2 Objectives : The Workshop and Conference proposes to address the emerging domain on development and applications of Statistics in current areas of Science & Technology by bringing together on a common platform experts from the academic institutions and industries to deliberate on a wide spectrum of issues. The focus will be to discuss the development and use of Statistical Techniques in emerging areas of Science and Technology. The Conference would serve as a platform to young researchers and professionals working in these domains to take stock of trends and development in Statistics. Besides, it will help in sharing of experience and exchange of ideas, which will foster National and International collaboration. 4 th About the University of Jammu: The University of Jammu came into being on 5 Sept., At present, the main campus of the University is spread over an area of acres with beautiful lush green lawns, tree lined lanes, a unique cactus garden, a botanical garden and a splendid fountain plaza. The University offers a number of academic programmes like Post-Graduate Degrees, M. Phil, Ph.D., P.G. Diplomas, and Certificate Courses through its various teaching departments, Centres, DDE. The University of Jammu is seriously and vigorously pursuing its core objectives of imparting quality education and carrying out research in order to become a globally recognized institution of rigorous academic research and teaching that can compete with the best institutions, nationally and internationally. About Jammu: Jammu, a great vibrant hub of learning, located on the bank of river Tawi. Set against the backdrop of the snowcapped Pir Panjal range, Jammu marks the transition between the Himalayas in the North and the dusty plains of the Punjab in the Prof. C.R. Rao being facilitated by Hon ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Varun Sahni South, bridging these two extremities by series of scrub covered hills, forested mountain ranges and deep river valleys. The southernmost unit of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu region is traversed by the Shivalik hills and quenched by the river Ravi, Tawi and Chenab. Jammu, the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir is also known as the city of Temples. Jammu is known for its forts and palaces. The majestic Bahu Fort situated on the banks of Tawi is believed to be nearly 3000 years old. Site Seeing/Pilgrimage Prof. C.R. Rao on his visit to University of Jammu Katra (48km from Jammu): Is a major tourist hub in Jammu and serves the base camp for pilgrimage to Mata Vaishnodevi. The Shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi is the most hallowed Hindu pilgrimage of Northern India and attracted by over millions of devotees each year. Patnitop (100 Km from Jammu): By far the most popular of Jammu's hill resorts, Patnitop (2024 meters) is perched on a beautiful plateau across which the Jammu-Srinagar highway passes. It comprises several meadows enveloped by thick forests of Deodar (Cedar) and Kail (Blue Pine) trees, and affords peaceful walks amidst conifer groves, beautiful spots for enjoyable picnics and breath taking views of the Chenab basin and the Pir Panjal range beyond. For solace one can visit the beautifully located Nag Mandir at Karlah village. Other activities include horse rides and short treks into the surrounding hills. Patnitop also draws a lot of tourists when it snows during winters (January-February). The meadows with their gentle slopes are ideal for skiing and sledging. Skiing courses for beginners are conducted here.

5 The Valley of Kashmir(300 Km from Jammu): It is a longitudinal depression in the great north-western Himalayan range, situated at an altitude of 1590 mtrs (5209) feet having latitude between 23-4' and 37-6 'North and longitude between 72-31' and 77-30' East. A typical oval shaped valley, its length has a parallel axis to the general direction of the bordering mountains The Shivaliks, The Middle Mountains, The Pir Panjal, The Himalayas, The Zanaskar, The Ladakh and The Korakaram. Srinagar: Srinagar is located in the heart of the Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1,730 m (1530 feet) above sea level, spread on both sides of the river Jhelum. The Dal and Nagin lakes enhance its picturesque setting, while the changing play of the seasons and the salubrious climate ensures that the city is equally attractive to visitors around the year. It is well connected by road and air. Golden Temple in Amritsar (200 Km from Jammu): Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple, (on account of its scenic beauty and golden coating for English speaking world), is named after Hari(God) the temple of God. The Sikhs all over the world, daily wish to pay visit to Sri Amritsar and to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in their Ardas.Well connected by road/rail from Jammu. How to Reach Jammu: Jammu is well connected by Air, Rail and Road to all major cities within India. By Air: Jammu Airport is situated about 4 km from University of Jammu and regular direct/connecting domestic flights are operated from here to New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ranchi, Bangalore etc. Pre-paid taxies are available at the Airport. By Rail: Jammu is well connected with the rest of India by an extensive network of Rails. The Railway Station Jammu Tawi is about 2.5 km from the University of Jammu. By Road: Jammu City is connected with Highway NH1 going from Srinagar to New Delhi. Several Private/Public Transport Services are available to/from all major Cities of India. Note: The Delegates/Participants may be picked up on request basis. Accommodation: The accommodation will be arranged in the nearby Guest Houses/Hotels as per the requirements and availability. Group Pick up and Drop facility will be available from/to such places to/from the venue. However, those who are willing to stay in other hotels in the city, can request the Convener of the Conference by making advance payment. Climate: The weather is generally pleasant during early December. The temperature ranges between 6 to 20 degree Celsius.

Abstract Format: Please observe the following guidelines while submitting the abstract of the research paper: Title: Limited to 200 characters in length. Use initial caps in the title; do not use all caps. Authors(s): Type all authors names with initial caps. Include affiliations for all authors using tags if necessary. Address: Indicate contact/presenting author's name(s) and mailing address including addresses. Abstract Body: The abstract should by typed with one and half line spacing, 12 font size in Times New Roman format not exceeding 200 words. Deadline for Submission of Abstract: September, 30, 2010.
