2 The IV Future Leaders Programme: Empirics of Management will seek to train a cadre of first-class Spanish participants who will take the knowledge absorbed at LSE and impart that knowledge back in Spain, and thus helping to multiply the impact of their individual training and experience. The programme will not only provide excellent capacity building for the group of students but high-profile impact in helping young academics in Spain with the skills and intellectual frameworks needed to provide current and future leadership in academia. The programme itself will be a 4 day intensive course at LSE from Monday 4th to Friday 8th of September There is a maximum of 25 participants, all of whom will be selected by an academic committee consisting of LSE and the Fundación Rafael del Pino. Successful applicants will receive full funding for the course and accommodation in Grosvenor House for the duration of programme, and a Certificate of Achievement. They will also be part of a specific Rafael del Pino/LSE ex-alumnus group in Spain, and will as such be invited to reunions and special events hosted by both entities in Spain and given a chance to continue to engage with both institutions, and for LSE and the Fundación to keep in touch with the students as their careers develop. During 2007 he was also a visiting scholar at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He received his PhD and Master s, both in economics, from LSE and his BA in economics from the University of Valencia. His recent publications include a paper on Decision Making and Implementation in Teams with Marc Möller; Social Interactions and the Content of Legal Opinions with Clare Leaver in Journal of Law, Economics and Organization, 2013 and Revolving Door Lobbyists with Mirko Draca and Christian Fons-Rosen in American Economic Review, 2012.

4 Dr Daniel Beunza is Lecturer in Management within the Employment Relations and Organisational Behaviour Group. His research in sociology explores the ways in which social relations and technology shape financial value. His award-winning study of a derivatives trading room on a Wall Street bank traces the roots of extraordinary returns to the use of space and internal organization. He has also studied securities analysts and the 22 systemic risk posed by financial models. Professor Daniel Ferreira is PProfessor of Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also a fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and at the European Corporate Governance Institute. He is an expert in corporate governance and finance. His research articles have been published extensively in leading academic journals, such as The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Financial Economics, The Review of Financial Studies, The Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Review of Economic Studies, and The RAND Journal of Economics. He currently serves as Editor of the Journal of Empirical Finance and Associate Editor of Management Science. Professor Luis Garicano is Professor of Economics and Strategy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also Programme Director for the MSc Economics and Management programme. His research interests are focused on information technology and productivity, organisation of firms and organisational architecture as well as outsourcing and offshoring, wage inequality and hierarchies. He earned two bachelor s degrees, one in economics in 1990 and one in law in 1991, both from Universidad de Valladolid in Spain. He earned a master s degree in European economic studies from the College of Europe in Belgium in He then moved to the United States, where he earned a master s degree in economics in 1995 and a PhD in economics in 1998, both from the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1998, initially as Assistant Professor, progressing to Associate Professor in 2002 and full Professor in During his time at Chicago Booth he took leave to teach at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as London Business School. He joined LSE in 2007, initially as Director of Research in the Department of Management. He has also worked as an economist for the Commission of the European Union and has been involved in efforts to promote structural reforms in the Spanish economy. In particular he has co-authored proposals to reform the labour markets, housing markets, and the pension and health systems, as well as a recent study with McKinsey on the Growth perspectives for the Spanish economy. He also currently co-edits the most widely read economics blog in Spanish, NadaesGratis.es.

5 Dr Dirk Jenter is Associate Professor of Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before joining the LSE, he was an Associate Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Previously, Dr Jenter was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management where he taught corporate finance in both the MBA and executive education programs. He won the MIT Sloan Teacher of the Year Award in 2005, the MIT Sloan Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007, the Stanford MBA Distinguished Teaching Award in 2012, and the MIT Sloan Outstanding Teacher Award in Dr Jenter received his undergraduate education at the University of Frankfurt (Germany) and the University of Cambridge (UK), an M.Phil. degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Business Economics from Harvard University. Dr Jenter s research focuses on the interaction of managers and firms with capital markets, on corporate governance, and on the evaluation and compensation of top executives. Recent research projects have examined the capital structure decisions of U.S. firms, the role of equity compensation for executives and employees, insider trading, the role of institutional investors in M&A, and the effects of firm performance and the business cycle on CEO turnover and compensation. Professor John Sutton is the Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is part of the Suntory and Toyota International Centres for Economics and Related Disciplines (STICERD) at the LSE. He has been a Visiting Associate Professor at Tokyo University, a Marvin Bower Fellow at the Harvard Business School, and a Visiting Professor of Economics at Harvard University, and at the Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago. His books include Sunk Costs and Market Structure (MIT Press, 1981), Technology and Market Structure (MIT Press, 1998), Marshall s Tendencies: What Can Economists Know? (MIT and Leuven University Press, 2000) and Competing in Capabilities: The Globalization Process (Oxford University Press, 2012). He has been a consultant for the World Bank since 2000, and served on the Advisory Committee on Access to the Japanese Market (Tokyo) from 1995 to He served as a member of the Group of Economic Advisors to the President of the European Union from , and of the Enterprise Strategy Group (Ireland), which reported in He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and of the British Academy, and was President of the Royal Economic Society from 2004 to 2007.
