1 Graduate Business Certificate in Accounting This certificate will allow students to gain either general or specialized knowledge in accounting, to further their professional formation, and to work toward professional certification (CPA, CIA, CMA, etc.) or use their accounting knowledge to enhance their success in other related management roles. An in depth knowledge of accounting not only can lead to traditional jobs in the accounting field, but also could help the certificate holder function in corporate roles such as Controller or CFO. To facilitate this flexibility, we offer three tracks within the certificate, including general accounting, managerial accounting and decision making, or internal auditing. The Graduate Certificate in Accounting will provide the opportunity for the certificate holder to perform a wide variety of professional functions in the business community. I. 2 Graduate Business Certificate in Business Administration The graduate certificates in business are designed to allow working professionals to develop expertise and acquire a credential beyond their undergraduate degree. The certificate program allows students to: Specialize in new areas of business Update older information or degree Acquire added skills and credentials to increase their career opportunities The program allows a student, with guidance of a graduate programs coordinator, to choose a customized program of five to six graduate business classes from the graduate courses offered through the Albers School of Business and Economics. Certificates are awarded in the following areas of specialization: accounting, finance, sustainability, marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship, business analytics, global business, internal audit, quantitative economic analysis, business administration, leadership formation and healthcare management. Course work for the certificate may be applied to other advanced graduate degrees if enrolled in those degree programs prior to completion of the certificate program. I. Topics include relational database systems, multi-dimensional modeling, data warehousing, data mining, big data analytics, web analytics, and business intelligence. I. You will receive solid grounding in financial principles, accounting analysis, and economic analysis. You will be exposed to complex financial issues and will increase your analytical competence. Upon completion of the certificate, you can contemplate careers in financial analysis, capital budgeting, security analysis, corporate financial management, and small business finance. I. 7 Graduate Business Certificate in Global Business The Global Business Certificate provides an opportunity for advanced education in international business and global strategy. This certificate will allow students to gain an in-depth appreciation of the global economy and its impact on business. Topics include functional areas in economics, finance, marketing, management, strategy, law, and ethics; these will prepare graduates for positions of leadership in business, government, or other international organizations. 8 Graduate Business Certificate in Healthcare Management The Certificate in Healthcare Management is a graduate-level body of knowledge that can stand alone or be part of the Albers Professional MBA. It consists of 15 credits (2 required courses and 3 elective courses), offered by Albers School of Business & Economics and the College of Nursing. In light of the rapidly and significantly changing healthcare industry, including increased focus on legislation, metrics and cost management, more graduate business students and young healthcare professionals, including clinicians, will want to expand their skills and knowledge. You will receive practical, hands-on experience to work more effectively within your current company or to launch your own new venture by choosing one of two flexible areas of emphasis: Innovation or Entrepreneurship. They identify risks associated with achieving strategic goals and help the company mitigate those risks. In addition, internal auditors benchmark both internally and externally to implement best practices. The Internal Audit profession is experiencing a high demand for candidates coupled with a shortage of potential recruits. Our program includes an in-class internal audit practicum as well as highly recommended three month internal audit internships. 13 Graduate Business Certificate in Quantitative Economic Analysis The Certificate in Quantitative Economic Analysis is designed to develop skills in quantitative and economic analysis to produce professionals who can frame and analyze questions in business, and communicate findings to strengthen decision making. With vast quantities of data becoming more readily available, it is critical that business use the information contained in data to make better decisions. This not only requires the use of data management skills and statistical methods, but also the use of economic decision and business models to structure the data and questions being asked. You will receive practical, hands-on experience using current software and techniques, which will enable you to work more effectively within your current company or to launch you to your next venture.
