Registratio Admitted studets who are ot registered must secure a registratio form or a registratio PIN from their advisor, register, ad the pay fees. The registratio PIN is used for o lie registratio through Baer Self Service. Udergraduate studets who have ot bee fully admitted must be cleared by the Admissios Office, secure a registratio form or registratio PIN from their advisor, register, ad the pay fees. Graduate studets ot fully admitted must be cleared by the Graduate Admissios Office, register, ad the pay fees. Readmitted studets must be officially admitted by the Udergraduate Admissios Office, secure a registratio form or registratio PIN from their advisor, register, ad the pay fees. STUDENTS ARE NOT OFFICIALLY ENROLLED UNTIL FEES ARE PAID. Drop-Add (Chage) 1. A schedule chage period will be scheduled at the begiig of each semester. A studet may drop-add with the approval of their advisor. The studet must secure the sigature of his or her advisor o the schedule chage form ad take it to the appropriate termial operator for keyig. Durig the first 5 (five) class days studets may drop/add olie through Baer Self Service with the registratio PIN received from their advisor. Schedule chage policies for graduate studets will remai the same as i the past. (See graduate catalog.) 2. Studets addig courses resultig i a higher block of hours will be charged at the rate of the block for which they are officially registered upo the completio of their registratio. ALL FEES MUST BE PAID TO CONFIRM REGISTRATION/CLASS SCHEDULE. To officially withdraw from the Uiversity, a studet must give writte otice to the Office of the Registrar. Refud Policy It is to the fiacial advatage of all studets withdrawig or droppig classes to do so as early i the semester as possible. Refuds for tuitio ad required fees (excludig room ad board charges which are determied by cotractual agreemet ad the Studet Health Isurace Pla) will be made as follows for studets who withdraw or drop to a lower block of credit hours: August 20 August 26, 2013 (first five cosecutive class days startig with the first official day of classes for the Uiversity) tuitio ad required fees will be refuded at 100%. August 27 September 3, 2013 (6-10 cosecutive class days) tuitio ad required fees will be refuded at 75% mius a $25 o-refudable processig fee; September 4 September 10, 2013 (11-15 cosecutive class days) tuitio ad required fees will be refuded at 50% mius a $25 o-refudable processig fee; September 11 September 17, 2013 (16-20 cosecutive class days) tuitio ad required fees will be refuded at 25% mius a $25 o-refudable processig fee; Begiig September 18, 2013 (21st cosecutive class day) refuds will ot be cosidered. If a studet wishes to appeal, the process must be iitiated i writig to the Tuitio Refud Appeals Committee. All refuds will be subject to the above oted time limitatios ad will be based o the differece betwee the amout paid ad the charge for the block of hours for which the studet is officially registered. POLICY EXCEPTION: Special Course Fees: No refuds available after the first five (5) class days startig with the first official day of classes for the Uiversity. Studet Health Isurace: No refuds available after the first te (10) class days startig with the first official day of classes for the Uiversity. No refuds are available after September 10, Drops ad withdrawals may impact a studet s fiacial aid awards resultig i reductios to existig aid awards. 5 Residece Classificatio Notice to Studets Your curret residece classificatio, for purposes of applicable tuitio rates, is required to be chaged if, sice origial establishmet of your curret classificatio, your state of legal residece has chaged. (1) If you curretly are classified as a o-residet for tuitio purposes, it is your right to petitio for a chage i classificatio to that of residet if you claim that you are ow ad, for at least the 12-moth period immediately precedig the date of such petitio, have bee a legal residet for tuitio purposes of North Carolia. If it is determied that i fact you have bee a legal residet for the required 12-moth period, the effective date of chage i applicable tuitio rates shall be the begiig of the academic term ext followig the date of applicatio for tuitio chage, provided, that a chage i billig rate may be made retroactive to the begiig of a academic term durig which applicatio was made if the 12-moth period is foud to have bee satisfied i the begiig of that term. (2) If you curretly are classified as a residet for tuitio purposes, it is your obligatio to petitio for a chage i classificatio to that of a oresidet if you have reasoable basis for believig that chage i facts requires such a chage i classificatio. Failure to fulfill this obligatio may result i appropriate discipliary actio icludig, but ot ecessarily limited to, cacellatio of erollmet. If it is determied that i fact you have become a o-residet, the effective date of chage i applicable tuitio rates shall be the ext semester or term followig the date of chage i facts which required the chage i classificatio, uless you are eligible to cotiue payig the residet rate for the 12-moth grace period. Tuitio paymets ad other required studet fees meet oly a part of the total cost of the educatio of studets erolled. O average, for each full-time studet erolled i a istitutio of The Uiversity of North Carolia, the State of North Carolia appropriated $11,738 per year i public fuds to support the educatioal programs offered. The Uiversity of North Carolia Board of Goverors adopted a Pla to make tuitio ad fee rates for udergraduate North Caroliias predictable ad affordable. Pursuat to the Pla, the maximum rate of aual icrease for udergraduate residets for campus-iitiated tuitio is 6.5% ad the icrease i geeral fees (Athletics, Health Services, Studet Activities, ad Educatioal ad Techology Fees) is 6.5%. Exceptios to the Pla were allowed to help address academic quality, to partially remedy the cumulative egative impact of several years of state budget reductios, ad to help the Uiversity protect the quality of a UNC educatio. Specific iformatio, icludig maximum allowable icreases i tuitio ad fees per academic year by UNC campuses is available at G.S (7) requires that the Board of Goverors set tuitio ad required fees at the istitutios, ot icosistet with the actios of the Geeral Assembly. Tuitio ad fee rates icluded i this bill were approved by the Board of Goverors i February The tuitio icreases approved for of $201 per residet udergraduate studet, $500 per oresidet udergraduate studet, $214 per residet graduate studet ad $700 per oresidet graduate studet will geerate $6,032,328 i additioal reveue. Those fuds will be used for eed ad merit fiacial aid, faculty ad academic support, studet services, ifrastructure, ad operatioal support.
