1 MA60-POLI DETAILED SHEET Master in Political Sciences : General (60 credits) The programme of option JOUR is taught in english and is organized during office hours. The programme of option SOIR is taught in french and is organized out of office hours. Job opportunities Curriculum Students gaining a Master degree in Political sciences in one year (60 credits) may, on account of this complementary education, orient or re-orient their professional careers towards a whole range of jobs in different sectors: Belgian and European public administration, international careers, teaching and research, jobs in the field of politics and sociology, careers in public relations and journalism, consultancy, forecasting in the private sector (geopolitics, geostrategy,...), for example in the banking and insurance sectors. Work at all levels in politics and social affairs (political parties, unions, employer organisations, pressure groups) and political offices Civil service occupations at local, regional, national and European level, international careers (diplomatic service, international institutions such as the UN, OECD or the Council of Europe) Supervisor in the non-profit sector (a registered charity, NGO, humanitarian organisation, in a local community/ administration) Analyst in the private sector (e.g. in the banking sector) Public relations and journalism (printed press, broadcasting): spokesperson, journalist, PR officer Teaching focuses on two areas: political sciences and international relations. The first looks at issues of power and political action at national, subnational, European and international levels, while the second looks more at foreign policy, security and conflict resolution issues. Programme objectives The one-year Master programs (60 credits) in Political sciences aim to provide a complementary education, of use to students wanting to enhance their university background or re-orient their professional careers. With this in mind, two programs are offered, the one as a daytime course and the other as an evening/weekend course in French. Benefits of the training The specific features of the one-year MA programs (60 credits) are above all their complementary teaching and their focus on career re-orientation. The fact that the programs are taught in English or offered as an evening/weekend course reflect this logic. Teaching methods The programoffers specific methods course to prepare students for the Final Dissertation. Progression per curriculum unit The concept of a year of studies gives way to a system of accumulation of credits based on the student s individual programme. The cycle programme is offered in units of 60 credits. The units of 60 credits are proposed as an ideal course of study for students enrolled in this programme.
