Graduates nw require intercultural cmpetencies and internatinal experiences t make them mre emplyable. USQ s Study Abrad and Exchange Prgrams enable yu t study at a freign university and receive credit fr these studies at USQ. USQ students As a student at USQ, yu have the pprtunity t travel and study verseas fr ne r tw semesters. At USQ, we challenge yu t see the wrld and study, by giving yu credit twards yur degree. There are many reasns why studying abrad is a great pprtunity: 1. The life experience gives yu a chance t becme mre cnfident, independent and flexible. 2. It increases the value f yur degree. Emplyers are generally impressed by resumes that include sme verseas study. It is evidence f independence, adaptability and willingness t take n a challenge. 3. Yu can learn mre abut yur area f study in a different cntext. 4. Yu can take classes in areas f study that are nt specialities f USQ. 5. We are living in a wrld increasingly characterised by interdependence. It is yur chance t becme a glbal citizen. 6. It is a great way t make new friends, travel the wrld and g n an adventureand d it while making prgress in yur degree! Am I eligible? T be eligible t apply fr the study abrad and exchange prgram yu must: have cmpleted at least ne year f full time academic study (i.e. cmpleted at least 8 curses). have at least 1 curse left t cmplete upn yur return t USQ. cmplete the USQ and hst university applicatin frms and attach all supprting dcumentatin meet all pre-requisites and ther curse requirements fr curses selected be in gd academic standing (verall GPA f 4.5 r abve) 1

2 It is recmmended that yu plan t participate in the Study Abrad r Exchange prgram during yur secnd year f study at USQ s that yu still have a range f curses t chse frm when making yur verseas study plan. Yu will need t seek credit fr the curses that yu study verseas when yu cme back t USQ s it s imprtant t chse electives in an area f interest r curses similar in cntent t thse in yur USQ degree. Study Abrad vs. Exchange Exchange Students The exchange prgram allws USQ students t study at a freign university fr a minimum f ne and a maximum f tw semesters. USQ students must participate in an verseas study experience with ne f ur Exchange Partner Universities t be eligible fr the USQ Exchange Prgram. Exchange students remain enrlled at USQ whilst attending the freign university Exchange students d nt receive an award frm their hst university Exchange students receive credit fr their USQ degree upn successful cmpletin f their studies at a freign university Exchange students pay tuitin fees t USQ - nt t the hst institutin Study Abrad Students The Study Abrad prgram allws USQ students t study at a freign institutin fr a minimum f ne and a maximum f tw semesters. These Educatin Partners teach a variety f USQ prgrams and prvide an n-campus experience fr Internatinal students based verseas. USQ has been wrking with sme f ur educatin partners t develp an pprtunity fr Australian dmestic undergraduate student t travel t ur partners fr the Partner Exchange Experience. If yu chse t undertake this Exchange prgram, yu will be enrlled with USQ externally (where yu will still have access t USQ s study desk); hwever yu will be attending yur tutrials n-campus in a different cuntry. 5 Fees and Funding Optins Yu will be required t research the csts invlved with participatin in the study abrad and exchange prgrams and determine yur wn budget accrdingly. This wuld invlve researching the csts f accmmdatin, flights, fd, travel expenses and health/travel insurance etc. t determine if yu have access t enugh mney fr the prgram. Exchange Csts As a USQ student participating in an verseas exchange, yu will be required t pay the fllwing: 1. Tuitin fees r student cntributin t USQ - n tuitin fees are paid t the hst University. (If yu are currently deferring yur payment t HECS-HELP, then yu can cntinue t d this) 2. Accmmdatin fees t the hst university (r directly t USQ if undertaking an ISEP exchange) 3. Overseas health and Travel insurance 4. Visa applicatin fees 5. All flights and apprpriate transprt 6. Persnal spending mney and ther assciate living csts Study Abrad Csts As a USQ student participating in a direct Study Abrad prgram, yu will be required t pay the fllwing: 1. Persnal spending mney and ther assciated living csts Funding Optins The Australian Gvernment has intrduced an initiative called the OS HELP Lan. This scheme prvides financial assistance t Australian students wishing t pursue studies verseas. Candidates may be eligible fr up t AUD6000 fr each semester studied abrad. This lan is added t yur HECS debt. USQ Internatinal Office ffers a Study Abrad Grant f up t AUD2000. Ask the Mbility Officer abut hw t apply. In additin t the OS HELP lan and USQ Internatinal Study Abrad Grant, individuals wh receive Yuth Allwance r ther schlarships may still be eligible t receive this mney whilst studying abrad. Other schlarships frm the Australian Gvernment may als be available. Please ask the USQ Mbility Officer fr mre details. 5

Please ask the USQ Student Mbility Officer fr mre infrmatin. Language Requirements If yu are studying in a cuntry where English is nt the language f instructin, yu may be required t shw prf f language prficiency. Fr example, if yu are studying subjects in Germany in the German language, yu will be required t sit a German language prficiency test. Hwever, mst f USQ s exchange partners ffer a variety f curses delivered in the English language. The USQ Mbility Officer will be able t prvide yu with mre infrmatin abut apprpriate language tests if required. Visa Requirements T study verseas, mst cuntries require a student t have a student visa. The Department f Freign Affairs and Trade prvide links t all freign embassies and cnsulates in Australia. Yu shuld cntact the relevant embassy r cnsulate t talk abut applying fr yur visa. The relevant embassy r cnsulate will als be able t tell yu whether r nt yu will be able t wrk in yur hst cuntry whilst n a student visa. Students planning n studying in the USA shuld nte that they will be required t attend an interview at the US Cnsulate in Sydney in rder t apply fr their student visa. Interviews need t be pre-bked thrugh the US Cnsulate in Sydney at the time f receiving an ffer letter fr the exchange prgram. 6
