1 Clear Creek ISD Students: EIC (REGULATION) VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN TIE BREAKER SYSTEM To be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian honors, a student shall graduate in four years or less, be enrolled in CCISD for the entire last two year of high school, and be enrolled in the same high school their entire senior year. There shall be one valedictorian and one salutatorian for each graduating class. The valedictorian shall be the student with the highest grade point average and the salutatorian shall be the student with the secondhighest grade point average. The tie-breaker system for valedictorian and salutatorian shall use the numerical grades averaging core courses, Languages other than English, and Advanced Placement courses listed below. CHECHS students only Dual credit courses that are crosswalked to TEA approved courses listed below shall be used in the tie-breaker system. An additional ten points/semester of Adv Acad., PreAP, AP, or CHECHS Dual Credit courses shall be added for grades of 75 or above. 4 GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) COURSEWORK OUTSIDE OF REGULAR SCHOOL DAY COURSEWORK DURING THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY Rank in class shall be based on a cumulative grade point average. It is determined, after each semester, by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of semester units attempted. Grade point averages for all students in a graduating class shall be calculated using the same formula. All coursework taken outside of the regular school day schedule (summer school, night school, credit recovery, correspondence courses, credit by examination, credit by acceleration, open entry/open exit, dual credit, online courses, high school credit earned prior to grade 9, flex courses and alternative physical education activities) shall be recorded on the academic achievement record but shall not receive grade points nor be used in determining grade point average or class rank. All dual credit and credit recovery coursework taken during the regular school day schedule shall not receive grade points nor be used in determining grade point average or class rank. Online coursework taken during the regular school day schedule shall receive grade points and will be used in determining grade point average and class rank. Grade point averages (GPA) are determined as noted below. Rank in class shall be based on the end of the junior year for college applications and based on the first semester of the senior year to determine all graduation honors, including valedictorian and salutatorian. HONOR GRADUATE OUTSIDE COURSEWORK DEADLINE EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS RANK GRADE POINTS In order to be considered for honors, a student must have completed all outside coursework before the end of the first nine weeks of the spring semester with the exception of dual-credit courses in progress. After graduation, final class rank shall be determined and recorded on the academic achievement record. Higher-level course credits earned shall receive grade points according to the list of higher-level courses offered in the District and the grade point scale used for credit earned in the District. Students shall not receive weighted grade points for courses not available in CCISD, with the exception of International Baccalaureate courses.
