3 About USB s PGD BMA The University of Stellenbosch Business School s Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration (PGD BMA) is offered in two streams: Generalist PGD BMA which can be applied in any industry (presented in Modular and Blended Learning formats) PGD BMA stream in Higher Education Management (HEM), which can be applied in tertiary institutions such as universities, colleges and departments of higher education and training, and any other organisations that support and develop higher education and the management thereof (presented in Blended Learning format). also has a number of other generalist modules and electives. The PGD BMA which focuses on Higher Education Management combines the core modules with stream-specific modules to provide a powerful combination of general management skills and higher education competencies. These streams do not denote separate postgraduate diplomas. All students will graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration from Stellenbosch University. This brochure focuses on the PGD BMA stream in Higher Education Management (HEM). Find general information on USB s PGD BMA at Most of the core modules of the two PGD BMA streams are the same. The generalist PGD BMA USB developing responsible managers and leaders The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) was one of the first business schools in South Africa, starting out with 14 MBA students in Today, the school has more than degree students from all over the world. USB was the first business school from an African university to have achieved the three major international accreditations AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. USB has significant programme depth. Our flagship degree is our MBA. We also offer postgraduate programmes in Development Finance, Futures Studies, Management Coaching, Leadership and other fields. Overall, we strive to develop responsible leaders through wellgrounded business education and research. USB forms part of Stellenbosch University the strongest research university in Africa. 4 PGD BMA stream in Higher Education Management Professionalise higher education The professionalisation of higher education management is widely recognised as a means to impact student and higher education success. This stream of USB s Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration equips middle and senior managers and practitioners with the knowledge and skills to professionalise higher education management particularly Student Affairs, Internationalisation, Institutional Planning and Enrolment, Academic Administration, Alumni and Advancement Marketing. The majority of the core modules of USB s generalist PGD BMA and its PGD BMA in Higher Education Management are the same. However, the PGD BMA in Higher Education Management has exchanged some of the generalist modules for stream-specific modules aimed at those who want to follow a career in the management in higher education and related organisations and institutions. This PGD BMA stream therefore combines generalist management skills and higher education competencies to equip participants to successfully engage with the contextual complexities within this sector across the globe. The PGD BMA in Higher Education Management is presented in the Blended Learning format which provides easy access to those from further afield and/or those who work full-time. Who should enrol?
