15 When reading the first two paragraphs on FB page, discuss: What do you think being different but the same has to do with being Catholic? Optional Activity: Help students discover that Catholics hold common, core beliefs about their faith, but that how Catholics practice these beliefs can differ, depending on culture, language, and customs. Divide the class into small groups, and give each group two pieces of newsprint or chart paper and markers. Instruct the groups to label one paper Beliefs and the other Practices. Explain that the object of the activity is to surface as many beliefs as they can that all Catholics have in common. Tell them to refer to FB pages and, and remind them that much of what Catholics believe is stated in the Nicene Creed. On the other paper, they are to name ways that Catholics practice those beliefs. These practices rituals, customs, celebrations, and so forth can be practices with which they are familiar, or practices they have heard that others do. Provide an example. For instance, if a family believes in the importance of prayer, their practice could be to take time each night to pray before bedtime. Give the groups approximately 0 minutes to work on the activity. Then have each group present its results to the class and tape its papers on the walls around the room. After each group has presented, ask: What did you discover about our beliefs and practices? Summarize the activity using points illustrated on the posted papers.
