Deputy Director, MBM Programme I had never felt that I m the first batch of MBM at Shanker Dev Campus. I meant that there s a strong and resilient team of Campus administration and faculty members. They are very effective in giving you the entire set of ambience and facilities to enhance your capabilities. I admire the mentorship and career guidance of my teachers. During the studies, I had cordially involved along with campus administration in organizing MBM tour Ghorepani- Poonhill trek, accounting system training and welcome and interaction program. It s so much informative that the campus continuously organizes various seminars and guest lectures on relevant topics such as article reviews, synopsis writing and, leadership & HR issues. It also organizes sessions with intellectual and business professionals to provide glimpse of challenges and opportunities. I m so much grateful for memorable and fruitful two years of higher studies at Shanker Dev Campus. 4 SONAM DORJI, MBM (2014)

I take pleasure in expressing my view towards SDC where I spent two enriching years for my master level (MBM) study. The combination of experienced teachers and the quality education (with events and extra curricular activities) has established SDC in a different arena today. I am proud to be a part of Shanker Dev Campus. BIBAK SHRESTHA, MBM (2014) 5

Programme Message from the Prof. Prem Raj Pant, PhD The Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University took a timely initiative to launch the MBM program in some of its constituent campuses. This program has been designed in view of the changing human resource needs of the emerging sectors and sub-sectors of the Nepalese economy. Shanker Dev Campus, which has gained its reputation as a highly quality-rated educational institution in the country, has very successfully launched this program. Its qualified and experienced faculty members are consummate academicians and professionals who are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that all students are offered the opportunity to fulfill their potential both in and beyond the classroom. They are acutely aware of their obligations to prepare young talents to make their way as confident, responsible and productive contributors to a complex, ever-changing, and diverse world of business. I congratulate the Director, faculty members and administrative staff of the MBM program for their sincere efforts in successfully launching the MBM program in line with FOM s objectives and expectations. I express my good wishes that the college becomes a state of the art institution and the centre of excellence for business education. Prof. Pushkar Bajracharya, PhD Despite the unprecedented growth of management education in Nepal, there is still a pronounced dearth of human resources with specialized abilities meeting the growing needs of management professionals with specific capabilities and orientation. To meet this very felt gap and to create a niche, this programme, Master of Business Management, has been designed by the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University incorporating theoretical and practical nuances of management with sectoral focus. The course, we believe, captures the modern trend and will help the organizations and the nation to move forward. The course has enough potential and skills to equip the students with necessary armour to deal with the challenges of today and tomorrow and to build managers and leaders with vision and insight in the arena. Committed students along with dedication, faculty and the paraphernalia of Shanker Dev campus will, I believe, transform the students into designated human capital to fulfill the cherished vision. 6

Designers Prof. Kundan Dutta Koirala, PhD The Master of Business Management Program was designed and implemented three years ago with a view to expand the availability of professional management courses in Nepal. The program has been designed to prepare professional managers with sound theoretical base. Students enrolled in this course are expected to learn analytical and problem solving skills and also build their research capabilities. This is a very powerful course and capable of developing capable manpower for the business and non-business sectors, nationally and internationally. This program needs fulltime students and a core group of dedicated faculty members for its success. As one of the designers of the program I would like to welcome the new intake of MBM program at Shanker Dev Campus. Prof. Dev Raj Adhikari, PhD The Faculty of Management (FOM) of Tribhuvan University offers a variety of courses in general, functional and sectoral management areas from Bachelor to doctoral level. The courses are designed according to the need of the country and the international trends in management education. FOM is continuously involved in development and upgrading of its curricula, teaching methods, and examination system. Master of Business Management (MBM) is a typically designed mixture of theory and research-based universally accepted academic program currently run by Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University. This program aims to produce high-calibre business graduates with a solid foundation in understanding what business operation is about while developing the skills and awareness needed to be an entrepreneur. Since we have launched this program, the first batch of students is in the process of completion of the degree. MBM graduates have many prospects as starting their own business or joining any type of organization with full of courage and confidence or developing their career as independent researchers or consultants. They can add value by being competitive and innovative and leading organizations independently with their knowledge and skills. 7

The Campus Shanker Dev Campus (SDC), a leading constituent Campus of Tribhuvan University (TU), is one of the few campuses, which has been offering quality higher education in Management for the past many years. To its credit, SDC is probably the first choice for the general management education in Nepal, mainly due to its commitment to quality education for the future managers of Nepal. Not surprisingly, therefore it has received accolades either as the best or one of the best schools in management education including by some of the renowned business magazines of the country. It runs undergraduate and graduate courses in business and management for example Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Master of Business Studies (MBS). In addition, it also offers the degree of Master of Business Management (MBM), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Information Management (BIM) and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM). Over the period it has produced middle and manger level professionals required for the country. It has in addition, produced a number of politicians and administrators and some of them have reached the highest level of careers in their lives. It retains one of the best faculties available in the country quite dedicated to quality education in management. It carries the distinctive legacy as the pioneering Campus in Management education in Nepal. It is centrally and strategically located with sufficient premise and other facilities required for imparting quality education. 8

The Programme Shanker Dev Campus is among the first campuses to start Master of Business Management Programme. Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan Univerisity offers Master of Business Studies (MBS) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in core management area. Faculty of Management, TU, identified a gap to meet the growing need for skilled human resources required for the job market: Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), International Non-Governmental Organizations (IN- GOs), Entrepreneurship and Micro- Enterprise Management in Nepal, in particular. The job market skill needs management professionals due to growth in number and size. Keeping in mind the above issues, Faculty of Management, TU has introduced a graduate course with the sectoral perspective. In other words, MBM is inclined towards sectoral rather than general management. It is believed that the course will result in creating additional employment opportunities. MBM at Shanker Dev gave me the confidence and tools to venture out of my comfort zone and trust and test my skills and experience in the wider environment. I cherish each day of two priceless years that I have spent at Shanker Dev with the best of education, friends, faculty members and unforgettable memories. SAMINA SHRESTHA MBM (2014) Programme Features: Advanced business management degree Hybrid academic and practical orientation Commitment of highly experienced faculty Semester based student centered teaching-learning process Worldwide acceptability Affordable fee Expected Program Outcomes Learning professional management practice forms the backbone of the MBM program. Alongside a series of additional workshops, it develops the core business skills that graduates will need in their future careers. It instills into them a culture of learning, reflection and development through the program s curricular and co-curricular activities. The MBM program is specifically designed to provide business graduates of high-caliber with a solid foundation in understanding what business operation is about, while developing the skills and awareness needed to be the successful business leaders as managers and entrepreneurs. The program is also designed to provide students with an exciting and challenging learning experience. It gives them a broad understanding of management issues along with appropriate skills and techniques. The program aims at developing executives for the new and emerging business sectors in developing economies. The MBM graduates will be able to: Acquire the analytical, conceptual and practical tools necessary for managerial decision making Develop the range of skills necessary to operate successfully in a business environment, including analytical, technical, team working, presentation, report writing and communication skills Acquire applied knowledge through real work with assigned industry clients Engage in research and produce an in-depth analysis and evaluation of a business issue As an Engineering Graduate, acquiring skills and knowledge that are required to address business problems and managerial dilemmas of fast changing global environment through multi-disciplinary approaches was challenging. However, the continued exemplary support and mentoring of quality education from Shanker Dev Campus made it possible towards my goal of earning MBM degree. Today, I am confident that MBM at Shanker Dev is preparing me as a righteous and insightful innovative leader so that I could run my career in wider platform. ASHOK LAMICHHANE, MBM (2015) 9
