1 Beaconsfield Primary School Beaconsfield Road, Southall, UB1 1DR Tel: Fax: Headteacher: Mr Dave Woods 1 to 1 SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT POST (TEMPORARY (till 17 th July 2012 linked to pupil SEN Statement) Scale 5, Point hours per week during term time only plus INSET days (Required ASAP) We are seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic teaching assistant to support an individual pupil with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) within a mainstream classroom and to support other pupils with ASD for periods of class integration. You will ideally have had previous experience in supporting and working 1 to 1 with pupils with ASD or ADHD. Your work will be supported and guided by the SENCo and our ARP (Additional Resource Provision) Leader at all times. Beaconsfield Primary School is a well-resourced, inclusive one form entry school that offers a very supportive environment to staff and pupils. This post is to work within the mainstream classes of the school as a 1 to 1 support worker for identified pupils who have a statement of special educational needs. We are looking for dynamic, inspirational staff members who have: a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent in an aspect of child care/ education proven/ recent experience of working with pupils within a school learning environment who have Speech and Language difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) excellent numeracy and literacy skills (Equivalent to GCSE Grade A-C) (tested at interview) some knowledge of and skills in using specialist communication systems e.g. Makaton, PECs an understanding of P-Levels, national curriculum (NC) levels of attainment and IEP s (Individual Education Plans) a commitment and passion for inclusive education along with a patient, flexible and positive manner And a staff member who is able to: work closely with our SENCo, ARP leader and other SEN staff as part of a team communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as being ICT literate consistently implement agreed pupil behavior programs and contribute to team strategy discussions and reviews follow differentiated planning, other specialist programmes and individual plans with patience and calmness to ensure pupils are fully participating in activities and sessions. build and maintain effective relationships with pupils, treating them with respect and consideration Beaconsfield Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and you will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure from the CRB. 2 9 th January 2012 Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the 1 to 1 SEN Teaching Assistant post at Beaconsfield Primary School. This position offers an exciting, challenging opportunity for a committed person to join our dedicated and hard-working staff team. You will be working as a 1 to 1 support worker for up to 20 hours each week supporting a boy in Year 5 who has an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). You will work under the direction of our very experienced Inclusion Leader and you will have the support of our SEN specialist teachers. The work will be challenging, but also very rewarding. In addition to the 1 to 1 support work you will work for some of the time with our ARP (Additional Resource Provision) classes to support other KS1 and KS2 pupils with integration sessions into mainstream classes. Our ARP classes cater for pupils who have a range of ASD and Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties. These pupils work primarily in small classes of up to 8 pupils for large parts of the week, but they do also integrate into mainstream classes for parts of each week. It is these integration sessions that you will support. This work will be varied and interesting allowing you to develop a wide understanding of inclusion across KS1 and KS2 classes. I do hope that you will take the time to read all the enclosed documents carefully and that when you complete your application you ensure that you give recent and relevant examples of your skills and experiences related to the person specification including the details of your NVQ qualifications (or equivalent). To provide general support to the class teacher in the management and organisation of pupil(s) with special educational needs in the classroom. To assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment. To promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop. To work mainly in the specified class with the assigned pupil, but to accompany other children during inclusion sessions in other classes To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school. 4 7. To provide support in the delivery of the Primary Strategies and National Curriculum as appropriate. Support for the teacher 8. To work closely with the SENCo/ class teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all areas of the curriculum 9. To work under supervision of the class teacher to support the learning, social, emotional and physical development of the pupils 10. As required, to prepare the classroom/outside areas for lessons, ensuring that specialist resources and equipment are available as necessary and cleared away at the end of the lessons as appropriate Support for the school 11. To comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, SEN/Inclusion and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate named person. 12. To liaise with parents/ carers or agencies involved in supporting development of special educational needs pupils. 13.
