NEGOTIATED SALARY SCHEDULE SPECIAL SERVICES DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES, SITE ADMINISTRATOR, AND ASSIGNED ASHA CERTIFIED SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST NON-EXEMPT QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: The S.L.P.A. must hold an Associates Degree as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant and must hold a current license awarded by the Oklahoma Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (OBESPA). OR, Must hold a Bachelor Degree in Speech Therapy and must hold a current certificate issued of the Oklahoma State Department of Education. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. SUPERVISES: Under the Supervision of an ASHA Certified Speech Language Pathologist, the S.L.P.A. will supervise students. JOB GOAL(S): The S.L.P.A. is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring educationally relevant therapeutic activities to students with disabilities as outlined in their Individual Education Plan and under limited supervision of an ASHA Certified Speech Language Pathologist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides direct and indirect therapy to students with disabilities under the supervision of an ASHA Certified Speech Language Pathologist: Assist with Speech-Language and Hearing Screenings (without interpretation) Assist the speech-language pathologist during assessment of students Maintains appropriate speech therapy records (documentation, schedules, daily plans, progress notes, etc.) developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist Communicates with educational and related services staff, parents, speech pathologists, and other professionals concerned with the student s educational progress.
4 Assist the team in determining assistive technology/augmentative communication device needs and maintenance of equipment Provides training and demonstrations to appropriate persons for maintenance of assistive technology/augmentative communication devices, appropriate exercises and activities, proper body mechanics of the student with disabilities in order to carryover therapy goals in the school setting. Consults with appropriate persons in activities of daily living such as feeding, positioning, feeding, social skills, etc. Participates/promotes the overall effectiveness of the District by sharing responsibilities of other members of the department during peak periods, helping with overload of duties, filling in when others are away from work station, etc. Attends Special Services meetings, staffings and other school meetings when appropriate. Participates in professional meetings, in services, and workshops related to the best practices in education and of speech language pathology in schools. Actively supports the District s goals and will implement any activities associated directly or indirectly with the Special Services Department. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
