4 faculty of management Developing Future-fit Leadership The world of business leadership is diverse and exciting! make the correct career choices, enter the diverse and exciting world of business leadership and control your destiny. Management combines an exciting mix of theory and practice. A good manager is expected to be influential, strategic, organised and ideally a natural leader. Almost every job will have a managing element and therefore it is important to develop these skills. To become a great manager you need to learn how to do things right (Peter Drucker), know yourself, gain wisdom and lead people at work on a day-to-day basis. 5 What is Management? Management is an art using knowledge and technologies to run productive and successful organisations and making work more humane. What is a Faculty? The Faculty of Management houses all the Departments where the art of management, entrepreneurship and leadership is taught and researched. What is a Department? A Department houses a group of qualifications and programmes. Qualifications include National Diplomas as well as BCom, BA and BTech degrees. What are Undergraduate Studies? An undergraduate qualification is your first degree, National Diploma and BTech degree. What are Postgraduate studies? A postgraduate qualification follows your first degree, National Diploma and BTech degree leading to a Postgraduate Diploma, Honours, Master s and Doctoral degree. What is a degree? Degrees are traditionally offered at universities and consist of subjects from various fields, enabling you to tailor your studies to your own interest and career plans. This type of qualification can be followed by additional postgraduate studies in order to prepare you for a career in a specific field. What is a national diploma or a diploma? A National Diploma or Diploma is careerfocussed and directly linked to a specific career field. So, for example should you study a National Diploma in Retail Business Management you will have the option of becoming a Store Manager, Visual Merchandiser, Layout Specialist, Shopping Centre Manager, Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager, Retail Consultant or start your own business in your field of specialisation. With a National Diploma or Diploma you are required to do a period of Work Integrated Learning in industry at an accredited company where you will receive hands-on experience to add to your theoretical knowledge. What is a BTech Degree? A BTech degree is classified as a higher level of undergraduate studies following on a National Diploma. Campuses We offer our programmes on Auckland Park Kingsway Campus (APK), Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus (APB) and Soweto Campus (SWC). 26 How to determine your APS score: Points are awarded for the seven symbols on your Grade 11 or Grade 1 report according to the scale below. Example: School Marks APS First language (language of teaching and learning) 6% Other recognised language 71% 6 or 61% Life Orientation % * Accounting 68% History 81% 7 Geography 86% 7 Total 7 *Life Orientation must be divided by TWO to calculate the APS rating. A new Admission Point Score (APS) explained below has been developed for the NSC based on the Achievement Rating of each subject. The APS is basically the sum of the achievement ratings of the seven school subjects, keeping in mind that the performance rating achieved for Life Orientation must be divided by.
