Only A Game, Except When It Isn t, with Bill Littlefield Monday, September :30 p.m. Metcalf Trustee Center 1 Silber Way, 9 th Floor Join Evergreen for a lunch featuring Only A Game s award-winning host, Bill Littlefield. Since 1993, NPR s flagship sports show has gone beyond the box scores to tell stories about athletes that come in every shape, size, and ability, giving listeners a weekly hour of the human side of sports and competition. Littlefield will be on hand to discuss the show, as well as his most recent book, Take Me Out, a collection of sportsand games-related verse. This event is complimentary, but registration is required. No registrations will be accepted after September 6. Free The Many Intersections between Law and Medicine, with Barbara Buell Thursdays, October 5, 12 & 19, November 9 & 16 10:30 a.m. 12 p.m. GSU Conference Auditorium 775 Commonwealth Ave., 2 nd Floor Explore the aspects of health care unlikely to arise in current congressional hearings or the daily media. Led by Barbara Hayes Buell, JD, MPH, this seminar series will focus on the interplay between health care and the law as it affects individuals and families. Buell, who practices primarily in the field of health care, will cover a range of topics of interest to seniors, including housing options, mental health issues, and decision-making via health care proxies and guardianships. This seminar series also includes a primer on medical malpractice and quality control with the Board of Registration. $50

4 FALL 2017 The Empire Strikes Back: Russia and the Soviet Successor States, with Asbed Kotchikian Tuesdays, October 17 & 31, November 7 & 14 10:30 a.m. 12 p.m. GSU Conference Auditorium 775 Commonwealth Ave., 2 nd Floor Get an overview of the Soviet successor states of Russia, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Led by Asbed Kotchikian, who earned his PhD in political science at BU in 2006 and is a senior lecturer in global studies at Bentley University, these seminars will provide a historical snapshot of late Soviet years as well as chart the paths of socio-political developments in those countries over the past 25 years. Discussion topics include the rise of (semi)authoritarian regimes, ethnic conflicts, and the future prospects of these countries in the international political order. $40 America in the World: Ideology and Presidential Power in U.S. Foreign Relations, with Michael Holm Tuesdays, October 17 & 31, November 7 & :30 p.m. GSU Conference Auditorium 775 Commonwealth Ave., 2 nd Floor Presented by Michael Holm, a historian and lecturer in BU s College of General Studies, this seminar series explores the fundamental ideas and myths of American foreign policy. From a historical perspective, the seminar opens up debates about the origins and power of American exceptionalist ideology, discussions regarding isolationism versus expanded global commitments, and concerns regarding expanding presidential power over foreign policy, from the nation s founding up to and including perceptions of Donald Trump s current policies. $40 Register for seminars online at bu.edu/evergreen.

9 AUDITING A COURSE Boston University offers hundreds of courses on fascinating topics, taught by world-renowned scholars and any person 58 or older may register to audit BU classes, becoming part of a rich exchange of knowledge. For auditing fees, consult the enclosed Registration Form or visit bu.edu/evergreen/auditing. Evergreen students are responsible for any course related fees, such as applied music, technology, or lab fees, etc. The last day to add classes is September 18, Step-by-step auditing instructions: 1. Choose a course. Visit bu.edu/reg and select Registration, then Class Schedule. 2. Complete the enclosed Auditing Registration Form. Failure to complete fully can cause delays in processing. 3. Attend the first class to obtain the instructor s signature (required). Acceptance is at the discretion of the instructor.* 4.
