5 Additional Graduation Requirements Five STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) Exams English I 9 th Grade April 10 th 5 hour test Algebra I 8 th /9 th Grade May 8 th 4 hour test Biology 9 th Grade May 9 th 4 hour test English II 10 th Grade April 12 th 5 hour test US History 11 th Grade May 10 th 4 hour test Satisfactory Score Required

6 Rank and GPA Weighted grade points are used to determine rank in class. Courses taken in grades 9 12 through the regular school year will be used for GPA calculation. See the course academic guide for any exceptions to this rule. Courses taken in middle school for high school credit will be used for GPA calculation. Honor Graduate status is given to students with a 4.0 or higher GPA.

How Grade Points are Awarded Grade points are assigned each semester. The number of grade points assigned depends on the level of the course taken.

10 AP Capstone AP Capstone is a two year sequence of courses: (Year 1) AP Seminar and (Year 2) AP Research. AP Seminar focuses on college-level analysis, writing, and research skills. AP Research: students design, plan, and conduct a yearlong research based investigation to address a research question.

11 AP Exam Registration 1 st Day to Register - February 20 th Register through Students must attend a Pre-Admin Session prior to test date. Dates and times will be announced.

18 Release Periods Juniors may request a release period Maximum of 2 Morning or Afternoon (any combination) Early Release or Late Arrivals will be adjusted if in conflict with selected courses. Release periods are not a priority. The best way to prepare for college is to take challenging courses.

22 Course Selections Approval from your Math, Science and English teachers is required! Draw a line beside your Math course, your Science course and your English course. Ask your teacher to sign-off on your selection Make sure you have 8 total classes on your card including release periods. If you want to make a change, draw 1 line through the course and write the new course in the blank to the right Make sure you include 4 good alternate choices Parent Signature is required!

23 Making a Schedule Change The master schedule will be based on the choices you have made on your schedule cards. Please review the courses very carefully! Deadline to make changes is April 13 th After April 13 th, only approved program changes (in or out of athletics, band, etc.) will be allowed through the second week of each semester.

27 Preparing for College SAT/ACT Plan to take the ACT, SAT, or both by the end of your 11 th grade year. Sign Up for the Mock SAT Exam offered by our National Honor Society Registration is through MyPaymentsPlus Mock SAT Saturday, February 17 th These are offered in the fall and spring each year. Cost is $10 per exam.

28 Preparing for College SAT/ACT Free Test Prep Resources Khan Academy SAT College Board - ACT - FISD has a contract with Princeton Review to provide SAT/ACT test preparation at a discount to our students. Many of the classes are offered at Wakeland High School Check the Princeton Review website at for a list of test prep courses available.
