Code Description 7802AFE Financial Data Analysis Designed as the first formal course in basic statistical methods, this course aims to provide recognition of situations where statistical analysis may be of benefit and the range of methods that may apply to a given situation. 7803AFE Financial Markets This course intends to provide an understanding of the institutional and operational aspects of financial systems from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The main focus will be based on the following synopsis: financial sector analysis; evaluation of financial markets and instruments; evolution in financial systems in reference to Australia. Students are expected to follow business and finance activities throughout the teaching period. It is important that all students are aware of developments in relation to the financial sector. 7705AFE Finance Finance has a central role in any organisation, how to fund the business, where to invest and how to allocate financial resources is a key part to effective leadership of an organisation. This course provides students with a broad understanding of existing finance frameworks and concepts, introduces new frameworks and explains all of these with regard to their advantages and limitations when trying to achieve effective outcomes. 7801AFE Investments This course studies core aspects of equity security analysis and valuation, debt security valuation, security market indices, market efficiency, and portfolio management risk and return. The rapidly changing financial environment and the number of new instruments available have made investment analysis a task which people can only be carried out by who have been equipped with updated skills. The course covers current advances in the analysis of international capital markets, and presents a range of analytical techniques. 7808AFE Equity Investments Equity investments constitute a significant segment of the investment market. The aim of the course is to gain solid understanding of how equity markets function, to master a range of equity valuation techniques. The peculiarities of valuation of private companies, equity markets, as well as issues for valuation in emerging markets are also examined. This course assists with preparation for CFA Level 2 examinations. The course is a component required for RG 146 (Securities) compliance. 7701AFE Economics Economics is undergoing rapid changes with existing assumptions being challenged. This course provides students with an understanding of traditional and new economic models and frameworks. 4 Code Description 7809AFE Fixed Income Investments This course aims to provide students with knowledge of the analytical tools related to the fixedincome investment market. Topics to be covered include: fixed income analysis; capital and money market instruments; fundamentals and principles of credit risk analysis, interest rate volatility; the term structure of interest rates; interest rate risk; asset-backed products, valuation of bonds with embedded options and asset-backed securities. This course assists with preparation for CFA Level 2 examinations and is a component required for RG146 (Securities) compliance. 7702AFE Accounting: Integrated Reporting Accounting is undergoing radical change and while existing frameworks are still valid, new developments are increasingly evident. This course explores both traditional and new integrated accounting frameworks, reports and compliance issues. In so doing it enables students to fully understand the limitations of existing accounting frameworks while also being equipped for the development of new accounting frameworks that their organisations are going to be using. 78AFE Derivatives and Risk Management Aimed to provide knowledge and tools for the analysis of derivative markets and derivative securities, this course discusses the pricing and risk management aspects of derivative securities. Topics include: forwards and futures markets, options markets, swap markets, credit derivatives, basic pricing concepts, the cost-of-carry model, the Black-Scholes model, hedging and risk management techniques. The course assists with preparation for CFA Level 2 and 3 examinations and is a component required for RG146 (Derivatives) compliance. 7812AFE Behavioural Finance and Wealth Management This course aims to provide a strong foundation for the role of financial advisors on issues associated with private financial planning. It starts with explanation of behavioural biases of individuals, and how they relate to investment process. It covers the topics of asset allocation, taxation, estate planning, low-basis stock, and life-time financial advice. It also examines the issues surrounding management of investor s portfolios and assists with preparation for CFA level 3 examinations. 7813AFE Ethics and Alternative Investments This course has a dual role. Firstly, it examines ethics and ethical practices in the investment profession. Secondly, it is designed to provide students with an understanding of alternative investment vehicles, tools of their analysis and applications. Topics include: the properties of estimators, hypothesis testing, specification error, non-linear least squares, maximum likelihood estimation and related testing procedures, generalised least squares, heteroskedasticity, and autocorrelation. The course assists with the preparation for CFA level 2 examinations. 7814AFE Professionalism in Financial Services The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of legal matters surrounding financial markets, including securities, derivatives, deposit products, emissions trading units, foreign exchange, margin lending and financial planning. It also assists students to navigate in other matters surrounding professional financial advisors. 7811AFE Portfolio Management This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills required for effective portfolio management. Topics include: theories of active portfolio management, portfolio management process, fixed-income and equity portfolio management strategies, portfolio execution and evaluation of the performance, global performance evaluation standards. The course assists with preparation for CFA level 2 and 3 examinations and is a component required for RG146 (Managed Investments) compliance. 7817AFE Income Tax Law This course examines the main taxation revenue raising techniques used by the Australian Commonwealth Government, including income tax, capital gains tax, goods and services tax and fringe benefits tax. The course also concentrates on particular taxation aspects governing different entity types, such as individuals, minors, partnerships, companies and trusts. 7816AFE Financial Statements Analysis The course examines the role of financial statement information evaluates the financial performance of public companies, and attempts to predict a firms future performance by parties external to the firm. Topic coverage includes traditional ratio analysis; analysis of inventory, long-lived assets, income taxes, inter-corporate investments, employee compensation and employee compensation.
