1 LMD 101 Winter 2014 Page 1 RTI COURSE SYLLABUS LIFE & MINISTRY DEVELOPMENT 101 WINTER 2014 Life & Ministry Development assessments and inventories help each student understand their unique design by God, and maximize learning and development through RTI courses, projects, and practicums. General Course Information: Winter Term Academic Credit Cohort Meeting Days, Time, & Location Tuesday, 4:30 6:00 pm, BC 302 Cohort Dates January 7 to April RTI Faculty Condello, Dangaran, Fowler Course Information info@rti.org REACH TRAINING INSTITUTE Course Description: Life & Ministry Development 101 is focused on the SIMA Motivated Abilities Pattern and a series of assessments formed by Antioch School faculty. SIMA Professional Coaches guide students through a time of deep personal reflection and self-discovery, giving students insight into their God-given vocational potential and capacity based on what they have historically been good at and been motivated to accomplish. Additionally, students will write a Personal Development Plan in consultation with instructors and mentors that will guide them through their RTI experience. Course Goals & Outcomes: Life & Ministry Development 101 is a foundational course that challenges students in their ability to articulate God s call in their lives, in verbal and written forms. RTI students are encouraged to wrestle with their personal histories, experiences, giftedness, and motivated abilities in a supportive environment designed to confirm the call to long-term, career ministry.

2 LMD 101 Winter 2014 Page 2 Goals & Outcomes: As a result of this course students will: Gain a deeper understanding of their giftedness and preparation for ministry Be able to clearly articulate God s calling to church leadership and/or career missions Write a Personal Development Plan based on a series of personal assessments and inventories that guides their RTI educational journey and ministry training Reading Lists & Materials (Subject to change throughout term): SIMA Map Personal Development Plan Antioch s Bible: NLT is translation typically referred to in RTI settings unless otherwise stated. Course Policies: Student Integrity: Our expectation of all RTI students is that highest standards of integrity would be applied to academics, inter-personal relationships, ministry practicums, and all learning environments. Honesty is the hallmark of true personal integrity. Academically, a student s work is evaluated on the assumption that the work presented is their own and free of any form of cheating or fabrication. Grading Paradigm: Antioch School faculty award academic credit for evidence of competencies as attested to by RTI instructors, mentors, ministry supervisors, and Certified Leaders. No distinctions are made regarding percentages and letter grades (which are precise and quantifiable, but are not necessarily accurate reflections of a student s ability, effort, skill, or competency in a given area. For those who plan to submit an academic transcript to a graduate program in the future, Antioch transcripts may be expressed in the letter grade of B for each competency and/or course completed. Course Engagement: Students are expected to be fully present and engaged in course content and inter-personal relationships within the cohort model. Simply showing up to at the appointed hour is not sufficient. Being fully prepared and ready to participate in weekly topics, discussion, and activities is the baseline expectation of all RTI students. Review You will be formed into various groups throughout the term to read and review each other s work. You will be expected to give feedback both verbally and in written form to each other s assessments, development plans, and ministry strategies Guidelines for written work: All written work will be evaluated by the rubric shown below. RTI follows the writing format prescribed in the American Psychological Association (APA) 6 th Edition Publication Manual generally used for education, psychology, and other social sciences.

3 LMD 101 Winter 2014 Page 3 RTI Writing Rubric: Scale Organization Detail Content Mechanics Excellent Clearly states ideas. Clear focus in direction. Draws Reader into context. Specific examples provided. Details are consistent with theme. Content has a balanced and natural flow of thoughts and ideas. One or two minor No major Good use of Good States ideas. Focus is well directed. Reader is not encumbered by context. Examples are adequate. Details generally align with examples. Content has balance of one or two consistent thoughts. A few minor No more than one major error. Good use of Fair Main ideas are stated and may not be clear. Focus strays at times. Reader is sometimes encumbered by context. Few examples given to support text. Details are provided but are unclear. Content is rough but maintains some focus. Some minor and some major Some errors cause reader confusion. Adequate use of Poor Main ideas are unclear and vague. Strays often and does not stay focused. Reader is confused by content. Few if any examples are given. Details are clumsy and hard to understand. Content lacks focus and points are not fully developed. Many major Errors cause consistent confusion. Poor use of
