Students also learn such skills as shampooing, conditioning, and styling hair as well as manicures and pedicures. Building Management I A two-year program that will provide students with the knowledge necessary to service a variety of structures including commercial and industrial buildings. Career Investigations I A one-year exploratory course which allows students to analyze their personal interests, skills, and assets, and to complete a basic exploration of various career clusters to discover which career fields they would like to study further. Shadowing paid and/or volunteer employment experiences may be included. Fees apply. Students can receive high school credit, and verified credit. Carpentry I - Part one of a two-year program where students learn to build utility and residential structures. Students develop basic skills needed to gain entry-level employment in the carpentry field. Students receive instruction in measurements, hand and portable power tools, and the essentials of light construction. A significant part of the program will address computer operation systems as well as setting up and troubleshooting networked computers. Construction Technology Careers Interpretation - An exploratory construction class designed to offer students an opportunity to observe and analyze information in the world of construction. Cosmetology I Part one of a two-year program where students develop entry-level skills in the proper care of hair, skin, and nails. Students can earn state and national credentials,. Students will focus on chair-side assisting, dental materials, head and neck anatomy, infection control, dental therapeutics, radiology, and dental health education. At the completion of the program, students will receive an advanced career studies certificate and can continue on in the full dental assisting certificate program at JSRCC. Students can earn state and national credential, college credits, honors high school credit, and verified credits. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and score satisfactorily on required JSR placement tests to be considered for this program. Uniform required. Digital Electronics--Students use computer simulations to learn about the logic of electronics as they design, test, actually construct circuits and devices. They apply control system programming and explore sequential logic and digital circuitry fundamentals. Topics in computer circuitry are also presented, including circuitry analysis and an exploration into diodes, transistors, and operational amplifiers. (STEM Student Only) Digital Visualization- Students gain experiences related to computer animation by solving problems involving 3-D object manipulation, story boarding, texture mapping, lighing concepts and environmental geometry. They produce animotous that include interdisciplinary projects related to science, engineeromg,. amd the entertainment industry. A major emphasis is placed on the production of a portfolio that showcases examples of student's original work. 4 Emergency Medical Technician I, II & III (Internship) - A one year course where students focus on the role and responsibilities of emergency rescue workers, basic medical terminology, and health care skills that include first aid; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; aseptic technique; and related anatomy and physiology and disease knowledge. Instruction also emphasizes proper care and use of common emergency equipment and safe methods for lifting, moving, and transporting injured persons. Supervised on-the-job and patient care experiences are part of the instructional program. Uniform required. Students can earn state and national credentials, The summer internship is a required laboratory experience beyond the classroom. Entrepreneurship Practices A one-year course designed for students who wish to concentrate on strategies for career development through ownership/management of their own businesses. Although individual skills are emphasized, the focus of the course is on development of a business plan, including the following: determination of type of business enterprise, legal considerations, location selection, financing, steps in getting the enterprise started, marketing strategy, and interaction with successful entrepreneurs. Students will be able to identify what skills and occupations are necessary now and in the future. Greenhouse Management II - Part two of the Horticulture program where students learn the operating procedures for a greenhouse. Units of instruction include developing plant production facilities, science application in plant production, and identification of plants. Business management and marketing skills are emphasized to prepare students for careers in the greenhouse plant production and management industry Health Careers Interpretation An exploratory health careers class designed to offer students an opportunity to observe and analyze information in the health care industry Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning I - Part one of a two-year program that helps students develop skills in the use of brazing equipment, trade related tools, testing instruments, and heating and cooling equipment. Additional focus areas are electricity and thermodynamics. Students receive instruction in using soil and other plant-growing media and identifying, propagation, and growing horticultural plants in the greenhouse and land laboratory. Human Anatomy and Physiology This course gives an explanation of the chemical and physical phenomena underlying the structure and function of systems of the human body. Identifies, explains functions of describes chemical net working of the various body parts in relation to the total system. In addition, this course provides detailed explanations of the functions of the human body not covered in biology and develops basic knowledge of physiology as represented by the latest advances. Scientific research is required. (STEM Student Only)

5 Introduction to Engineering & Design In this one-year course students will be using computer-modeling software, as well as learning the design process. Students will solve design problems as they develop, create, and analyze product models. (STEM Student Only) Introduction to Health & Medical Services An introductory semester course designed introduces students to a variety of health care careers and develops basic skills required in all health and medical sciences. Nutrition and Wellness Students enrolled in Nutrition and Wellness, a semester course focus on making choices that promote wellness and good health; analyzing relationships between psychological and social needs and food choices; choosing foods that promote wellness; obtaining and storing food for self and family. (STEM Student Only) Pharmacy Technician I & II (Honors) - A one-year JS Reynolds dual enrollment program designed to provide students with the skills necessary to assist pharmacists with delivering health care services to clients in a variety of settings. Students will explore the basics of general pharmacy, reading prescriptions, symbols, packages, and pharmacy calculations as well as learn measuring compounds of drugs, dosage forms, drug laws, and drug classifications. Students may continue postsecondary study at JSRCC and work toward a Pharmacy Technician Certification. Physics of Technology I - A two year program in applied science in which emphasis is placed on understanding scientific and mathematical principles that support mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal systems. 6 Robotics Careers Investigation I Part one of a two-year exploratory course designed to provide instruction in basic computer programming, electronics, motor control, and feedback systems used in assembly and manufacturing settings. In addition, students learn how to program programmable logic controllers for remote robotic manipulation. Students can be recommended to compete in the national and state robotics competition. Students will develop skills in assessment, care, and evaluation of an athlete s injury or illness; advise athletes on the proper use of equipment; plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness preventative programs; and develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance Technology Foundations/Transfer - A course where students acquire foundational knowledge of the use of technological materials, energy, and information. Students will explore precision technical drawing, electronics, biorelated technology, fundamental engineering practices, applied physics and related computer applications. Television Production I Part one of a two year program where students learn to operate equipment such as TV cameras, video tape recorders, microphone, audio mixers and video editing systems. They practice skills related to production direction, and scripting programs and set design and construction. Students also study control room procedures and responsibilities.
