III. Announcements J. Wagner announced. J. Wagner and T. Garbis met with their counterparts at Santa Ana College (SAC) and discussed shared curriculum. It was agreed that if a course is named and numbered identically at SAC and SCC, specific parts of the course outline must match including the following: Course Title Number of Units Hours Requisites Repeatability Family Statement Structure General Education The CIC membership should consider this when reviewing courses. In addition to these areas, the content for shared courses should be 80% identical, this is especially important for courses that are sequential. CurricUNET may be changed to include a check where both SCC and SAC Chairs are notified when a shared course is going through the CIC approval process. It is up to each department to communicate with their counterpart at SAC and reach agreement. If agreement cannot be reached, there is an option to renumber a course. It was suggested that faculty send their counterpart at SAC an e mail when a course is being revised. These efforts allow students a more seamless experience when they attend both colleges or transition between SAC and SCC. Faculty may receive an e mail regarding TOPs codes. It is not necessary to change a TOPs code, the e mails are being sent to allow faculty the opportunity to review coding and provide feedback. Department activities may at some point include an activity that involves reviewing shared courses, coding, and communication between colleges. Course families include courses that are related in content yet are distinct. Courses belonging to one family are reviewed together at CIC. Reviewers were asked to consider whether or not courses are distinct. Courses should not be presented as beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels, but should have content that differs. K. Irwin will provide training next week on Career Technical Education (CTE) and the Regional Consortium. IV. TRAINING No training was provided. MINUTES of 14

VII. POLICY CHANGES Discussion Items 1. Course Capacity Criteria The Academic Senate tasked the CIC to create a list of criteria for course capacity. The list is not policy or operational but would be forwarded to the Senate and provided to department chairs. Discussion ensued as to how course capacity is determined and whether or not it could be placed on the course outline of record. Course capacity is both a working conditions and a curricular issue. A point was made that faculty cannot set course capacity but can suggest it. Large group instruction (LGI) was mentioned and is included in the contract. Historically, classes have been capped by room size. M. Martinez suggested that the end result would be for departments to complete a list of courses with a cap and the reasons for the specified cap. J. Wagner asked members to review the handout provided with course capacity criteria. Criteria on the list can be removed, changed, and/or new criteria may be included. Suggestions will be discussed further at a future CIC meeting. Action Items No items to review VIII. ACADEMIC SENATE ITEMS Discussion Items No items to review Action Items No items to review IX. CATALOG AND OUTLINE FORM MODIFICATIONS No items to review The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m. by J. Wagner. MINUTES of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on Action #1 Action #2 Course/Program Title Comments Requestor Follow-Up Updated On CIS 159 Introduction to ios/iphone Mobile Maybe % is an A since we do not Darlene Diaz Rewritten "90% to 100%" App Development give +/- grades. CIS 259 Advanced ios/iphone Mobile App Development Action #3 MUS 182 Musical Ensemble Under course materials, bookstore should be one word. The music package mentions that it could be purchased...does this mean it isn't required? If it is, then a price shuold be listed. Is the grading scale in points or percentages? CP- there are some grammatical errors that should be fixed. CIS 159 is not a prerequisite? Laura Wirtz Added Recommended Preparation "Computer Information Systems 159 or similar programming experience." Develop appreciation for the standard classical repertoire and to encourage critical analysis of musical production from several historical periods. Experience an artistic inter-connection with people in the audience, and to and draw energy from this inter-connection in performance of musical production Occasionally prepare cable television performances. Develop the student s ability to discipline his/her work to withstand the varied demands of performance, and to use critique for personal growth Barbara Sproat Fixed Darlene Diaz Rewritten " Music package (approx. $20) " Added percentage signs (%) Maureen Roe Fixed of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on REVISIONS to Course Purpose pass/ no pass, yet has a grading scale A-F. Is this necessary? "Acquire" as an SLO? How is it assessed? "Demonstrate knowledge of" perhaps? Laney Wright Changed P/NP to "No" Rewritten "Demonstrate knowledge of the artistic " Are we allowed to have outside hours for a lab? Addressed in council Action #4 THEA 121 Beginning Performance Ensemble Consider re-working all of your objectives and outcomes in terms of utilization of this phrase: "demonstrate knowledge of..." Grading Criteria - added "points" Course Purpose - removed 3rd bullet Is the grading criteria in points or percentage? CP is a little wordy in some bullets; e.g. 3rd bullet- "Teach the actor..." Marcelo Pimentel Revised objectives in course content Tiffany Garbis N/A N/A Darlene Diaz Added points Removed Some grammar errors which I will note on a Maureen Roe N/A N/A hard copy and bring to council meeting. Action #5 THEA 122 Beginning Production Showcase Some grammar errors which I will note on a Maureen Roe N/A N/A hard copy and bring to council meeting. CP is identical to TA121. Is the grading criteria in points or percentages? Darlene Diaz Addressed in council Points Is each student required to perform in a play/musical as in class 121? Laney Wright Yes of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on Course Purpose - Sheryl Donchey can explain why 121 and 122 are identical and "ability to discipline his/her work"; cleaned up 2nd course purpose Tiffany Garbis N/A N/A Catalog entry - changed to "Additional hours are required"; changed from "staged" to "stage" YES - students are required to perform Assignments - changed from 96 to 64 SLOs - added comma Objectives - changed wording from "production" to "performance" Do you want 96 outside of class hours? I think we only need 64 if there are only 32 lecture hours. Catalog Entry: should it be "staged perfomance" or "stage performance" Both make sense. SLO #1 needs a comma: "character choices stage terminology" Last Course Purpose unclear: "ability to discipline his/her work " First two objectives are redundant Is the performance considered part of it lab? If so, should it be mentioned in the objective? Laney Wright Changed to 64 hours Changed to "stage" Added comma Addressed in council Rewritten "Understand the character concepts wanted by the director." of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on Action #7 Action #11 ACE 053 Expanding Academic Speaking Skills BIOL 109L Fundamentals of Biology Laboratory Action #16 MATH 290 Linear Algebra Does the 4th SLO need an assessment (1-3 have outcome and assessment). Action #18 PSYC 230 Psychology and Effective Behavior I think the hyphen should be removed after Regina Lamourelle Removed hyphen the Intermediate-level course in the catalog entry since it is not anywhere else in the document. Would the first SLO read better without "Demonstrate that they can"? Robert Miller Rewritten "Produce clear and accurate " Is the Biology Lab Manual required? Barbara Sproat Yes Explore how effective behavior an help improve Barbara Sproat Addressed in council Maureen Roe Change to "can" Lecture section: The self in relation to Barbara Sproat Fixed others - 2nd bullet: "an" should be "can." Action #20 PBLC 086 Basic Code Enforcement Officer Same SLO #2 comment Laney Wright Revised SLO # Fixed Action #21 PBLC 087 Intermediate Code Enforcement Officer Same SLO #2 comment. Laney Wright Revised SLO # Does intermediate code enforcement need to be capatilized? If so, then should the other courses capitailize them in CE? SLO#2- Does an exam with students scoring at least 70% count as an SLO? I am not sure, that is why I ask. Darlene Diaz Removed capitalization Reworded SLOs to follow the Cosmetology SLO. The programs are similar in that the ultimate goals is secondary certification /29/14 Action #22 PBLC 088 Advanced Code Enforcement Officer SLO#2? Reads more like grading criteria. Laney Wright Revised SLO # SLO: how does one "demonstrate" diversity? Barbara Sproat Revised SLO of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on WR: plumbing, not plumping (two times) Fixed 9/15/2014 course materials: do selected texts need to be listed? Comment meant for Public Works 089 Barbara Sproat No textbook necessary N/A 9/29/14 N/A O88: plumping rather than plumbing in SLO Barbara Sproat Fixed 9/15/2014 and cat entry Field Trips are marked in IM; maybe it Darlene Diaz needs to be mentioned in the CE? For Drug Awareness objective, in the laboratory area, the objective should be reworded. Big space b/w SLO #1 and #2 Revised Fixed spacing Action #23 PBLC 089 Code Enforcement Officer- Supervision Consider re-working the SLOs. Marcelo Pimentel Revised SLOs It seems that SLO #1 needs to be Marcelo Pimentel Revised SLOs compressed; both SLOs could be re-worded along these lines: "Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply knoledge of..." Is #2 an SLO? Sounds more like grading Laney Wright Revised SLOs criteria to pass. For Assertive Leadership objectives in Darlene Diaz Removed "will" laboratory, first bullet needs to be reworded. Maybe just remove "will." 13 of 14

Comments for CIC Meeting on For SLO#1, maybe make it three different SLOs. Maybe a student can "Demonstrate best-practices in diversity, communication, and ethics by course practice scenarios," and then "Demonstrate performance management in best-practices, employment law, assertive leadership, budgets, finance, and grant administration," and then the third one "Promote an agency, critical incident management, strategic planning, and internal investigations." It seems there is more than one SLO in SLO#1. Should be re-worded. Revised SLOs Revised SLOs Action #26 Digital Media Arts: Mobile Application Development and Design Capitalize the name of the certificate in the first sentence. Also under Career Opportunities, capitalize Web Programmer to be consistent with the others. Laney Wright Fixed of 14
