India: Demographics India has a population of 1.23 billion (second largest in the world, only behind China 1.35 billion) as per July 2014 estimates, accounting for 17.5 per cent of the world s population. With a population growth rate of 1.25 per cent, India is set to become the most populous country by It is certainly one of the youngest countries in the world with the median age being 27 years. The age structure of India currently is as follows: 0-14 years: 28.5% years: 18.1% years: 40.6% years: 5.8% 65 years and over: 5.7%
This is interesting..
Top 10 countries for sending students source Wikipedia Rank Place of Origin Number of Students Percent of Total 1 China 328, % 2 India 165, % 3 Saudi Arabia 61, % 4 South Korea 61, % 5 Canada 26, % 6 Vietnam 21, % 7 Taiwan 21, % 8 Brazil 19, % 9 Japan 19, % 10 Mexico 16, %
The Big Indian Middle Class India Matters in the world of higher education and study abroad because of its largest growing middle class (267 Million in 2016) - that can afford higher education Annually around 400,000 Indian students apply to overseas higher education institutions. The 270 plus million Indian middle-class families prefer engineering over other professions As the disposable incomes of the upper middle-class and middle class rise, there will be more and more firstgeneration undergraduate admission seekers emerging from India. Demonetization & GST in 2017 long term advantage for the Country. More money with the Banks and Government. India rising / strong economy jobs creator back home.
India Market Dynamics India is the 2nd leading place of origin for students. Accounting for every sixth international student in the United States. (which is the top choice) Approximately three-fifths of India students are at the graduate level and three-fourths are in the STEM fields. Produces the highest numbers STEM students in the world. India's 23 elite engineering schools attract more than 1million applications each year, and less than 1% of applicants are successful. The first choice is Study Abroad for the ones that did not make the list.
8 Understanding India's Education System The Indian school education system is one of the largest in the world. The Indian Education system is complex because of India s diverse culture & geodemographic factors. Multitude of languages spoken (India has 23 constitutionally recognized official languages) Other factors like the HUGE class divide between the rich and the poor - difficult to maintain standards and uniformity. makes it After independence India has worked hard to provide Education access to almost all its young people, but it has only just begun to focus on aspects of Quality and seek to improve Higher learning outcomes.
Understanding India s Education System - continued The school system in India has four levels: lower primary (ages 6 to 10), upper primary (ages 11 and 12), high (ages 13 to 15) and higher secondary (ages 17 and 18). After passing the Higher Secondary Examination (the Standard 12 examination), most students enrol in general degree programmes such as bachelor's degree in arts, commerce or science, or professional degree programme such as engineering, law or medicine. India's higher education system is the third largest in the world, after China and the United States. The main governing body at the tertiary level is the University Grants Commission (India), which enforces its standards, advises the government, and helps coordinate between the centre and the state.
**** Top Cities to recruit students in INDIA Hyderabad, (Telangana) Bangalore (Karnataka) New Delhi (NCR Region) Chennai, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur (Maharashtra) Ahmedabad, Surat, Baroda, Rajkot (Gujarat) Cochin, Trivandrum (Kerala) Kolkata (West Bengal) Vizag, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) Jaipur ( Rajasthan )
US still the top choice for Indians, but has slowed down. The Triggering factors for a slowdown Elections in the US (Nov 2016) Visa Denials ( Fall 2016 and Spring 2017) Defer Admissions ( Fall 2017) Immigration Ban ( January 2017) Racial Attacks (Srinivas in Kansas Feb 2017) Students want other country options ( March 2017) H1B quota & STEM changes indicated ( April 2017) Forex rates - $ to Rupee
New top choices for Indian students.. Canada Welcoming & Stay back options/ Very Popular Australia Easy visa process & PR Germany Free Education for Graduates Ireland Post-Study work permit of 2 years New Zealand good work life balance Russia Medical Studies Singapore Close proximity to Home Poland Gateway to Europe China now amongst top choice/ Medical
What Agents need? More Engagement with Universities Strong Bonds Sense of Responsibility & Optimism Assurance of - Safety on campus News and Updates regarding Immigration, (proposed versus passed bills) Quick Replies to queries and application/ US wins there. To Conclude, its all about Relationships & Connections.
INDIA SWOT Analysis English speaking Small UG market Rise in Disposable income Visa Denials population Established Graduate Over-Crowded Graduate market Family Savings Growing GDP Students transfer out Market Qualified potential students Well established agent network Rural areas are lagging way behind in educational development. Big India community in abroad. By 2020, India& China, combined will produce 40% US Dollar VS. Indian Rupee Better quality of Education institutes in Home Country have advantage over Foreign Universities Good Financial stability Easy availability of Bank loans Low Investment in Education institutions of global graduates. By 2030, the number of Protectionism in the West Strong Alumni network Indian of College-Age is estimated to be 400 million. Students Graduating versus local college availability is lopsided.
My observations More schools coming out to recruit Face time In-country office easy way to increase enrolments/ rise in them/ cost-effective. Students are more open to other countries then before No News is Good News Students are getting back / 2019 should be reasonably good. Agents are optimistic again Canada hitting a cap, because of the size. STEM programs still the first choice.
