1 Dr. AMBEDKAR COLLEGE OF EDUCATION West of chord Road, Jayachamarajanagar, Bangalore Phone No Annual Quality Assurance Report for the Year: ( Date of Commencement of Academic Year 27/03/2006 Last working Day of the academic Year 10/03/2007 ) Part A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell met on 20/03/2006 in the Chambers of the Principal to chalk out plan of Action for the academic year The I Q A C discussed at length various activities to be organized in addition to the Calendar of Events framed by the college regarding curriculum of B.Ed course. 1. To organize an essay writing competition under the auspices of Forum for Dr.Ambedkar s Thought for the students of B.Ed Colleges functioning under Bangalore University. 2. Celebration of Dr.Ambedkar s Jayanthi on 14/04/2006 and to award three prizes. 3. To celebrate Silver Jubilee function in the month of October On this occasion to organize One day Seminar. 4. To enhance facilities in the Educational Technology Cell by spending Rs.1,00,000/- 5. To enrich library by purchasing books worth about Rs.40,000/- 6. To undertake collaborative research programmes with N C E R T, U.G.C, NAAC, Bangalore University, Bangalore. 7. To impart training to all teachers in use of Computers.

2 8. To depute Librarian and other non-teaching staff for professional development programmes. 9. To motivate faculty members to take up research in education. 10. To establish good network with Community and Practice teaching schools. 11. To develop cognitive and life skills among students by organizing Quiz competition, debates, impromptu speech competition, Talents Day and inter-collegiate programme. The institution was successful in organizing essay writing competition under the auspices of Forum for Dr.Ambedkar s Thought. Thirty students from various colleges participated and three prizes were awarded on 14/04/2006 on the occasion of Dr.Ambedkar s Jayanthi Celebration. The institution organized one day seminar on 9/10/2006 on Excellence in Teacher Education for the Teacher Educators of Bangalore University on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the college. Silver Jubilee Celebrations were held on 9 th and 10 th October 2006 and a Souvenir was also released. The institution has upgraded the facilities of educational technology cell by purchasing two multimedia computers, one Sony handy cam and one Phil galaxy OHP by spending Rs.93,848/- The institution purchased 290 books worth Rs.39,000/- during the year. All the teachers were trained in the use of Computers. Non-teaching staff were also taught to make use of Kannada software Baraha and Sreelipi. The librarian Sri.V.G.Manashetty was deputed by the institution to attend four days National Seminar on best practices in library and information

3 services held at Bangalore university, Bangalore from 9/8/2006 to 12/08/2006. Along with the above achievements, the curricular activities were also conducted as per the Calendar of Bangalore University, resulting in achieving 99% of passes in the examination. All the students passed the examination in distinction. Part B: 1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: The Academic Year commenced on 27/03/2006 with two days Induction Programme. The institution drafted and issued the Calendar of Events for the year. On the first day instructions were given to students about the ethics of the college, discipline, working hours, Library facilities etc. Syllabus copies and Identity cards were also distributed. Everyday at 10.15a.m morning prayer Buddha Vandana and National Anthem were sung by the staff and the students. News reading session in English and Kannada by students on rotation basis was held everyday. The Inaugural Function of the course and inauguration of cultural activities was officially held on 3/4/2006. On 4/4/2006 under the auspices of Forum for Dr.Ambedkar s Thought an Essay Writing Competition was organized on a topic Dr.B.R.Ambedkar as a man of World Talents day was held on 10/4/2006. All the students exhibited their talents. On 14/4/2006 Dr.Ambedkar Jayanthi was celebrated and on this occasion prizes were awarded to the best three essays. The Subject Club Activities of Social Science, Science and Language were inaugurated on 15/4/2006. In the coming weeks every Thursday from 3.30p.m to 5.00p.m students of different clubs conducted several activities. Parent-Teachers Meeting

4 was convened on 22/04/2006. Certain important issues related to college were discussed. Students of CCM History and Civics brought out History Wall News Paper once in fifteen days by collecting news items from magazine and news papers. Students of CCM Kannada brought out Prathibha Sinchana fortnightly Kannada Wall Paper. On 21/7/2006 Founders Day was celebrated as it happens to be the Birthday of our Founder Chairman Sri. Mallikarjun M. Kharge. On this occasion Medical Checkup was organized for the public and students of our college. The Founder Chairman felicitated Kum.Manasaprasad. M & Smt. Roopa D rank holders. The college Magazine Sangha Mithra was also released on this occasion. On 3/8/2006 Impromptu Speech Competition was organized to our students. On 10/8/2006 a debate competition was conducted on the topic Science is the Curse for the development of the Society by Science Club. On 15/8/2006 Independence Day was celebrated. On 21/8/2006 the Alumni Association organized a Revolutionary Songs Competition. The Alumni Meet concluded the same day with election of new office bearers and chalking out development programmes for the ensuing academic year. On the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations One Day State Level Seminar on Excellence in Education was held on 9/10/2006 at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Bangalore University, Central College Campus. Minister for Higher Education of Govt. of Karnataka Sri. D.H. Shankar Murthy Inaugurated the function. The Valedictory function of the Silver Jubilee was held on 10/10/2006. On this occasion all the retired employees of our institution were felicitated. Heads of Practice-in-teaching schools and Meritorious students were also felicitated. Existing Members of Staff were also felicitated with a Silver Plaque. Dr.Siddalingaiah eminent poet and Dr.M.Khajapeer former Vice-Chancellor of

5 Karnataka University, Registrar of Bangalore University were also felicitated. The institution also felicitated the Members of Governing Body and The General Secretary. In the evening Alumni Members organized a Cultural Programme. Parents of our students attended the programme and appreciated the efforts of the institution. On 1/11/2006 Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated. The Valedictory of B.Ed course was held on 10/3/2007. Other academic activities of Bangalore University B.Ed course were carried on as per Calendar of Events of Bangalore University, Bangalore. 2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG): Nil 3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: Dr. Ambedkar College of Education is affiliated to Bangalore University, recognized by N.C.T.E., implements the Curriculum and other guidelines prescribed by the Bangalore university. The Principal and members of faculty have played major role in designing the B.Ed Semester Curriculum. Dr. A Somashekaramurthy, Principal was a Member of Syndicate, Member of Board of Studies, member of Syllabus Review Committee, Chairman of Board of Examination and was instrumental in re-designing Qualitative Semester B.Ed Curriculum. The feedback obtained from Employers, Academic Experts, Teachers, Students and Alumni was communicated to the Board of Studies while revising the Semester B.Ed. Curriculum with effect from The Members of Faculty used O.H.P. Transparencies and slide projector in all their Lectures to enhance learning experiences of students. Students were encouraged to present their seminar papers using O.H.P. Transparencies. Staff and students used the internet facility throughout the year to enhance their

6 knowledge and skills, prepared Power Point Presentations in I C T. Practical training was imparted to all students in Information and Communication Technology. 4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started: Nil 5. Examination reforms implemented: Nil 6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc. Four students of our Institution have qualified for Karnataka Education Service and 11 students of our institution have passed the Common Entrance Test for recruitment of teachers to Govt. High schools in Karnataka.. 7. Initiative towards faculty development programme : The institution encouraged teachers to attend seminars, workshops and undertake paper publications. Three members of faculty were recognized as Research Guides under Bangalore university. Two Members of Faculty registered for Ph.D in Education. 8. Total number of seminars/workshops conducted: One A Seminar was conducted on Excellence in Teacher Education on 9 th October 2006 for Teacher Educators of Bangalore University, Bangalore. 9. Research projects a) Newly implemented: Dr.A.Somashekara Murthy, Principal was sanctioned a research project Factors Associated with Participation and Consequences of Education of SC Children in Karnataka- An Analytical Study Sponsored by N C E R T New Delhi.

Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback: Assessment of teachers by students has been in vogue in our institution since Every year we collect the feedback of students in the proforma designed by ourselves at the end of academic year. In the staff meeting the Principal summarizes the feedback given by the students and offered suggestions to teachers for their improvement. This has resulted in improving the quality of instruction, result and also human relations. 24. Unit cost of education: Excluding Salary Component Rs Including Salary Component Rs Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificates: The institution has not yet computerized the administration and process of admission. However the college website contains all necessary information regarding the process of admission to B.Ed. course. Examination results were made available on the internet by the Bangalore University. 26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities: -NIL- 27. Technology up gradation:

11 The institution purchased Sony Handy-cam, One Phil Galaxy O.H.P., Two Multimedia Computers by spending Rs.93,848/- The purchase of these helped in enhancing Communication technology Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students: All the B.Ed teachers and students were exposed to computer and internet access in the Computer Room. Students were grouped into different batches and were assigned time slots for practice as per the time-table from 9.00a.m to 10.15a.m and 4.30p.m to 5.30p.m everyday. Use of M S Office Package, , internet surfing and power point presentation were taught Financial aid to students: Twenty-two SC/ST students have received a total of Rs.1,48,600/- as Financial Aid in the form of Scholarship from Govt. of Karnataka. One Physically Challenged Student also received Rs.2500/- as Financial Aid from Govt. of Karnataka. 30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association: The Alumni Association Meet was held on 28/6/2006 and it was decided to arrange a Revolutionary Songs Competition for B.Ed students of Bangalore University. The Alumni Association also organized a Guest Lecture on Dr. K.R.Narayanan Memorial Lecture by Dr. K.M. Hanumantharayappa, Principal & Dean, Department of Law, Bangalore University on 21/12/ Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:

12 Members of the Parent-Teachers Association participated in all the functions organized by the college On 22/4/2006 the Parents Meet was convened. 32. Health services: On 4/5/2006 the institution organized Free Health Checkup Camp for B.Ed students. On 21/7/2006 a Free Health Checkup Camp for General Public of the Community was arranged on the occasion of the Founders Day. 33. Performance in sports activities: The students of our institution won a Sri. B.S. Paramashivaiah Rolling Shield for Volley Ball Competition held at Sarvajna College of Education, Vijayanagar, Bangalore. All the students participated in Volley Ball, Throw Ball, Tenni-coit and Indoor Games Competitions during Community Living Camp and on other occasions. 34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons: Nil 35. Student achievements and awards: Kum. Manasa Prasad. M scored highest marks 84.35% in B.Ed Examination and was awarded a cash prize and a certificate by the Alumni Association. Smt. Roopa D was also honored by the institution. 36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit: Under the Guidance and Counseling Cell the following activities were organized 1) Orientation talk regarding utilization of Library services, Laboratories on 29/04/2006 by Prof. T.Syed Mustaq Ahmed.

13 2) A talk on hobbies by Smt.Suparna, Headmistress, MahilaVidyalayahigh school,sheshadripuram, Bangalore on 27/05/2006 3) A talk on Scholarhsip, Freeship, educational Loan, Help from philanthropic Persons by Dr.M.S.Talawar on 17/06/2006 4) Additional courses in Education which are available in country and occupational trends by Dr.P.Yellappa on 8/7/ Placement services provided to students: Twenty one students of our institution got placement in schools through placement cell as mentioned below:- 1) Mother Public School, J.C.Nagar, Bangalore 6 students 2) Samhitha High School, J.C.Nagar, Bangalore 5 students 3) Raghavendra High School, Kamakshipalya 7 students 4) Venkat International School, Rajajinagar, Bangalore 3 students 38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff: The institution encouraged Non-teaching Staff to go in for Higher Education. The college Librarian was deputed for Refresher Course in Library Science. 39. Healthy practices of the institution The institution celebrated Silver Jubilee function on 9 th and 10 th October On this occasion One day Seminar on Excellence in Teacher Education for teacher educators of Bangalore University was arranged on 9/10/2006. On this occasion the institution honored the Members of Teaching and Non-teaching Staff by presenting a Silver Plaque. The Institution also honored the members of Governing body for their constant support. The Heads of Practice-in-teaching schools were honored for extending Practice-in-teaching facility and were

14 presented a memento. Meritorious students of batch were also honored on this occasion. To purchase three computers and one U.P.S system to upgrade technology by allocating about Rs.2 lakhs. 3. To enhance computer internet access facilities to teachers and students. 4. To impart training to use software Baraha and Shreelipi in Kannada to office staff. 5. To start the process of computer coding of the books in the Library. 6. To organize some social developmental activities in the villages to create awareness about health, hygiene, cleanliness education, prevention of AIDS and other social evils. 7. To undertake Community services like Tree plantation, distribution of note books for poor students and health checkup camps. 8. To improve the library facilities to the staff and students. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell conducted a meeting on 10/12/2006 and deliberated the plan of action for academic year In addition to the Calendar of Events of the college regarding B.Ed curriculum, the following action plan was chalked out. 1. The following was the outcome achieved by the end of the year. The institution organized Two Days Workshop on Practical Activities in Educational Psychology for Teacher Educators of Bangalore University as an out reach programme on 22 nd and 23 rd February 2007 in collaboration with Bangalore university. UGC sponsored Two Days State Level Seminar on Relevance of Multi-cultural Education in the Context of Globalization was conducted on 14 th and 15 th March The institution purchased one hp Compaq laptop, two Compaq 1238 IL Multi-media Desktop computers, one M.S Office Teacher Students Edition Software, Quick Heal Anti-virus, Shrilipi Kannada Software and 1 KVA Off line U P S. These purchases up graded the ICT facilities. The total investment for the enhancement of ICT facilities was Rs.1,71,444/-. The institution increased internet access to teachers and students with the purchase of Laptop and multi-media computers. The institution procured Forty books to the Library. Free note books were distributed to the poor students of the local community. Free Dental Checkup was organized for the local community. Under the Guidance and Counseling, Guest lectures on Topic like Study habits, Facing Examination and Interviews and Choosing the Right Career were organized. A street play was organized at Arehally Guddadahally village near Doddaballapur on 6/4/2007 during Community Living Camp.Village Survey, Shramadana, Visit to village school were also

18 undertaken. A general knowledge quiz competition and guest lectures by eminent teacher educators were organized for the benefit of students. Sports and Co-curricular activities were also organized. Dr.A.Somashekara Murthy, Principal was sanctioned a Research Project by N.C.E.R.T New Delhi and was sanctioned Rs.3,00,000/- towards project expenses. Along with the above activities the curricular activities were also conducted as per the curriculum to achieve the goals and objectives of the institution. The college achieved 98% of passes in the final examination. Part B: 1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: The academic year commenced on 11/12/2006. The institution planned and issued the calendar of Events of the B.Ed course to students along with Syllabus copy and Identity Cards. On 11/12/2006 and 12/12/2006 Induction programme was conducted. Every Thursday from 3.30p.m to 5.00p.m students of different clubs conducted several activities. On this occasion Eye Checkup was organized for the public and students of our college. The Founder Chairman felicitated the top scorer Kum. Radhamma J N by awarding a cash prize of Rs.1000/-. The college Magazine Sangha Mithra was also released on this occasion. On 15/8/2007 Independence Day was celebrated. On 23/09/2007 the Alumni Association organized a Guest Lecture on Computer Applications in Teacher Education by Dr.S.Srikantaswamy. On 29/09/2007 Staff and students visited Vishveswaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum of Bangalore as part of Activity of Science Club. On 18/10/2007 Medical Checkup Camp was organized for the students. The Valedictory of B.Ed course was held on 29/10/2007. Other academic activities of Bangalore University B.Ed course were carried on as per Calendar of Events issued by Bangalore University, Bangalore.. 2. All the teachers and students were trained to use MS Office package, and Internet. Internet facility was extended to Staff room and Pincipals room. The institution purchased Xerox printer and TVS Dot-matrix printer, National Panasonic Fax. The institution received feedback from stakeholders regarding curriculum transaction. Subject clubs of Science, Social science and Languages organized curricular and co-curricular activities on every Thursday s. The working hours of library was extended by one hour during examination time. The Alumni Association organized a guest lecture on Computer Applications in Teacher Education for the B.Ed students to up grade their computer knowledge on 16/2/2008. The Guidance & Counseling cell organized four orientation talks by eminent persons. The Birthday s of Eminent personalities and National festivals were celebrated throughout the academic year for the development of Social,Ethical values among students.

31 Along with the above activities the institution conducted curricular and cocurricular activities as per the curriculum framed by the Bangalore University, resulting in providing quality education and achieving 99% of result in the B.Ed examination. Part B: 1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: The academic year commenced on 10/12/2007. The institution planned the Calendar of Events for the B.Ed course and issued it to students along with Syllabus copy and Identity Cards. On 10/12/2007 and 11/12/2007 Induction programme was conducted. On the first day instructions were given to students about the ethics of the college, discipline, working hours, Library facilities etc. Everyday at 10.15a.m morning prayer Buddha Vandana and National Anthem were sung by the staff and the students. News reading session in English and Kannada by students on rotation basis was held everyday. The Inaugural Function of the course and subject club activities was officially held on 12/01/2008. Dr. K.Sameera Simha Professor, Vijaya Teachers College released Science News Paper and Prof. Kodirangappa released History Wall News Paper and Prathibha Sinchana Kannada fortnightly Wall News Paper. Every Thursday from 3.30p.m to 5.00p.m students of different clubs conducted several activities. Talents day was held on 13/01/2008. All the students exhibited their talents. Parent-Teachers Meeting was convened on 16/01/2008. Certain important issues related to college were discussed. On 23/02/2008 Staff and students visited State Level Science Exhibition Science Expo at Central college grounds On 28/02/2008 students of Social Science Club presented Papers on Local History of Bangalore. On 6/03/2008 Impromptu Speech was conducted.

32 On 17/03/2008 Under auspices of Forum for Dr.Ambedkars Thought Intercollegiate Essay Writing Competition for the B.Ed students of Bangalore University was organized on the Topic Dr.Ambedkar as an Economist On 14/4/2008. Dr.Ambedkar Jayanthi was celebrated and on this occasion prizes were awarded to the best three essays. On 23/04/2008 Health Checkup Camp was organized to our students. On 13/06/2008 a field trip to Vishveshwaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum, Nehru Planetarium and Venkatappa Art Gallery was organized. On 21/7/2008 Founders Day was celebrated as it happens to be the birthday of our Founder Chairman Sri. Mallikarjun M. Kharge. On this occasion Medical Checkup was organized for the public and students of our college. The Founder Chairman felicitated the top scorer Sri Raghavendra by awarding a cash prize of Rs.1000/- The college Magazine Sangha Mithra was also released on this occasion. On 10/8/2008 officials of Bangalore University visited our college for grant of Research Centre and M.Ed Course. On 15/8/2008 Independence Day was celebrated. On 21/8/2008 Parent- Teachers Meeting was convened and the developmental activities were discussed. The Valedictory of B.Ed course was held on 6/10/2008.
