4 Study at Cranfield Our full-time graduate programmes in defence and security offer the highest standards of education and address the changing needs of an evolving sector. The modular structure of many of our courses offers students the flexibility to study at their own pace and exit with a Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Master s (PgCert, PgDip, MSc) qualification, or simply to study an individual module. Defence Leadership MSc, PgDip, PgCert This course is designed primarily for those with some personal leadership experience in the defence or security arena, who are keen to expand their knowledge and understanding of leadership theory, and to improve their leadership practice. Successful students will have a broad appreciation of the variety of approaches to leadership, a critical understanding of the nature of their own leadership, be able to critically evaluate and lead successful organisational change, and develop leadership in others. Defence and Security Marketing PgCert This course is aimed at those working within the defence and security sector who are looking to expand their knowledge in the field of defence and security marketing. The course explores the ethics, legal ramifications, negotiating strategies, offset processes and strategic export trade control and compliance procedures required to make a positive impact on export performance. Information Capability Management MSc, PgDip, PgCert This course enables participants to understand the strategic importance of information and equips them with the skills to develop agile and effective ways to exploit it to its full potential by ensuring that the right information is available to the right people at the right time in an effective, efficient and secure manner. It is suitable for those in the military, civil service, government, police and other law enforcement agencies, industry and other organisations seeking to master the management of business and supporting systems. It opens up diverse career opportunities including business analysis, strategy development and implementation, organisational development, information management, information assurance, cyber security and strategic application of information systems. 4
5 Security Sector Management MSc, PgDip, PgCert Increased calls for capacity-building at the heart of the global security agenda have led to the requirement for new expertise and skill sets. This course is specifically designed for those needing strategic level skills and knowledge to effectively develop and implement plans in the security sector. Enabling participants to analyse, evaluate and communicate emerging security challenges within state, regional and international frameworks. Our experts share their knowledge on current global security issues, such as defence leadership governance, the environment, information security and institution building, as well as frameworks to respond to these challenges. Programme and Project Management (Defence) MSc, PgDip, PgCert This is for established professionals seeking to extend their knowledge and skills in this field, enabling them to operate at a more strategic level, and with the confidence and enthusiasm to challenge traditional project management thinking. Designed for both civil servants and serving military officers, this course will develop reflective professionals who look at programme and project management from a contemporary perspective. Graduates have the skills and techniques to develop creative solutions to previously unsolved problems, and recognise that cross-functional knowledge and strategic vision are vital to success. MBA (Defence) The Cranfield Executive MBA (Defence) has been designed to meet the growing need for those working in the defence sector to possess a comprehensive portfolio of commercial management skills, enabling them to contribute more effectively towards the business of managing defence. This course is not just about improving skills and techniques in general management - we build confidence, emotional intelligence, decision-making and team-working qualities that make for inspirational leaders within the UK defence sector and the international defence community. Cranfield School of Management The two courses above are delivered in part at the Cranfield School of Management which is one of an elite group of schools worldwide to hold the triple accreditation of: AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (the Association of MBAs). 5
6 Accreditation The MSc award of selected courses have, or may be in the process of obtaining, accreditation by the following professional institutions. To find out if a specific course holds accreditations, please visit the course page on our website. My postgraduate study with Cranfield has led to greater employability by improving the weaker areas of my skills and knowledge; in particular I now have a deeper understanding of practical project management. The most enjoyable aspect of my course is the freedom to explore and research, formulating new ideas and concepts from what I ve found. Edward Oates, current student Defence and Security PhD 6
