5 English Literature GCSE Exam 1 : 40% Shakespeare / Anthology Poems Romeo and Juliet 15 poems from Eduqas anthology Buy copies of the texts so students can make their own notes many available on e-readers/ internet. Buy revision guides (CPG) - free notes on line though (Spark notes, Cliff notes, enotes, Lit charts). Watch the Animated Tales / film interpretations. Exam 2 : 60% Lord Of The Flies OR Blood Brothers. 23 English Language 1. Literary- Fiction 40% A. Unseen literary extracts; Read a short part of a story and answer 5 questions. First questions find the right information Questions 2-5 analyse the writing in detail Go over pack of extracts given / classwork extracts Learning key terms /techniques definitions and how to spot them in a piece of writing. B. Creative prose writing Choice of 4 story titles, for example: The Journey. A Difficult Decision. Write about a time when you were somewhere new. Write a story which begins: If only I had known then what I know now Go over classwork writing examples Discuss five stories student portfolio Talk about funny incidents that could be turned into amusing stories for the loose exam titles. Use creative writing prompts / images to practise descriptive writing.

24 English Language 2.Non- Fiction 60% A. Unseen 1800S with 1900 non-fiction texts. Read a modern text answer 2 questions (1 comprehension / 1 analysis). Read a 19 th C text answer 2 questions(1 comprehension / 1 analysis). Compare both texts 4 mark / 10 mark B. Transactional writing 60% Two short pieces. PURPOSE and AUDIENCE will be specified in the question: - Persuade, argue, inform. - Adults, peers, interest groups INTRODUCE YOUR CHILD TO NEW VOCABULARY. TALK ABOUT WHAT WORDS MEAN. KEY FOCUS MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND DIFFICULT VOCABULARY AND UNDERSTANDS THE 1800s the Victorian era. Read old letters, diaries (see Letters of Note blog ) Help your child understand events of Victorian Britain look them up together on line. Read history text books / encyclopaedias; help them point out similarities and differences in texts. You could: visit museums, National Trust properties etc. KEY FOCUS MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS A POINT OF VIEW! Discuss world issues what do they think about what is going on in the news? Play devil s advocate with them: what would you say to someone who thinks the opposite. Show them real life articles either paper based or online newspapers and magazines Talk about them. Watch relevant documentaries.
